You’ll leave with your creative cup full and with a beautiful fresh centrepiece of local flowers and foliage to display in your home in a ceramic vessel that you can continue to design in and use for many years to come.

When two worlds collide. Sustainability and floral design. It can be counter intuitive, but floral design in a traditional, usual sense is highly complex industry, responsible for a fair share of waste that affects climate change.

I hope others see that beauty can be sustainable- sustainability is not a trend, but a core value from which beautiful things can arise. No one needs to choose between caring for the environment and enjoying beauty. Compromises don’t need to be made in order to make a difference. There are so many thoughtful solutions that do exist in this industry, and we hope to continue to showcase those while putting in the time and effort to find more solutions. We hope others see it as a place to be inspired to do the same in their own lives.

A new inquiry in the inbox is where the excitement begins.

A conversation begins and so does a relationship. We love getting to know our client, while talking about ideas and inspiration: slowing down to hear what’s being hoped for amidst the details, requests, and questions.

With that new relationship and those ideas, we take it a step further and begin to connect with local flower farmers. We get to learn from the experience and knowledge of the farmers, while getting to know both the Earth and one another. Story #1: Flower Farming with Rachel

A conversation with Rachel, the owner and head farmer of River and Sea Flowers is always inspiring. You’ll find full interview on our blog, but here’s a question I keep asking myself and Rachel’s answer lifted me up.

🌾 How do you find hope to persevere toward net-zero goals in your workplace?

“Knowing that we are in a unique position to actively sequester carbon is great motivation. We’ve been working towards using more low and no till techniques at the farm, which helps to sequester carbon in the soil. Planting perennial crops and hedgerows is also really rewarding. We get to watch wildlife using it for habitat and forage, as well as watching the growth of these plants take off. Adding this carbon to our soil also improves soil biodiversity and the conservation of soil moisture, which in turn helps us to have more resilient plants. We’re excited to work more on carbon sequestration in the future.”

When the studio begins to fill with flowers, just days before the wedding begins, something special happens.

Flowers from local farms and foraged blooms from the garden combine into an eye-catching array. Fragrance fills the air, colours flow from one bloom to another, and the anticipation builds as we begin to process and prepare the flowers to be ready for design. By the end of the preparation, flowers are ready, greens waste is composted, and any paper and rubber bands that held the bunches together are piled and saved to be reused again.

Here’s a quick overview of our zero-waste process with SUBSCRIPTION bouquets, in case you were curious or wanted to hear some ideas on what florists could do to reduce waste.

Our online subscription model enables us to buy the exact number of flowers we need = no need to always use energy for a flower cooler + no extra flowers going to waste!

Reuse everything:
-we return wholesale plastic sleeves and elastic labels to the market to reuse, recycle the rest of the packaging through zero waste centres in Vancouver greater area, and reuse all other elastics again + again for our own designs!

Intentional Details: we protect our flowers with compostable paper, and high quality ribbons to reuse again and again, and we are committed to repurposing any ribbons returned to us! See the slides

Delivery Model:
- we transport our bouquets in water, ready to be transferred to your vase! No need for single use water pouches. Btw, we provide you with a vase when you subscribe!
- we deliver on limited days & in geographic grouping to eliminate excess pollution from extra driving.

We source local flowers and flowers from California as a priority:
to reduce carbon emissions from flowers shipped by the planes, support local and guarantee fresh flowers!
