It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Fred of Cheltenham, Ontario on Wednesday October 5, 2022, at the age of 94 years. He is now rejoined with his loving wife of 61 years, Audrey (Churchill) Henderson. Fred is survived by his children; Judy & Wayne Howard, Howie & Carinna Lin, Doug & Elena, his 10 Grandchildren; Shawna, Yana & Bo Bates, Shannon, Christopher & Calisha, Taylor, Igor, Audrey, Lucas, Louie & Lucie, and his 4 Great-Grandchildren; Megan, Ryan, Mila, & Vera. Fred is also survived by his sister Edna and Howard Dale of Oakville, and friends Maureen Henderson and Tina Howe. Predeceased by his brothers, Jack, Len, and Bob. He will be missed and cherished by his children and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.
Fred was an entrepreneur and started a one-man wholesale floral business in the mid 1950’s. He would buy flowers from the flower growers and greenhouses in Brampton and sell them to flower shops in Toronto. One part of his business was purchasing cedar boughs from the Indigenous people on the Saugeen Reserve near Southampton, Ontario. As time went on, the demand for other floral products increased and this one-man floral business grew to importing from around the world. With trucks on the road to service Toronto and southern Ontario flower shops he treated his company like a family member. True love and devotion. Fred met and kept many friends along the way including competitors and suppliers. He left his legacy in the floral community when retiring in 1995. Highland Evergreen Supply Ltd. is continuing today because of his no nonsense and fair work ethic.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the CTC unit at the Georgetown Hospital who continuously work hard under these challenging conditions.
Family and friends will be received at the Scott Funeral Home - Brampton Chapel on Thursday October 13, 2022 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm with the funeral service to follow.
