First album in six years from Devon musician Small Town Jones.
KINTSUGI launch to be held over three nights in Barnstaple’s historic Bridge Chambers Hall.
Beautiful things break. You can look at the cracks and repairs when it’s put back together as flaws, or you can see them as part of the story; scars telling their own tale. It’s the philosophy of the Japanese art of kintsugi (“golden joinery”), and also the creative faith behind the first album in six years from Devon musician Small Town Jones.
“This album has been a long time in the making and brings together 6 years of fragments of ideas, life experiences and ups and downs that have been brought together to make Kintsugi” explains singer-songwriter Jim Jones “It’s been wonderful to work collaboratively with such talented artists, musicians and friends and I can’t wait to share it with my home crowd at Bridge Chambers in May”.
Singer-songwriter Jim’s new album Kintsugi is a collaboration with long-time friend, drummer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Michael Reed. Alongside them is Jim’s ever-present and inspiring guitar foil Dave Little (Jim, Mike and Dave all met at college) with additional instrumentation from David Smale on double bass and Rebecca Balzani Barrow on violin.
To mark the launch of Kintsugi, Beaford Arts is organising three nights of special events hosted at Barnstaple’s hidden gem, Bridge Chambers, which features in the accompanying music video for the album track, The Mist and the Light.
A major Cultural Development Fund project will see Bridge Chambers undergo significant renovations over the next two years, as it prepares to take on a more dynamic role in the cultural life of Barnstaple and North Devon. But in its present unrestored state, the wonderful Bridge Hall is the perfect backdrop to the Kintsugi album’s themes.
Each night will be different as special guests join Small Town Jones in celebrating the album launch, including Jim’s previous producer Peter Bruntnell. Declared by Rolling Stone as one of “one of England’s best kept musical secrets” Peter features on the album and will playing a guest set on the Saturday night.
Playing a special set on the Thursday night will be internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter duo Sound of the Sirens, whose vocals feature in the album track Safe and Sound. And ceramic artist Taz Pollard, who created the stunning Kintsugi heart that features on the album cover, will be exhibiting her work across all three nights.
The three performances will take place at Bridge Chambers, Barnstaple on 23/25/26 May. Tickets cost £18/15 and booking is essential as numbers are limited.
