Haven't posted in a LONG time! That's because we have been busy with gearing up for the physical location of and all the "behind the scenes" things that need to be done for a small start up business! It's taken a while with typical construction delays and many other obstacles 😓 But hey, we are getting there and we can't wait for you to see what we have to offer! 😊 Soon we will resume our social media activities and do a lot more cross postings. In the meantime, thought we would share our yummy dinner tonight. Braised Brisket and Mac & Cheese! 🤤😋

Between surgery/recovery, work, and the new business set up in the last few months, I haven't had time to do any baking. To be honest, this Christmas approached so fast that I felt like I couldn't and didn't put any effort into anything at all. Our X'mas dinner dessert was a day-before decision, hoping that I could just "wing it". I guess it turned out not too bad. Individual Pavlovas filled with whipped cream and topped with mixed berries, cherries, pomegranate, and pistachio macarons.

Love these "one pot" dinners. We are using one huge beef shoulder, splitting it in half to do 2 dishes. Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup in the instant pot, and Pot Roast in the slow cooker.
Easy dinner taken care of!

We have been cooking up a storm in our kitchen, taste testing and finalizing our menu for Philipp'n Italian!
"Vota Vota" (in Sicilian language, meaning to turn and to fold), is essentially a stuffed bread. Chef Peter has perfected his nonna's recipe, using fennel sausages, sun-dried tomato, spinach, garlic, basil, parsley, and homemade dough to create this beautiful and delicious Vota Vota.
It is great as finger food or appetizer at a party or a main dish served with a salad.

When you trim the dome shape top of a cake off, what do you do with it? 🎂
My husband Iikes to eat it plain, or dice it into cubes, put them in a bowl, pour milk over them and eat it like a bowl of cereal! (Weirdo...😜)
I cube them and put them in the freezer. They make excellent last minute desserts such as trifles with layers of yogurt (or whipped cream) and fruits! 🍓🫐🍑🥭🍨

Buwan and Flavoured Journey have teamed up and created a new brand -
We are called the Philipp'n Italian!
Chef Faye and Chef Peter have known each other for many years. They have worked together at a restaurant setting and on other occasions. They both share the same passion for cooking good food and enjoy bringing their childhood memories and their culture into their dishes.
By creating a new brand, we are hoping to expand our creativity and clientele, further spreading our love for delicious food! Stay tuned on bigger announcements and our venture together.
In the mean time, our parents' companies will continue to serve you as usual. Check out our IG's and we will be cross-tagging both brands! 🥰😋

Chef likes to buy whole beef tenderloins and cut them himself. The center, bigger diameter piece is often used for Beef Wellington. The smaller, more tapered ends can be cut into even-sized pieces for Filet Mignon. The odds and ends can be sliced or diced for stir-fries.
Tonight we have the ultimate leftover-makeover dish, created from a mishmash of ingredients we have in the fridge! Small piece of beef tenderloin cut into medallions, cooked to medium rare. Leftover mashed potatoes coated with bread crumbs and turned into crispy mashed potato cakes. Roasted cherry tomatoes, cremini mushrooms, and onion relish. Served with creamy pasta. 😋🍽

Our Father's Day dinner this evening-
Grilled Ontario Peach salad, with mixed greens, crumbled feta, and walnuts.
Rib Eye steak, served with warm Mediterranean Orzo Pasta.

In Chinese medicine, we believe that the body needs to be in harmony and the flow of "qi" should be good to provide sufficient blood and nourishment to all the organs. When we feel that the energy is low, when we have digestive issues or need to recover from any illness, or simply to "clean" our system, we make congee. It is made by boiling rice in large amount of water/stock, until the rice is broken down into a porridge-like consistency. It can be served plain with side dishes or we add ingredients such as meat, fish, veggies and common spice such as ginger. It provides "warmth" to organs such as stomach, kidney, and spleen to support good "qi" function. It is the ultimate Chinese comfort food, much like Chicken Noodle Soup in the Western culture. 🥣😌😋
Here we have a Congee, made with chicken stock, chicken meat, diced carrots and corn, topped with fresh salmon roe, goji berries, and green onions.

Soft shell crab 🦀 is only in season for a limited time. This was one of my favourite dishes chef made when he worked at the seafood restaurant. Now, I can have it at home 😉😋

On this Mother's Day, we are doing a light and tasty Mediterranean Sea Bass (Branzino). Whole baked in the oven, with fresh dill, thyme, and lemon.
