I never stop being amazed at how much stronger the tender annuals are that self seed in the fall and start growing at their own pace in the spring. The trays of Orlaya that I started in the house in March are coming along but no where near the glory of those that I have found growing in random places in the garden. Strength takes time!

This time of year it is one big game of "what's left" but I love how this makes you see colour and form in new ways.

I think that is a wrap on the Lisianthus. What a rewarding plant. I've loved watching it through all it's stages. But next year, how am I supposed to choose a moderate amount of colors?!

And look at the generosity from my mother-in-law! Heading home from a day-trip to Brier Island with a trunk load of blackberries, onions, lettuce and Gladiolus'! I didn't know until today Glads are her favorite. I loved this little glimpse into her preferences.

Hey friends in Annapolis, a Corner Blooms drop is happening at Sissiboo AR this afternoon

The dahlias are starting and I am so excited to see the blooms of my new varieties from Stone Mountain Gardens. One of my favourite early-morning summer activities is catching the bees sound asleep in the dahlia blossoms. Could there be a better bed??!

I am not a hot weather gal....I'd much prefer to be looking for my wool sweater then sleeping under a fan...but the Lisianthus this week couldn't be happier and their chartreuse green buds that resemble roses are keeping me happy.

I am lucky to know a lot of very good birders. The kind that can be in mid-conversation and interject with a "hear the flicker?" and then keep on going with out losing their train of thought. I have deep appreciation for this but have not known where to start with learning bird songs. Then this summer same friends have suggested the Cornell Ornithology Lab app Merlin Bird Id. It has been a game changer! A door have been opened and the world that lies beyond it is incredible. While picking this week I have heard so many new sounds: House Wrens, American Redstarts, Song Sparrows, Oven Birds, and of course the ever chatty Red-eyed Vireo.....

Here's to birds and the miracles they are!

Icelandic poppies! Of all the annuals I have tried growing, these are the trickiest and the most rewarding. The seeds are nearly microscopic seeds, germination can be tricky, and transplanting them out requires a lot of patience and care. And then they do nothing above ground for way too long while they are getting their roots established. But then suddenly they are strong and vivacious and their nodding heads start to appear. When they finally do bloom they are a perfect blend of sturdy and delicate and they come in the most exquisite colours.

Bouquets at Sissiboo Coffee, Bear River today. The rannunculus' are not as long-stemmed as I was hoping for but they are too beautiful not to share. And as always, growing them was a lesson in many things!

I love all the delicate blossoms that start in fill in this time of year... the lily of the valley filling the morning air with their perfume and the ever cheerful geums dancing under the dew.

A very big hug to my dear friend Maggie who has been purchasing a weekly bouquet from me even last year when I was a very timid beginner seller. She has been nothing but supportive and encouraging even when the stems are short and the tulip season brief. ox
