Today is National Skip the Straw Day!

Did you know in Australia it is estimated we use 10 Million straws every single day!!

There is one pretty amazing young Aussie school girl, Molly Steer who is on a mission to encourage every school in Australia to stop using single-use plastic straws in their school tuckshops and canteens.

While standing in the aisles of Spotlight one spring morning I couldn't help but watch with intrigue as an enthusiastic Mum filled her basket with everything she needed for her daughter's birthday party. As she threw in packs of disposable pink plates, pink cups, pink spoons, pink bowls, some streamers, balloons and a roll of plastic table cloth, I couldn't help but think, that everything in her basket would be in the rubbish before the week was out. And that it would remain in landfill on this planet for a long, long time.
Then it hit me. I looked down the aisles and realised that everything for sale was designed to be used once for a couple of hours and then thrown in the bin.
I knew then I had to do something, so Zero Waste Celebrations was born.

Today is make a gift day and with Christmas fast approaching why not slow down, connect with your children and make a gift for a loved one.

I have always been a huge fan of making gifts. In my first year of motherhood whilst learning to live on one income I made ALL my christmas presents. 10 years on and even though many of them are looking worse for wear I still see them in my families homes, The patchwork blanket I made for Mum with scraps of fabric she had in a cupboard collecting dust or the owl doorstop I made for my sister.
