Blooms! Yes, it’s been a late spring/ summer here in Edmonton, but there is colour in the garden beds at last!!
Some fantastic stem length this year, my 3rd year yarrow is almost as tall as my hip and the dianthus is nearly there too.
Just wanted to post some pretty pictures of the blooms I was able to enjoy this morning, hopefully my sunflowers will be coming around in a few weeks, fingers crossed!

Something pretty for the coffee table today, my biennial dianthus is in full bloom finally after a very late start! This year has been madness with the cool wet weather!

Update: With the weather warming up today, I’m hoping to plant my now enormous Ranunculus and anemones in my hoophouse in the next few days! Then goes in the Lisianthus and the Scabiosa Fama series. These are all new to my cut flower line up, looking forward to the experience.

Lisianthus: the bigger ones areover an inch long now 😊. The youngest bunch are getting their first set of true leaves. Progress is slow but steady

The Anemones are popping up, pushing the soil out of the way and unfurling their necks 😊. Every single one has signs of life and growth. (First set of anemones, I just started the second yesterday, along with the Ranunculus. )

My Geums are coming along nicely! (Under grow lights, hence the pink tinge). Geums are fantastic cut flowers that can be grown in shade! The variety I’m growing is Lady Stratheden, a gorgeous golden yellow.

Update on the Lisianthus: going strong! The large ones are 7 weeks, all have survived so far. The tiny sprouts are 7 DAYS old in 3/4 inch soil blocks. Every square has a sprout.

Lisianthus update: the babies are doing fantastic, we have the 3rd set of true leaves coming in nicely and the biggest are about as big as my thumbnail. The strongest growers so far seem to be the Voyage First Love’s and the Rosanne Clear Greens. Time will tell how they will do, but no casualties yet!

Happy new year! Painting Petals Urban Gardens is already gearing up for 2024 season! All my seed orders are in, a few are started and I’m looking forward to growing more beautiful blooms come spring!
I will be offering bouquet subscriptions this season, if this interests anyone, please feel free to contact me. I will attach some photos of my flowers and arrangements as examples of what my subscribers will receive.

I’m exited about the Lisianthus project I’m working on, so far, very good!
If all continues to go really well, I may be looking at selling plugs (within Canada) in the next year or 2 or 3….

The greenhouse project is a jungle of lush green foliage over 3 feet high! The Zinnias, Cosmos and Nicotiana have all finally started to bloom, the Strawflower is getting ready after a late start, and the dahlias look gorgeous and are putting up shoots with buds already! ( last year, I didn’t get blooms until late August, so I’m happy!)

It’s been a big spring full of projects!! Opened up the garden and put up the 20 x 10 ft Polytunnel! Took down the segmented framed in garden trellises behind the hot tub. Loads more room to grow this year.
