My heritage is Ukrainian and Polish, but my husband is not! So when I have a night on my own, I crave nostalgic, feel good food. Potato pancakes, sautéed sauerkraut, onions, mushrooms and a bbq sausage. Yummy!

Making Chinese food tonight and found a recipe to create my own Chinese 5 Spice Powder… it smells Devine!!

8 star anise pods
5 whole cloves
3 whole cinnamon sticks
1 Tablespoon Szechuan peppercorns (I couldn’t find them in town so I ordered off Amazon)
1 tablespoon fennel seed

Toast the first 3 ingredients in a small fry pan on medium heat for 3 minutes add final 2 ingredients and toast for 2 more minutes or until the peppercorns start to emit white smoke. Cool then process in grinder
