Mothers 1968-1971 the home of good sounds Mothers was voted the number one live music venue in the world by American Billboard Magazine. I was It was that and much more.

Described by Americas "Billboard" Magazine as "The best rock venue in the world", Mothers had a national and international reputation as being " The home of good sounds" . The list of bands that played at Mothers looks like the ultimate line-up of British and American rock music. Pink Floyd recorded live tracks for their 'Ummagumma' album and possibly the 1st live performance of 'Tommy' by the Who

was at Mothers. Originally the club was called The Carlton Ball Room but on the 6th October 1963, it was re-launched by a new management team. Eventually, on Friday 9th August 1968, it was renamed Mothers to reflect the changing trend in music towards Progressive Rock Bands. The club finally closed on Sunday 3 January 1971.
