Heads up, for anyone keen to be part of the inaugural Tas Bike Collective Cycle Challenge - entries close tonight!

If a fun, low pressure and family friendly relay to help out an awesome cause sounds like a good plan, jump on board. Solos, pairs and teams of up to 5, all welcome!

We think at $15 per junior and $30 per adult it's one of the best value events on the calendar.

With now over $3k in spot prizes, Fairbrother little tackers races, bike demos and a retro bike show and shine, it should be hoot of day.

Event date: Saturday April the 6th. Venue Baskerville Raceway, Old Beach, Tas

We will ensure you have food and caffeine, and any help will be appreciated by the team.

The event is Saturday the 6th of April at Baskerville Raceway.
Also, anyone available on Friday the 5th, while we set up would be also greatly appreciated.
Full event details can be found here.

Sarah Kennedy (out of event timing retirement) and Rick Inglis from the Hobart Wheelers / Dirt Devils Cycling Club getting the timing database ready for the Tasmanian Bike Collective Cycle Challenge. It's been great to see the club grow, and we really appreciate the help with the Bike Collective event coming up in a few weeks.

Thanks Rick and Sarah :)

I work at the Bike Collective, It's an amazing organisation, we use bicycle workshops to mentor and support 80 young people to re-engage with education, develop fundamental work skills and improve mental and physical health.
Many of these young people come to the Bike Collective because they are facing significant life and learning challenges.

For me seeing kids struggle in school-based learning start to thrive in our programs and see that they have lots to offer is very rewarding.

I was that kid, I was told that because I struggled at school, I would never be able work or achieve anything of any meaning with my life. Thankfully after I left school others believed in me more than my teachers, and my life is now very different from what was forecast. So, I value the what the Bike Collective does because of how important it is for the young people that rock up every week.

I know it’s a bit of a haul for some people out there at moment with increased cost of living pressures, so this share has no expectation or pressure, but if you can help any contribution will mean a lot for the young people in the program.
The Bike Collective needs support to manage a short-term funding shortfall, caused by rising costs. If, like me, you believe young people should be given the opportunity to thrive, and you have the capacity to make a contribution, please make a one-off donation, it will make a huge difference directly benefiting young people in Tasmania.

The The Devil's Cardigan is back on and entries are open

I'm up for a lash who's in?

My goal is to collect 0 UCI points. Dream and anything* is possible.

*Maybe four things are possible

Seriously though this crew are doing great things, including supporting the Tasmanian Bike Collective.

For riders who sign up to the Tas Bike collective fundraiser there will be a prize draw that anyone who raises over $200 goes into.

Can anyone guess what it is?

I will give you hint; it involves wood, glass and fabric. 🤔

GO TIME

Your favourite winter gravel race is back and is proud to host the Gravel National Championships for a second year in a row!

As an Event Manager I’ve missed events, quite simply it’s the people. One of the things about the events we used to run as private promoters that we loved, was creating events where families could get together have fun and just have a great day out. I also felt like when we ran events there wasn’t much in the landscape for people who weren’t ready for full blown 6/24-hour, stage race, multi-sport, GE etc. The Tas Bike Collective Cycle Challenge ticks those boxes. For these reasons I’m excited to be coordinating this new event as part of my role with the Tasmanian Bike Collective

Entries are now open, if a family friendly, fun, and festive cycle relay sounds like a good time, we’d love to have you on board. It’s a challenge to do as many laps as you can, not a race and it’s aimed at making people new to events to feel welcome too. The Tas Bike Collective supports young Tasmanians in life changing ways.

It’s a leave the Strava at home grab the family and or mates and just enjoy the challenge type of gig.

Nice to see some of the trails get a workout at the State Champs.
Well done to the Hobart Wheelers / Dirt Devils Cycling Club for putting on a great day by all accounts.

A heads up for Tassie locals although Sarah and I have hung up the event management boots I'm helping out the Tasmanian Bike Collective run a family friendly participation event. For those who want to leave the Strava at home and get some new crew or family members into event vibes it will be a fun day out and you will be part of helping the Tasmanian Bike Collective continue their awesome work. Save the date April the 6th 2024 and get mates and (or) family (can be both, I sometimes like some of my family) together for something new.

Stay tuned.

Hi Crew,
Whilst Sarah and I are having a hiatus/retirement from running events, I wanted to share this event: The Devil's Cardigan team are holding the National Gravel Champs up at Derby, They have teamed up with the Tasmanian Bike Collective as a charity partner, to help raise funds and awareness. If you are signed up for the race it's not too late to jump on the fundraising page, or if you aren't racing you can sponsor a rider who is already signed up. This one is pretty close to my heart, as I am a Program Manager at the Tas Bike Collective at Clarendon Vale and I see every day how kids who struggle in a conventional educational environment grow into their potential with the right support. Any contribution is meaningful and makes a real difference on the ground.

The Tas Bike Collective team are heading up to support the event and personally I'm looking forward to catching up with crew up there and watching our CEO Anthony Edler test his severe tapering program on race day.......

8 brave souls are attempting to complete either a 52km or 106km race to raise money for the Bike Collective at this year’s Devil’s Cardigan.

Happening on the 24th of June in the middle of Tassie's winter!

It could get pretty cold, wet and muddy!

Get behind their efforts and donate to the team or an individual rider here 👇

Don’t be fooled by how nice it looks in the photo, that was 2 degrees on a very cold Sunday morning as the crew put in some training kms.

we are sharing this as Beardy has a big fight ahead of him, it's a situation we know well and the financial impact on Sarah and I of a similar injury was significant. beardy is a freelancer so the impact on him will be tough and at a time when things were very tight for us he supported us with heavily discounted services to help us promote our events, we didn't ask he offered, we love Beardy and if you can please show this generous cat some love. Storm Bay Events - Announcement

Sarah and I have sadly made the decision to retire from running events. It has been a tough decision and not taken lightly as we have loved so much of running MTB events, for us though, it’s the right time. Much of the motivation to wind up is due to wellbeing and quality of life for us - we have always had day jobs that have high levels of personal demand, and we miss our friends, family and riding our bikes 😊. COVID certainly had an impact too, and although that is becoming easier to manage, the economic impacts will be long lasting, and the rising costs mean we have decided that we need a break.

We would like to thank all our event crew, the trail crew and sponsors over the last 16 years for everything you have contributed through many ups and downs. Your support of us, and passion for delivering people good times, can’t be put into words, other than we are extremely grateful. (crew past and present, keep your eyes out for a spring time celebration and thank you gathering)

To the riders who have supported our events - you cats have made them what they are. To sell out local events during a pandemic showed us a lot of love, to the people who came from all over the country and the globe to race here and share their stories over the years, it has been a blast meeting you all.

We leave this space knowing so many positive experiences have happened for people who have been at our events, 6, 8, 12, 24 hr events and stage races like Hellfire and the Lumberjack. Our passion has always been for providing a unique and vibrant atmosphere, promoting Tasmania as a destination and supporting people to take on challenges.

We have helped community organisations raise 10s of thousands of dollars and are very proud of our event team’s contribution.

It was nice to finish up on high with a perfect weekend at the Tas Bike Collective 6/12/24 hour back in April, and as we started back in 2007 with 24 hour, it seems fitting to have finished with one.

If I tried to list everyone over the years who have contributed, We would fail, as there have been so many - there have been hundreds of volunteers and staff who are just the most amazing people. But I will mention a few to give special thanks to some key team members. To the land Managers Bernard and Mariah Wooley who opened up the property to riders back in 2007 (RIP Bernard who I still think about every time I enter the gate) and to today’s custodians, Dave and Jacqui Mason, - Dave and the Mtn Trails crew have given up so much time and support so racing could continue at Kellevie. Sam Jeanneret from Jettech who has sponsored every single event we have ever put on and been a critical event team member. Our Site manager Simon Edwards, if we needed it he made it, if we broke it he fixed it, and it didn’t matter what the problem was, there was always a solution. To Ben Stokes our Course Director and team manager and huge contributor to trail builds and course planning and marking. To Coops (Bill Cooper) who has been beverage manager, timing support, lead marshal, trail builder and about 12 other things, usually without notice and always without fuss. Everyone in a small events team does far more than it says in the PD. We will miss dealing with challenges with this crew and all the other mad crew over the years. Everyone who has contributed to the trails over the last 16 years should also be mentioned as they always ensured we had something fresh to offer. Every single cm of trail at our events was built by donated time and resources.

Events contribute a lot to the community economically and socially and we look forward to continuing our contribution by strapping on a number plate. The thing about riding and events that we have loved the most is the people we have connected with, it’s now time to honour those connections and spend time with the people we dig.

See you on the trails
Much love Duncan, Sarah and the Crew at Storm Bay Promotions

Tasmanian Bike Collective 6/12/24 Hour Wrap Up
Well we were glad we made the call to reschedule, what perfect weather last weekend 😊 compared to the horror show weather and flooding back in October – we were stoked that the rain held off till after the race finished and with around 200 riders turning up to the start line it was always going to be a fun weekend! Even with COVID thinning out 30% of registered riders it was still a fun filled weekend.

Firstly Props
Big thanks to all the riders who rode in the event and kept the vibe friendly and fun. Big props to the Queen and King of Kellevie for 2022 Emma Flukes (23 laps) and Jim Avens (36 laps) for taking out the 24 solo titles. And props to anyone who just got in and challenged themselves, set personal goals, or just enjoyed cutting laps with friends. For the full glory list head here https://my.raceresult.com/178384/

Props to the Trail fairies! We have had great feedback on the course so the volunteer trail team and MTN Trails need to be mentioned for all their hard work. We are one of the only event teams that independently fund, build and maintain trials for these events so the volunteer and Mtn Trails contributions are huge
Big props to the sponsors and supporters
Mtn Trails, Jeanneret Electrical Technologies, Rok Electrical, Kellevie Mountain Bike Park, My Ride, Ride Bellerive, Trail Culture, Fist, Tack-X, Roll Cycles, The Bike Van, Vertigo, Maydena Bike Park, Together Church, Borys Zagrocki - Extreme Bicycle Stunts

Thanks as always to Dave Mason and the team at Mtn Trails for the use of the land.

A massive thanks also to all the volunteers who donated their time before, during, and after the event – the event could not happen without you and with all the challenges that the current COVID outbreak caused, special thanks to those who stepped up even more to cover slots - some big hours for the team to get it done.

Props to the all the riders who fundraised for the Tasmanian Bike Collective and those who supported them with $20,312 being raised so far to help the Bike Collective continue to help make a huge difference to young peoples lives. You can still help as donations don’t close till the 24th of April so jump on if you can.
Head here to lend your support The Bike Collective 6/12/24 https://www.mycause.com.au/events/bikecollective24

What’s next?
Well, we want to just be a bit real here, managing MTB events over the past 16 years on top of our day jobs has often thrown up some challenges, but with a great team, and love of what we do, we have always found a way and enjoyed it. But the last few COVID years has made an exceptionally challenging environment with a reschedule and cancellation of the bigger stage-based event, The Lumberjack, we need to consider how we move forward. Even the events that we could run have had extra layers of management and stress. We would love see things continue and we love the new partnership with the Bike Collective, seeing such great community and fundraising outcomes from the events is motivating. But we need to reflect on what we do next, so we are going to chat to the team, our partners and sponsors, and work out how we move forward. So at this stage we don’t know but will let everyone know when we do. A small business where we do everything ourselves, or with the help of volunteers, including managing and building trails, means with work and life stuff it can leave us with not much in reserve. We aren’t whinging, we love what we do and what we have done over the years and we have had amazing support from riders but we just need to look at how we do things. So the short answer is we are not sure at the moment but will let people know once we do.

But first it’s a bit of break for us, ride some bikes, catch up with family and friends, and make some decisions with rested heads.

One of the positives of this is we hope to see you on the trails 😊

So thank you for being part of the event - we loved having you there and if you can, please support the Bike Collective.

Happy trails and much love
Duncan and Sarah and the Storm Bay Promotions event Team

We are having a huge MTB shindig to raise some money for an excellent cause and have an awesome time while doing it.

Big thanks to Sam Jeanneret from Jettech who despite being unable to get to the 6/12/24 hour due to having to isolate, sent his crafty lads down to get race village power and Wi-Fi sorted

Sam has supported us since the very begging at the first ever 24 hour and so his presence will be missed

For competitors over the weekend you can use your WIFI to access the race network

Thanks Sam and Jettech

Message from Tas Bike collective head Honcho Ant Edler who sadly has had to go into Iso :{
"An update from Ant (Tas Bike Collective Director)
Current health and safety protocols have meant I am going to miss the event (yep – I am having to isolate).
But when life gives you lemons, make lemonade….
So to honour the donations I’ve received and to ride in solidarity with those suffering at the event I am committing to my own suffering, in the shed, on the indoor trainer.
I’m going to attempt the longest course possible on Zwift, the “Uber Pretzel” which is 128km long with 2381m of climbing.
I wish all the riders a great event and thank everyone for their support in making this happen. "

We are really bummed Ant can't make it on the weekend, but like the champion he is he is still getting it done.

Cheers
Ant

Updated competitor info for the Tasmanian Bike Collective 6/12/24

Hi Riders!
Well it’s been a bit a of journey to get here but we are so looking forward to this weekend, forecast looks great with perfect Sat, Sat night, and Sunday morning, with maybe 2mm to 6mm late in the day Sunday forecast for after the racing is done 😊

The trails are in awesome condition and feedback is that this is our best course yet, there is lots of new stuff and old favourites mixed in. It’s prime! It’s 9.15 ks long with 168m of elevation per lap – Please see attached image elevation and profile.

The updated competitor info is here https://www.k24hr.com/about-the-24-hour
to help you, and some key bits to really read and not skip over are these:

1. All of it
2. Anything you missed when you read all of it
3. The words in between the first word and the last word

IMPORTANT! Please forward to your team members, we only have the emails supplied by you at entry, so if there was a typo or you just used your email they won’t get it unless you forward it to them.

Food and Coffee
OK peeps, COVID is wreaking havoc with small businesses, so after multiple vendors cancelling due to getting COVID, or being elsewhere booked due to the demand and not enough vendors, we can’t currently guarantee a vendor on site, we are working flat out to find someone to replace our original booking and backups, but so far it’s been no dice. This means, just like the first ever 24 hour back in 2007, you might need to be a bit more prepped and be self-sufficient for coffee and food. We will make a call on it on Thursday so people know for sure so they can plan - stay tuned, we will announce on our social media page and race website if we can lock someone in.

Tasmanian Bike Collective fundraising
The Riders raising money for the Tasmanian Bike Collective have done an outstanding job! If you support them or want to sign up head here https://www.mycause.com.au/events/bikecollective24

Start list is here https://my.raceresult.com/178384/ so you can see who you are duking it out with in the nicest friendliest of rivalries of course.

As always we want to thank you for being part of the event, and to the team of outstanding volunteers and sponsors who bring these events all together. On a personal note it’s been pretty up and down throughout the last year or two but what has kept us motivated has been the enjoyment people have at our events and being part of something special like helping the Tasmanian Bike Collective with their fundraising so they can improve outcomes for young people.

See you on the weekend!

Duncan, Sarah, the Storm Bay Promo Crew and the Tas Bike Collective Crew
