To honor Red Dress day this year, three BB Costumes dresses are on display at Highlands United Church in North Vancouver. We stand in remembrance of the missing and murdered Indigenous mothers, daughters, aunties, sisters, grandmothers, nieces and cousins as we honor those lost and in support of the community they've left behind.
BB Costumes is honored to have supported fims which uplift indigenous voices in telling stories that very much need to be heard.

Dee and Joshua swung by on Wednesday to pick up a pile of rolling racks (and one base) and made it all in only one trip - pretty impressive if you ask us! If your production is in need of extra racks, extenders, bases, laundry baskets - or anything else - reach out to us here at BB!

Another few new editions to our “Earlies” collection - we paired this gorgeous 30s beach set - a matching knit tank and shrug - with these gaucho pants printed with Jantzen Swimmer-esque water-skiers, and accessorized with a raffia woven-and-emboidered handbag. Last week’s 1930s suit ensemble (on the right) inspired us to show of some more pieces from our growing “earlies” section! First up is this slinky draped navy dress that Blanche Macdonald Fashion intern Kaelinn Wilkie paired with poppy red leather gloves and strappy pumps, and matching felt hat (sneakily styled to bring it from ‘20s close-fit cloche to perky ‘30s cap)

Holiday Separates originally sold with blouse, romper, and skort options, as seen in the yellow colour-way in the 1940s Catalogue Page! We paired our skirt with a floral vintage blouse and a wicker bag for the perfect summer outfit.

Our owner purchased this skirt for character Hailey on Bletchley Circle: San Fransisco (but didn’t make it to screen) currently streaming on BritBox

Its Cinco de Mayo - the victory of the Battle of Puebla! A day to celebrate the history, heritage, culture and cuisine of Mexico.

Today we show our appreciation and inspiration with two very special patio skirts from our collection: the first, a beautiful scene showing marimba musicians and dancers in Tehuana headdresses ; the second is a stunning hand-painted and sequin-stitched velvet.

As a bite-sized historical tangent: Patio or Fiesta skirts and dresses rose in popularity throughout the late 40s, and lasting into the early sixties, with significant contribution from one Dolores Gonzales (1907-1994).
Ms. Gonzales and her siblings blended the traditional clothing of their Mexican heritage with Native American dress to cement this iconic mid-century fashion. Dolores’ Shop in Arizona, dubbed “Dior of the Desert” in 1956 by the Los Angeles Times, supplied orders all from over the world, and expanded market outlets across the United States.
