Goodbye Lorne.

I knew this day was coming, yet I am in disbelief and the grief is palpable.

Reflecting on the profound impact of your journey, from the joy of your marriage to Rachel and the birth of your two beautiful daughters, to the unimaginable strength you showed in facing your late-stage cancer diagnosis with grace + courage. You lived life with an unparalleled passion, infusing every moment with love, creativity & joy. Your kindness radiated through every room, guitar strumming filled your girls’ hearts with melody, & your brutally honest written words resonated deeply within us all.

You were a gifted storyteller & photographer weaving tales of adventure from travels, embracing every new experience with open arms & curious spirit. You took us through all of you innermost thoughts & feelings from your diagnosis, treatments, losing your dad, glimmers of hope and ultimately the acceptance of your fate.

When we met 6ish years ago at Floris, you came to pick up flowers to surprise Rachel at her bridal shower. We hit it off instantly. You were bursting at the seams with passion & elation to be marrying the love of your life. We talked about the beautiful wedding you both had planned, our shared love of international food, travel and mostly how incredible Rachel was. In the coming months & years, I watched you move to Italy, get a dog, settle into your Toronto home, have your first child, bury your dad & then the cancer…

Your presence since that summer day we met has been a gift, a reminder to savor each precious moment & to find beauty in even the simplest of things. I am in disbelief of all that has happened since 2018.

Rachel, Riley and Sadie - I have no words. Lorne fought with all his heart to stay with each of you, battling harder than anyone could. I’m sorry cancer took him away and for the profound void that his departure leaves in your lives. His legacy of love and resilience will continue to shine brightly through you, beautiful girls.

Rest in peace, dear friend. You will be deeply missed, but your light will forever shine bright in our memories, through your beautiful R, R & S - a testament to a life lived with passion and purpose. ✨
