✨Closed for business until further notice ✨

I have had to make the really difficult decision to stop taking bookings for Gray Lane Event Design.

It's not unheard of for wedding vendors to reach burnout in their business at some point, for me unfortunately my body is failing! I got some not so great news from the doctor about a month ago about my lower back.

I am only 23 and the diagnosis definitely does not reflect that. I can't ignore it and I need to prioritise my health.

A little snippet of the diagnosis included:
◾️2 slipped discs that are close to a nerve root
◾️A recently healed stress fracture in my spine
◾️And a section of osteoarthritis

I am so thankful to all the amazing couples that have entrusted me with their planning and florals over the last 4 years!

I still have some amazing weddings for the rest of the year to work on with my current couples and I cannot wait! I will just be taking it a little easier and not being so stubborn 🙈

Have Fun on Your Wedding Day 💃

Naomi & Michael are such a sweet couple and they sure do know how to have fun 🙌

Their wedding was the first time I ever had to hand out bubble guns to the guest during the ceremony! (Awesome idea for no confetti venue 😍)

They also had a champagne tower instead of a cake cut! Which I love because I adore it when my couples break tradition 💁

Make a Statement 😍

I love a great hanging install! It can really elevate the room and make the area a focal point 🙌

For sit-down weddings, I recommend making the head table a statement and making guest tables more reserved. This ensures you and your partner will be the focus!

You also don't want to clutter guest tables because they really do need to function. Your guest will need space to eat, there is nothing worse than not being able to move because everyone is packed really tight 🙈 Drink will be abandoned and scattered on the tables so keeping the florals to a minimum is a great idea.

✨ Elevate ✨

If you want to lift your tablescapes to look that little bit extra, I always recommend adding a coloured napkin, nicer cutlery, or both! 🙌

Simply adding a nice napkin that matches the wedding party outfits, or your floral palette is such an easy way to add interest to the table 😍

Bouquet Breakdown 💐

I love to be really transparent with my clients about where the flowers for their wedding are coming from! 🌍

Although I try my hardest to buy local flowers, it's not always possible for a style or colour palette wanted. In Sagita's bouquet, the Australian flowers outweighed the international 🙌

You would be shocked by the number of people that tell me I must love playing with flowers for a living! 💐

Floristry is sooo much more than that though 💁 I've made this little pie chart to show you just how much goes into one floral job 😲

I also forgot to put in their emailing and my absolute favourite thing (definitely sarcasm there) is social media 😂

Arranging florals is such a small part of the process of wedding flowers! You'd be surprised to know that quoting, cleaning and prepping take up the majority of my time 🙈

I just ask that you remember this when you question why your florals are costing you an 'arm and a leg'! There's more to it than just wholesale costs involved.

✨Vase Variety ✨

I go through fine details such as vase heights and shapes when discussing tablescapes 💐

It is so important to have variety in your vases so they aren't one tone.

I have vases in stock, a lot of them are old juice bottles, honey jars, etc. This means they are naturally different and have character to them 😄

I also like to give my clients the option to collect their own jars so that their guests can take the centrepieces with them at the end of the night 🙌The flowers get a second chance to make a room beautiful!

If you saw my reel on Monday you'd know I think that cake cutting is a tradition that should definitely stay in 2022! 🎂

This picture is exactly why 😍 How cute is this picture of Em and Brendon?!

It might feel weird cutting your wedding cake in front of all of your guests 🙈

I'm not going to lie to you, it is hard to make cake cutting flow nicely in the schedule. It will be awkward, but you will have the gorgeous photos for years to come to show to the younger generations in your fam 🙌

Navigating the world of finding and booking your wedding vendors can be difficult and tedious! 😣

So we want to make it as easy as possible for you to book us in 😍

Below are the 6 easy steps for booking us in for your special day:

1. Fill in our contact form 📋
We ask a decent amount of questions, this is so we can give you the correct info the first time we email back! We can then let you know if we are available for your date.

2. Quote 💲
We will send you a custom quote. We can amend the quote until you are happy with it.

3. Consult ☕️
If you'd like to meet with us to chat more we can schedule a video call.

4. Signing the Contract 📝
We will send through a contract for you to sign, it is all done online for your convenience.

5. Invoice & Initial Questionnaire ✔️
Once the contract is signed we will send an invoice through, a 25% booking fee is required and we will get you to fill in a new client questionnaire.

6. Plan Timeline
Once your booking fee is paid we send you through a custom plan timeline that outlines important meeting dates and when to expect to hear from us.

Then the fun stuff starts!!! 🙌

🌸Unpopular flowers🌸

You'd be surprised how many people have a preconceived opinion on certain flower varieties.

This could be because they see them as:
◾️ Supermarket flowers
◾️ Basic garden grow flowers
◾️ Cheap

One of these flowers is Gerberas! They get such a bad wrap and I just don't understand why.

I used these amazing spider gerberas in Shelby's bouquets and they looked absolutely amazing and definitely packed a punch 😍

It is really important to know your floral budget when enquiring with us! 💲

We do however recommend coming in with an open mind 💁 So often we have couples come to us with a wishlist as long as their arm and a small budget 🙈

When this happens you will be provided with 2 quotes:
✔️One with the cost of everything you really want on your wishlist in the style and colour scheme of your reference images.

✔️The other with the cost of alternative styles or select items on your wishlist that come within your budget and will still look amazing!

✨Stand-in Bridesmaid✨

George & Sagita gave me my first experience of being a stand-in bridesmaid! 🙌

As Sagita's family couldn't travel due to COVID they decided not to have a wedding party, but they still needed some help during the ceremony and photos.

My job was solely to make sure George & Sagita looked as fine as they could be for their photos 💁

Some of my duties included:
🌸Straightening the dress
🌸Holding the bouquet
🌸Holding the veil when it just wouldn't stay in!
🌸Getting the champagne for epic photos

I had such a great time riding around in the buggy with them, it's definitely a wedding I will remember for a long time ☺️

So, my question is, does anyone else need a stand-in bridesmaid? Pick me! 😂

Here We Go 🙈

You may have seen last week that there have been a few issues with floral supply lines coming into Perth 😣

A lot of the flowers used in Australian weddings are imported, in particular roses 🌹 This detail shocks so many people when I tell them (I am super open with clients where their flowers are coming from)

The shipments that would usually come in from Ecuador have been cancelled for January ❌This means a lot of substituting for the roses we'd usually use.

This is the main reason I won't guarantee any specific flowers, even roses which are usually the most reliable! 😱

Be gentle with your florist when there are supply issues! They are desperately trying to get you the flowers you want!

🌹Head table florals🌹

I had so much fun creating with this colour palette for Sagita & George!

Sagita had some very specific requests for what she didn't want in her wedding flowers. Those included:
❌No babies breath
❌No gum or any leaves that are too pointy

So Instead we used:
✔️White statice for filler
✔️Quince & Japanese Spindle for greenery with a touch of Jasmine

If there is a flower or type of greenery you really don't want in your florals let us know and we'll make sure it's nowhere to be seen! 🙅

About us!

Here's a little bit about me, Katie, the founder and owner of Primrose Delight. I always knew that weddings interested me, remembering back to high school one of my big dreams was to move to the outskirts of New York, own a BnB on acreage and run weddings there! But It was at the end of 2017 is when I seriously considered event planning as a career option. With the encouragement of my husband I finally took the plunge into small business ownership in Early 2018.

My background is building props and scenery for theatre, receiving a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Production and Design through Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. I was running the bump ins (set up) for large theatre shows, managing multiple groups of people to make sure the show would go smoothly & on time for opening.

I am one of those crazy people who loves getting creative, yet planning and logistics make me thrive! These are all aspects that I could see would make a perfect wedding planner.

My creative background has helped so many of my clients! From creating dried petal confetti to making wooden backdrops, managing end to end event planning & tricky wedding budgets & spreadsheets... my aim is to help my clients achieve the most EPIC wedding they could imagine!
