New Pride Flag 🏳️🌈 who dis?
You can tear down our Pride flag, but you can’t take away our PRIDE 🌈
In the last week, we’ve had our Pride flag ripped down in the middle of the night. We’ve had people drive past our establishment and yell “F**k the gays!” And we’ve had someone on facebook comment on on of our drag videos “Burn the place to the ground.”
Thankfully, everyone on our team is safe and no one has suffered any physical harm.
It would be easy to dismiss these things as just some mischievous teenagers causing trouble or just some neckbeard saying things on the internet. But these same sentiments have led to trans teenagers being bullied and killed and to a nightclub full of LGBTQ+ people being gunned down.
Pride is more than just a party. That flag and these drag shows that feature and celebrate LGBTQ+ artists are an everyday symbol that we need to continue to fight for the rights of LGBTQ+ people, because they are not safe and there is still so much bigotry in the world. They’re a symbol that we need to continue to be loud and proud and not give an inch in the face of unimaginable violence and hate.
Here’s what we’re gonna do: we’re gonna continue to hang our Pride flag proudly and continue to feature and celebrate LGBTQ+ artists not just during Pride month, but every weekend we’re open. We’re going to report the vandals (caught on security cameras) and the violent facebook commenter to the police because we can’t be sure if these are idle threats and mischief or escalating acts of violence against LGBTQ+ peoples. And we’re going to continue to take all possible security measures and care to insure a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ people in our establishment.
