For the past few weeks my sister () and I have been quietly celebrating behind the scenes, but today we have news to share with you all! We are now the proud owners of MERSEY CROSS () - a mobile event bar company specializing in creating the ultimate cocktail experience. For a family who loves parties and cocktails, it was a natural fit!

Obviously buying a business during COVID-19 has proven to be a little more difficult than expected. Thankfully I have an awesome business partner to balance the highs and lows we've already experienced! And honestly, it has been a blessing in disguise because it has given us time to learn the behind the scene systems and intricacies in running a bar company. The news became official on April 17, the day before the business' 3rd birthday. We are continuing to work with the company's founder in a consulting role, along with the amazing team he had put together. Very soon, we hope to have the opportunity to work with even more collaborators and creatives as we grow the brand.

We are extremely excited for the future. We love Mersey Cross and look forward to continuing in the tradition of providing Southwestern Ontario with exceptional service and delicious crafted cocktails! Cheers friends!

This is 41. Like so many other people, Corona Virus has certainly slowed life down. Probably more than any of us had originally imagined. Tomorrow will be two months for me in isolation. Thankfully it's not quite as intense as it was in early March. This weekend kicked off birthday festivities with a porch visit with my sister and today was a porch lunch with my Mom and a dear friend - and a surprise drive-by serenade! I've had special notes and gifts and flowers show up on my doorstep and each of them have made me feel so loved! Quarantine has been full of ups and downs, and there have been a lot of life lessons shining through. So this year, my gift to myself is releasing myself from the expectations of what I "should have accomplished" or "how far along" I should be at this point in my life. 2020 was filled with a whole ton of plans and then there was a giant PLOT TWIST! Releasing myself of these expectations is not the same as granting myself permission to quit, become discouraged or give up on all the things I'm excited to make happen in this lifetime. Instead, it's merely finding comfort in God's timing and finding purpose in my patience. Deborah, you are not running out of time. You are right where you're supposed to be at this exact moment. So be here. Give thanks for this moment. And breathe.

GIVEAWAY |

It's no secret. I'm in love with love. I always have been. I was three years old when I first proposed and Cinderella was my all-time favourite childhood storybook.

Fast forward to adulthood and I have had the privilege of being a part of so many love stories as I help couples plan their dream day. In fact, later this year Epiphany Events & Design will be celebrating it's TEN YEAR anniversary!

Taking the LEAP into entrepreneurship was scary at first, but so many people have helped me turn my dream into a reality along the way, which is why I love to pay it forward!

I try to do one pro bono every year.

Typically the couple is referred to me by someone I know but I don't have a couple selected yet for the 2020 season.

So, to celebrate Leap Day and our 10 year anniversary, I'm giving away this year's full planning service to one lucky Instagram follower!!

Entering is easy:

1. Repost this photo.

2. In your caption, just share your heart. I want to hear about your love story, why you are such a great couple and how you envision your big day.

3. Tag .events in your post and use the hashtags

4. Leave a comment below and tag a person who'll be your supporter and cheerleader leading up to the wedding day.

5. Post a story highlighting your biggest wedding day wish - be sure to tag us again!

6. Please do not submit for other people and please do not e-mail your submissions to me separately, they will not be considered.

Submissions will be accepted through Saturday March 14th until midnight EST and the recipients will be announced the evening of Sunday March 15th.

Remember if your account is private we can't read your submission!

Good luck and happy Leap Day!

Hey you! Yeah, you - the one reading this. You matter. Not only that, but you are ENOUGH...just as you are! Sometimes it's easy to forget that as we scroll through the highlight reels of social media.

There are going to be times when it's harder than others - and I promise you that it will be tempting to pull away from the people that care about you and try to hide. Please hear this though - you matter. You are important. Your mental health and well-being are important.

I've found that January seems to be a fairly common time to jump into discussions about self-care and mental health. And today is Day - a great way to prompt dialogue and get a conversation going.

The conversation around mental health is one that should be happening year round though. So check-in on those around you. Check-in on your own mental health and well-being. By doing this we can help erase the stigma associated with mental health conditions.

Let's keep the conversation going.

Sugar cookies and champagne - two of my favourite things! And these beauties from do not disappoint!

2019 was filled with highs and lows and Chris and I are are excitedly looking ahead to 2020! We've been daydreaming about a few things for a little while and we are excited to FINALLY put a plan in to action! How about you - got any big goals or plans laid out for 2020?

As for tonight, our plans are very low key. Our dates for the night are one cute puppy and a nine-going-on-nineteen year old who has begrudgingly agreed to a game night with us. There is a bottle of champagne and a cheese plate to be had, but this girl has a feeling she'll be the only one awake when the clock strikes twelve!

Welcome to November! One of the coziest months of the year as autumn transitions to winter; where we pack away all things Halloween and prepare to usher in Christmas!

November is also a special month as it is aka "National Novel Writing Month" 📚. I don't know if I've ever shared this on Instagram, but writing is something else that I love, but sadly don't always take time for. NaNoWriMo gives me 30 days where I set aside time everyday to write. It's the perfect time for me because it's after wedding season has wrapped but before the craziness of Christmas! 🎄

The photo of the books is also perfect for today because I discovered that the "2019 Reader's Choice Awards" winners for the have been posted!
I am happy to announce that Epiphany Events and I have been awarded the Platinum award, so thank you all for your votes! It really was an honour just to be nominated and was lovely to reminisce about my younger days and tallying those votes by hand when my Dad was a newspaper publisher!

Most people are familiar with the idea that a bride in a white dress is a symbol of purity, but did you know that many cultures throughout the ages also believe that pearls symbolize purity.

There is also folklore that says that wearing pearls on your wedding day will bring a happy marriage.

So if diamonds aren't your style, pearls are definitely a wonderful option for your wedding day!

This weekend I had the privilege of celebrating the nuptials of and the weekend. This was a special one for me to plan because Ryan and I have known each other for nearly FIFTEEN years! When we had our first meeting late last year, the directive was clear- the happy couple wanted a venue that felt like an extension of home where everyone could eat delicious food, celebrate with crafted cocktails and dance the night away!

Check out my stories for a few sneak peeks into their day and a blog post highlighting their day coming soon!

A few of the projects that I'm currently working on have me spending a lot of time on my laptop and I've noticed that I've been dealing with headaches and eye fatigue more frequently.

It's like my first year of university all over again! I was spending so much time reading that I needed reading glasses. The eye doctor told me that I still had 20/20 vision but that "You wouldn't wear flip flops to run a marathon." Sure, the analogy made sense, but clearly he didn't know me. At that time in my life I was wearing flip flops 365 days a year - rain, sleet, snow, my toes were out for it all!

Now that I'm older and wiser (and make SLIGHTLY better winter footwear choices), I was quick to realize that my eyes needed help. Since these days a majority of my reading is done on a screen (although I do have three paperback novels waiting for me!), I thought that I would give blue light glasses a try. There is currently no proven medical evidence that these type of lenses prevent eye damage and fatigue but online people sing their praises. I didn't want to invest a lot of money on something I wasn't sure would work for me so I just found a cute, inexpensive but well-reviewed pair on Amazon.

I'll keep you updated on my progress, but if rocking these cuties helps me work, sleep and feel better then it's definitely worth a shot!

Depending on the task at hand, I often work best on a couch - even when there's a perfectly good desk nearby. I'm sitting on a couch as I type this in fact!

But that pink couch isn't mine...or Chris' (I wonder if I could convince him we should get one?)! This lovely pink couch belongs to a friend of mine who also works from home.

Throughout our friendship, we've talked about the highs and lows of entrepreneurship - one of the lows being that it can at times be a very lonely and isolating experience. Which is why we made a pact - once a month we have a work date. We get together, we chat a little while we drink our coffees and then we tackle our own work - together, but separate. And honestly, it's always such a refreshing change of pace!

Do you entrepreneurs out there have a secret for maintaining balance and avoiding isolation? I'd love to hear your tricks!

For so much of the summer I longed for more friends with pools. It's selfish, I know. I am a water baby at heart and wished that more of my 100 days of summer could have been spent wading in to cool blue, refreshing pools.

When .one.nut and I look at real estate listings, I always get excited when one with a pool fits the bill - Felix too! Although his dream is a pool AND somewhere he can play tennis/basketball!

Just before Labour Day, as summer was winding to a close, , , some other lovelies and I discovered that you can get a day pass to the pool at Genius! We also learned that you can get monthly memberships as well! I'll have to keep that in mind for next summer...unless of course one of my nearest and dearest ends up with a pool of their own!

To smash or not to smash? That is the question!

It used to be that couples would feed each other cake from a fork. There's no real significance to the act, merely an intimate moment shared with family and friends.

But add in nerves and the awkwardness of feeding your love in front of a crowd and hands tend to get a little bit shaky. It should come as no surprise that more than a few lip stabbings happened which is why I believe the tradition moved to finger feeding.

I don't know when the smashing started taking place, but there are theories that the manner in which the couple smashes is good predictor of whether or not their marriage will end in divorce. Imagine that!

So if you do decide to smash, make sure that it's done with playfulness, love and respect!

Wax seals are another personal favourite of mine. I got my first stamper as a gift from almost fifteen years ago, but wax seals have been used since the Middle Ages. At first they were a way to authenticate documents, but now they are more of an aesthetic detail than a functional one. Wax seals can add such a special touch to your invitations and other wedding stationary like programs, menus or place cards.

Beth's wedding invites also taught me a lesson that is often overlooked when couples choose to use wax seals. They will most likely affect the amount of postage required to send each of your wedding invitations. This is usually because your suite will be pushed over the weight limit for standard envelops. Also, the wax seal makes too thick and delicate to be processed by machine. Instead, each piece is hand processed by postal workers, which requires additional postage.

The seals pictured are professional grade wax seal stickers from and are the perfect addition to any invitation suite!

Dear friends got engaged over the holiday weekend and I couldn't be happier for them! I shall withhold their identities because I wouldn't want to out them to friends and family who may not be in the know yet.

Their special news made me realize that we are about to enter in to engagement season (yes that's really a thing)! The glorious time from Thanksgiving to New Year's when love is in the air and the gents are down on bended knee!

What's your proposal story? I'd love it if you lovelies took a minute or two to share!

Summer is winding down. The kids are back to school later this week (at least here in Ontario). Before you know it we'll be sipping Pumpkin Spice Lattes and weddings will begin to morph into deeper autumnal tones.

So today as we welcome September, I'm going to take a moment to relish in the airy and bright tones of summer.

ORANGE NUT - orange filbert cake, espresso ganache and cocoa buttercream
ALMOND - almond sponge, Niagara honey buttercream, pistachios, sea salt
