It honestly breaks my heart to have to post this (long) message but we thank you in advance for taking the time to read, reflect & share.⁠

Please consider this message a Heartfelt Request for Kindness and Understanding 💙 ⁠

As many of you know, Gabi & Jules is proud to be an inclusive employer with over 35% of our team self-identifying as having a disability. Our diverse team includes many talented individuals from a variety of neurodiverse backgrounds, all of whom bring unique strengths and perspectives to our bakery. ⁠

In recent months, we have seen an increase in the mistreatment of some our team members by some of our customers. There's become frequent occurrences of rudeness, impatience and, in some cases, just blatant hostility towards our team. ⁠

For us, this treatment of our valued team members is simply unacceptable. We refuse to just let it slide and say "it's part of being in customer service" because it absolutely should not be. Everyone deserves to come to work and feel safe, included and valued. We do our utmost to create that environment for our team members and we expect our customers to do the same.⁠

With all this in mind, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding if a team member’s communication or approach varies from what you might expect. For us, inclusivity is a top priority, and we believe it’s one of the things that makes our team exceptional.⁠

Let's all remember that you do not know what the individual serving you is dealing with or what challenges they may be facing. Let's give the benefit of the doubt that they are doing their best & remember that everyone is deserving of kindness and respect.⁠

We know that likely those of you who have read this aren't the problem but we do hope that this might raise some awareness and maybe might lead to a little more kindness. Lofty goals? We don't want to believe that. We are all capable of more and we're sure we all want for a community that not only fosters inclusion but also ensures that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. 🩷
