Another trip around the sun! Another season halfway done!

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday and it was blissfully simple. I spent the day with my husband, got my nails done and reflected about all the wonderful blessings I’ve got in my life - and a big one is this community!

I’ve been having more fun online this year with creating my fruit segment but I realized I haven’t shared anything personal in a long long time. So in honour of my 33rd (I feel so old!) birthday, here are 33 things you may or may not know about me!

1. My middle name is Dawn
2. Pasta is life. Specifically my homemade pasta with cheese sauce
3. I quote the Simpsons probably every day
4. My eyes are slightly two different colours
5. I can’t handle food or drinks that are too hot or too cold in temperature
6. I used to live in Dubai and England
7. My mom is a Newfie
8. My favourite dessert is cheesecake
9. I have two older siblings, a brother and sister

11. I used to spend my childhood summers in Newfoundland

Arizona day 3 was an absolute dream! ✨

Not only was the backdrop absolutely stunning (and right beside the parking lot making set up a lot easier than expected lol) But I had an absolute blast with bringing this vision to life. Just take a look at that table!

I’m thinking we have to bring a bigger group with us next year… for all my floral peeps out there, what do you think? Would you join me out in Arizona?

Dresses.

The fun part! (Or at least for me).

Choosing your wedding dress (or dresses) feels like an extension of you — when I design for my couples I always want to see the dress. It is the piece that sets the tone.

When it was time to find mine, I had a clear vision of what I wanted.
Tiered layers, relaxed, playful and timeless.

I couldn’t find it.
Anywhere.
And I looked, like really, really looked.

I searched all of our local shops, Toronto bridal stores and even went and called various places in the states.
No where.

Cue Noor.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Noor when designing a beautiful wedding in Greece last fall - she custom designed the Bridesmaids gowns - and that’s when I knew I had to reach out!

Having studied fashion design in school, I have an appreciation for the work it takes to create a custom gown. I immediately connected with Noor on my vision and trusted her completely to create something beautiful.

And she outdid herself! I literally cried when I saw the dress for the first time.

For my bridesmaids, I gave them the option to choose their own floral (of course I would 😅) patterned dresses, within a colour palette.

The aim was to a) give them choice and b) to create a relaxed cottage garden-party atmosphere.

My second dress Iwanted to keep simple, minimal - but then I found this incredible blue and white printed set from and knew this was it!

I reached out to to create a custom French blue veil to match. I’m still trying to find excuses to wear it again, I loved it so much!

Husband + Wife.

I’ve finally gotten the time to sit down and begin pouring over my wedding gallery. Which means, finally sharing some images here. Partly as a testimony to all the amazing people that helped bring our day together and partly as a simple documentation so I can look back and remember this day.

As any bride will know, the day goes by in a blink! And that is why I say it is so, so important to make sure it’s captured!
The way you want.

It’s worth it.

Our wedding day was not without its chaos!
Working in the industry for so long, I thought I understood.
I had an inside glimpse at countless weddings, bridal parties, family dynamics.
But it’s not the same.
It’s different when you’re the bride.
The couple.
In all the most wonderful ways.
And all the most stressful ways too.

But ultimately,
through all the decisions you make,
you have the opportunity to choose what kind of a day you have.

And we chose joy!

coloured tapers:

switch out traditional white taper candles for any color of your choice to bring in uniqueness.

low florals and high stem combo:

want height, but also texture? Try a low floral, high stem combo.

get creative with mini potted trees:

love greenery? imagine a mini citrus tree as your centerpiece. perfect for a summer wedding, and it will guarantee you stand out!

get personal with your own items:

bring items from home that are sentimental or unique to you. Add it into the mix and have something on each table to serve as a mix-and-match centerpiece option.

add metallics or patterned vases:

gold metallic candle holders, vases, or even patterned vases is an easy solution when it comes to adding more color to your ambiance.

Five Things Every Bride Should Know About Their Florals:

🤍 Your Bridal Bouquet Should Be Your Number One Priority -

This bouquet plays a huge role in your wedding as it will be photographed in almost every photo. Not only is the bouquet in all your portraits, but it also is used as a backdrop for details at the beginning of the day. So that one bouquet can play a massive role in how your overall gallery and album looks.

🤍 Statement Pieces VS Smaller Arrangements -

Sometimes statement pieces are more memorable to not only you, but also to your guests. If you are able to do both, by all means.. do both! But if you are trying to decide which way to go, statement pieces will leave you with no regrets. 

🤍Communicate With Your Florist About Your Timeline -

Let your florist know your timeline so floral set up can be done before any photos start being taken. Ideally, having your florals set up early is a great way to ensure you get those detail shots you want.

🤍 Add Color Floral To Your Bouquet To Help It Stand Out From Your Dress -

If there is too much white on white, sometimes it can get lost in photos. Adding even soft pops of color can help it contrast against the white or ivory of your dress and make it more eye-catching.

here is a checklist of questions you should make sure your florist covers so you walk away feeling confident and secure that they have it all covered after your initial meeting! your florist should be leading the conversation during your meeting, as they are the professional, and should always cover these topics but here are some questions to ensure it all gets covered:

Wedding Day:

Is my wedding date available?
How many other events will you have scheduled at the same time?
Have you worked at this venue before?
Can you do a venue walk through before the big day? If so, do you charge for this?
How far in advance do you create the arrangements? How are they stored?

Floral Budget:

Do you require a minimum floral budget?
What recommendations can you give me to maximize my budget?

Background Check:

How long have you been in business?
How many weddings have you done?

Floral Design:

How would you describe your design style?
Which flowers can be substituted to better fit my budget?
Do I rent vases from you or do I get to keep them?
Will you work with my cake designer if I decide to add florals to my cake?

how to preserve your wedding day flowers 💐♥️

press the flowers: 

select as many flowers as you’d like or even take an entire bouquet, and spread them out on clean wax paper so they will lift easily after pressing. place the wax paper inside of a heavy book, add another piece of wax paper on top, and weigh it down with a heavy object. once they are pressed and dried, having them framed is always a nice touch.

hang the flowers upside down to dry: 

let all the blooms air dry for at least a week or longer and then arrange them in a vase or create a wreath. 

make a resin paperweight: 

you can use clear epoxy resin to preserve your flowers into decorative shapes. just get a mold of whatever shape you like, fill your mold halfway with epoxy resin and arrange the flowers in the fluid. fill to the top and let dry. Remove the mold and you will have something you can enjoy forever.

paint them or hire an artist to:

having a permanent reminder of what your florals looked like the day of, is a great option. commission your favourite artist to paint from a photo of your arrangement or bouquet. 

hire a professional:

Tips for choosing your wedding flowers step by step: 

Create your budget! This is crucial, and should always be your first step. Once you have a number in mind, start looking for florists who are able to work within your budget. The final dollar amount will depend on factors such as: where you are getting married, the types of flowers you want, and how much flowers are a priority to you. For example, having an amazing floral wedding ceremony arch may be more important to you than handing out wedding favors. Getting clear on your budget avoids getting your hopes up on a certain look without discussing numbers with your florist first.

Get inspired to create your wedding flower vision! There are many options and routes you can take when working with a florist, so to avoid getting overwhelmed, take the time to figure out what you like. Do you like simple flower arrangements? Do you like bright color palettes? These are all important questions to ask when finding a florist to work with. Florists are artists, and some may specialize in certain designs where others may not.

Other tips include: make a list of all the floral arrangements you’ll need, use your venue and color palette and inspiration, add in meaningful touches.
