We're lucky enough to party for a living all around the world 🤘🏼 She is the proud owner of ‘Joy by Joelle’ based in Edmonton, AB. Joelle graduated with her degree in Business Management majoring in Business Economics from the University of Alberta Augustana Campus. In her first few years of university, she wanted to be everything! From a cake decorator, to financial advisor, to web designer, to bu

When Joelle caught herself creating lists, storing past wedding stationary, and taking screenshots of backdrops and centrepieces, her passion for events became clear. She absolutely loves event planning because of the level of sophistication and organization it requires to run any kind of successful event. Joelle fully delved into the event industry in order to grasp where her personality fit best where she was fortunate enough to have worked with the Edmonton Marathon, FaBLOOMosity, KH Events & Decor, and Big Valley Jamboree. Being involved in several multifaceted events has reinforced her strong organizational skills which sparked her passion of sharing in one of life’s most memorable moments–weddings. Heading into the next 48 a little shaky here if I'm being totally honest. We're heading to Camrose for Lilas's (my granny's) funeral tomorrow and I can't wait to see my family. Hug them all. Spend time with them. Share all the mem's of granny. All of it.

Her favourite colour was pink. She loved hats. She was the kind of woman who "called the cow black" if you know what I mean. Resilient. Frugal as all can be LOL. I think about who she was and how I remember her through all the years spent and have noticed sooooo much of her in me looking back. A love for hats, the girl who says what everyones thinking, and a spit fire, spicey personality.

My cousin and I are doing a tribute to her from all the grandkids and I can't wait to honour her and thank her for everything that she instilled in all of us.

Her favourite colour was pink and everyone was asked to wear pink for her funeral instead of black. How lovely.

We're going to look so fetch with you tomorrow Lilas 🌸👒😇

I got a text from earlier this week from one of my brides where we did her wedding two years ago now and here's what she said:"So i'm looking at photos again, especially the decor ones, and I'm just crying. Because it was so beautiful. You are a fu**in rockstar!!! Seriously, I knew I was so thankful for you, but I don’t think I ever knew how thankful. So just thank you thank you thank you. Never stop kicking ass and taking names. Because without you, people wouldn’t be randomly tearing up on their couch on a Tuesday morning."

I'm heading out for another wedding this weekend and I just can't help but have all the feels going into it. I'm always so grateful to be there for all of my couples and have the ripple effect of me being a part of their wedding still "rippling" two years later. You know who you are out there 😉 TYSM 🙏🏼

Here's to all my wedding vendors today! The most accurate wedding vendor quote i've ever seen/heard is "....have you ever drank a Red Bull to relax?!" LOL yeah, that slaps eh? 🤌🏼😂Keep going. You've SOO got this! We're all working around the clock right now to bring about one of the biggest days of all of our client's lives and we do NOT take that lightly. It's the time of year when we don't get to see much of our friends and family (if at all!) even though we're watching everyone else jet off to the lake or sit on the patio on the weekend.

That pill never gets easier to swallow as each year passes by but what we all do during the summer is so meaningful and so bloody important. We came into this industry knowing there would be a trade-off and when an install is complete or at 3 AM when we've finished a strike, we all flop down into our bed and say "s**t that was awesome."

You're all doing you're absolute best and that's all our clients could ever ask of us. So let me sit in your stands today with an obnoxious foam finger in the air yelling "YOU'VE GOT THIS! WEOOOOO!" at you ok?

And don't forget to eat and drink your water damit 😏

Let's talk about the elephant in the room: weddings can be pricey affairs. It's not just about saying 'I do' anymore; it's about creating an experience for you and your loved ones. Getting married now compared to what most of our parents had for their wedding also comes with a ton of judgment. What I know about weddings now, compared to back then (and yes, well aware of the fact that they still achieve the same outcome), is that they're so much more custom and experiential.

Our generation isn't interested in having a potluck affair, photos taken in a studio or the local hall for the reception. Times have changed and we're simply interested in wayyyy more than that!

Weddings are an investment and if I had a dime for every time I’ve heard “OMG, that’s a down payment on a house” or “I could have paid off almost all my debt”…well I wouldn’t be here lol. While that may be true, it’s what a couple chooses for themselves and they shouldn’t be judged for it 🤌🏼

Times change, things change and people change = fact.
Opinions & judgement playing a role in your wedding = fake news. 😏

For all the newly engaged couples here, do you. Don’t get competitive with your wedding, do you. When you hear the words “Well I would have done…”, do you. Stay the course because it will always be about the two of you celebrating in whatever shape/form/fashion feels best so just 👏🏼 Do 👏🏼 YOU!

Quick piece of advice for you today: once you’ve settled on your wedding style or the whole design of your wedding....GET OFF PINTEREST!! lol

One of the hardest things (and yes, even for myself!) is to not want to keep looking for or thinking about more ideas to incorporate into a wedding design concept. The best advice that I can give you is to try and pull the pin on it altogether because otherwise the god awful ‘second guessing’ begins creeping in. You’ll begin to question all the choices/decisions you’ve made and then whats worse, you become overwhelmed with having to potentially redo everything!

Stick to your guns, once you’ve got it get out of the Wedding Facebook groups, pinterest—the works! And then thank me later 😉

Wanna know what my post wedding recovery is?

Are you giggling at the fact that I even have a post-wedding recovery routine?! ME TOO!! lol After running my ass off for 48 hours, Sunday comes around and it’s soooo hard to not want to do ANYTHING except lay on the couch, not speak a single word and watch Netflix series all day long. Where ma wedding vendors at?? LOL
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Okay so here it is:
1. COFFEE!! duh, lol (and sometimes with a big piece of cake from last nights wedding too! 🙊
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Posting to the gram about the wedding! I can’t ever do it during the day of so I take about 2-3 hours to post to our stories and create a reel of the couples big day!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Brunch because by this time its about 12/1PM.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Ice water foot plunge! 🧊 Yep you read that right, I sit on my deck with a giant silver tub of cold water for 20 minutes. I randomly did it one time last year and my entire body felt like it bounced back after so now I do it on the reg 🙌🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Consume an obnoxious amount of water and electrolytes. One may or may not persperate a tad while running a wedding and not drink/eat enough on the day of so I try so hard to drink as much water as I can on Sundays!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. Empty out my truck, clean out my backpack, and go through my emergency kit. If I don’t do this on Sunday, I’m always so chapped with myself when I need to go and do errands on Monday to get ready for the week and it looks like a bomb went off! lol I also go through my kit so that its clean, organized and ready to go for the next weekends client wedding!

7. Get horizontal and watch TV for the rest of the day! It’s like my treat for doing all the above to get reset knowing that I will get some much needed and well deserved horizontal time!

Tomorrow is officially KICK OFF DAY to our 2024 Wedding Season---yahooooooooooooo!!! 🥳 We're hitting the road to with our couple and are ready for a beautiful mountain wedding this weekend with them! 🏔But we needed to take a fit check moment for Jill on her wedding day. There is not one single detail that I DONT LOVE about her dress, hair, veil---all of it! It all just worked so perfectly together 💕

First of all, that hair color is giving us life 🤤 Jill did a textured floral hairpiece with her elbow-length veil that looped around the back and pinned on both sides of her updo. But take one look closer and you'll see the blush, 3-D florals that were sewn throughout the back...how stunning is that right??

Career highlight: being able to change into my sweatsuit at a clients wedding 😂Sinead + Kev had a sweatsuit dance party at the end of the night where all of the guests dipped to change out of their fancy dancy clothes and into their sweats only to come back to the reception and git DOWNNNUH 💃🏼🕺🏼

I've gotten asked over the years: "Thoughts on NOT doing assigned seating at our reception?"Avoid that idea like the plague 😌

The only two exceptions I could make to that rule are 1. you're doing a cocktail-style reception where there is mixed seating and food is served as passed appetizers or stations all night long or 2. if it's culturally the norm!

Otherwise, avoid entertaining the idea of no assigned bums to seats! Why? It puts your guests in a really awkward position of trying to do the math for how many are in their group, find a table for everyone and then when they can't...they literally start pulling chairs and place settings from other tables and your perfectly curated reception now has 2 tables with only 2 or 3 chairs left at it 🤦🏼‍♀️

PLUS, guests enjoy having that direction when arriving at your wedding (or any event for that matter!) versus it being a free for all. They take a look at your seating chart, find their table and quickly find their home base for the night! Easy peasy lemon squeasy 😉

When I was doing a wedding at the back in March, I was talking to a friend on the phone and they had asked if I had a wedding that weekend. I told them I was headed to Banff and the reply was "OMG you're so damn lucky!"And it caught me dead in my tracks for a second. Why? Well as obnoxious as this might sound, I'm just going to work 🤷🏼‍♀️ Are the mountains some of the most beautiful landscapes I've worked in? You friggin' bet! But I'm not necessarily there to take in all the sights and enjoy all that being in the mountains have to offer. We're there to rock out our client's wedding and hit the highway!

But my friends comment had me looking at it completely different and gave me the exact reframe that I needed. How lucky am I that I get to travel to the moutains to execute a clients wedding in one of the most beautiful places that people from ALL OVER THE WORLD TRAVEL TOO! I think we all can take things for granted and I definitely needed that little eyeopening moment to remember where we are, what we have the gift of doing and where we have the opportunity to do it.

What do I see every couple stepping further and further away from as each summer passes??

1. Being walked down the aisle by their parents. It’s that Meghan Markle moment where they’re totally happy walking themselves down the aisle!
2. Garter AND bouquet tosses. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some 🎶 Pony 🎶 and the gut laughs that follow 😉
3. Receiving lines—-like they’ve GHOSTED EM’!I seriously have don’t a total of 2 over the last 9 YEARS of being a wedding planner!
4. Traditional wedding outfits (aka: black suits, white dress). They’re really embracing fashion when it comes to their wedding day look. A white (or any colour for that matter) wedding jumpsuit?! Yes hunneeeeee 🤌🏼
5. Signing the marriage license during the ceremony and doing it either before or after! Most don’t even know this is an option and usually it because couples are wanting to shorten the ceremony as a whole!

Pro Tip: remember that your bridesmaids dresses don't have to dictate the colour scheme of your wedding!Bride's naturally start/base their entire wedding design off of their bridesmaid dresses colour. Why? I have no clue! lol I always let them know that bridesmaids dresses or suits can have as much or as little to do with the overall look of your wedding as you like.

Think of it this way, all of your guests are going to show up wearing something different, so why would the suits and dresses of your wedding party HAVE to match the decor?!

So choose a colour palette you absolutely adore. Unless your wedding party peeps are laying on the tables as centrepieces or tablecloths, you don't have to play the matchy-matchy game 🙌🏼

Rachel + Thor's first dance song was something I'll never, EVER forget! 😂Nothing against the lovey dovey songs that are chosen, but this one was just so "out of the box" that had guests giggling and smiling the whole way through.

It was "In Spite of Ourselves" by John Sprine. You have to take a listen. Here's a snippet at some of the lyrics:

I LOVE when couples are open to playing around with the idea of a non-traditional archway as a backdrop to their ceremony. I'm always looking for a way to incorporate their design elements into all touch points of their big day. For Jess + Wyatt, she wanted a neutral palette, stone textures and muted pops of color in her florals...and voila!

We ayered these cinder blocks together to create some height and visual texture and then had jujjjj it up with pops of florals and moss throughout. It turned out beautifully with that view of the North Saskatchewan River in the background 🤌🏼

I have the itch to do a big, bad tented wedding ya'll.

I used to do them ALL the time to the point where I became known for doing tented weddings actually. Over the last couple years, they've been so few and far from in-between.

So...I'm putting it out into the universe today that I want to work with a baddie couple doing a tent wedding 😏 An insane decor installation on a private piece of property for a couple who wants to make an obnoxious statement. A couple who wants an experience for themselves and their guests that they will most likely never have again.

Something soooo epic that my job on their wedding day will be picking jaws up off the floor all…night…long 🤌🏼

When I dove into the planning and design of Ali + Matt's NYE wedding, it was crystal clear that these two were aiming for anything but an average soirée, not by a long shot. 🤘🏼I'm talking champagne aerialists gracefully pouring bubbly from 20' in the air during their ceremony, a magician that weaved through the crowd at the reception and a NYE countdown with the whole crew!

And let me tell you, they "ripped the k**b off” that night OMG. The energy was 💯, the bar was a hive, they all tore up the dance floor and set the NYE wedding bar so damn high 🥂
