Around the Farm Friday. It’s getting pretty clear around here that Fall is just around the corner. We know our flowers will enjoy soaking in the Summer sunshine while it lasts and we hope you enjoy it too! Happy long weekend everyone!

Our Asiatic Lilies are one of the items heading to the Auction this week. They are a sea of green out in our fields right now, but once they land in a bouquet in someone’s home or office, they’ll open to a beautiful vibrant colour!

Let’s check out what’s growing around Quik’s! Fall colours are slowly starting to fill our bays as the end of summer gets closer. We’re also nearing the end of the season for our Carthamus, Zinnias, and Snapdragons, but we’re excited for the new varieties coming our way. The change of seasons is always big around here and we’ll be sure to show you the new colour palettes as the bloom!

We’re so excited to be sending some of our new products to the auction this week! We grew several new varieties of Sunflowers as part of our trial program and WOW, are they ever stunning! (Can you guess which variety is called “Teddy Bear Sunflower”? 🌻 🐻 We’re also sending some Zinnias and Kalanchoe (both of which were trials this year) and some of our favourite standbys like Statice, Lilies and various Chrysanthemums.

What do you think about our trials? Are the new Sunflowers, Zinnias and Kalanchoe worth growing again?! 🤞

Our Employee Spotlight this month is our Team Lead of Mother Plants- Preeti Sandhu. Preeti has been working with us for 4 years now and she’s a crucial part of our team! She takes care of our mother plants, which are essential to our greenhouse. Thanks for all that you do Preeti!

We’re sending Kalanchoe to the auction this week! It’s our very first time growing these little beauties and we’re interested to hear your thoughts! Our fourth colour (orange) is coming soon, but for now we have white, pink and red. If you miss them this time around, don’t worry- we’ll have them available for the next couple of weeks.

As a company that thrives on Innovation, we're always testing out new flowers and varieties. This summer we planted a small portion of our field with Zinnias and they were an immediate hit! We planted 7 different varieties and the vibrant colours were a wonderful addition to our summer product line. Added bonus they have a sweet smell and the bees, butterflies and frogs loved them too!

We'll only have Zinnias for a few more weeks before they're gone for the season. What do you think about this flower? Would you like to see more of them next year?

Around the Farm Friday! This week at Quik’s Farm we had the very special honour of welcoming delegates from Save-on-Foods for a tour around our farm. They got to see our team in action, see our crops up close and even try their hand at floral design! We love having the opportunity to partner with such a wonderful company and we’re glad they made the time to come see us!

We also spent the week with our normal routine of planting, picking and production. Thanks for an awesome week everyone! 🌻

This month our Employee Spotlight is focused on Santiago Cruz Blas, a Greenhouse & Nursery Labourer here at Quik’s Farm. Santiago was one of the first foreign workers from Mexico to join our team and he’s been working with us for the past 12 years. He typically works with us from January thru August or September and we’re honoured to have him. Our conversation took place with the help of a translator, so this spotlight will read a little differently than most. 😊 Gracias Santiago!

Exciting news! We’ve grown some Zinnias for the very first time and we’re sending buckets of them to the auction this week. Just look at these amazing flowers! The colours are so very perfect for adding some summer vibes to your bouquets. 😀

We are proud to be the biggest grower of Sunflowers here in the Fraser Valley! With approximately 25 acres of field devoted to our Sunflower program, we will plant roughly 2.5 million Sunflower seeds this year! Our Sunflower season starts in late May and runs through to early October, which means we’re able to offer these stunning stems for the entire Summer and early Fall.

We are currently seeding 3 different varieties, but we’re testing out a handful of new varieties in our trials program, which will offer different colours and looks! We hope to show you those more closely once they’ve bloomed.

Our Sunflower field is a beautiful site to behold with it’s rolling hills, perfectly planted rows and gorgeous setting against the mountains. While it’s not open to the public, you can certainly find our finished product in your local floral shop or grocery store floral centre.🌻

Today our Employee Spotlight is focused on Komal Sharma, Human Resource Assistant. We are honoured that Komal has chosen to be a part of our team for nearly 4 years now. She’s a natural when it comes to taking care of our team’s safety and well being! When she’s not giving tours to new employees, you might find her doing safety checks, planning a company outing or administering First-Aid. Thank you for all that you do for us Komal!

Our outdoor crops have been enjoying this warmer weather! We have about 40 acres of outdoor fields where we grow Sunflowers, Carthamus, Hybrid Lilies, Zinnia Trials, Sorghum Trials, Eryngium trials, Hydrangea Trials and Kale! We’ll check in on their progress throughout the summer!

One of our Core Values is “Community” and sometimes that means we host students on field trips, hold food drives or volunteer our time at a charity… other times it means we get our team together outside of work and shoot each other with paintballs! Last weekend we didn’t let the rain stop us from a bbq and afternoon playing paintball. We have a great team here at Quik’s Farm and we enjoy spending time together. 😀

SUNFLOWERS! 🌻 Thats right, the first sunflowers of the year were picked this week and they were sent to the United Flower Growers auction yesterday! While it may have only been one bucket, it was still an exciting moment! We’ll have sunflowers from now until Thanksgiving!🐞

SUSTAINABILITY MATTERS

We’re working with our suppliers to reduce the amount of plastic packaging used with the bulk product we bring in. We use bulk products in many of our bouquets, so the reduction in waste has already been significant. With the number of suppliers that have already made the change, we’ve reduced the amount of plastics going to the landfill by about 50kg a week.

This month our Employee Spotlight is focused on Marten Kuhn, Sales Manager. Marten has been a key member of the Quik's team since he joined the sales department 4 and a half years ago. He's often one of the smiling faces you'll see at trade shows and he works closely with several of our customers here in Western Canada.

Here at Quik's Farm we're proud growers of 8 different kinds of Statice! This unique flower has small compact blooms and makes an excellent addition to bouquets. We get our Statice plugs from Holland and once planted in our greenhouse, they stay in the ground for about 4-5 months. Over that time we're able to pick from each stem multiple times! Our Statice is available at the United Flower Growers Auction this week.

We are proud to call ourselves a full service floral provider! Not only do we grow, nurture and pick our flowers, we design and arrange bouquets, and sell and ship them to our customers!
