We are looking for Community DMs! 🥳

I know I have already spoken to a few of you already but this is a call to action! Grab your D&D books, dice and DM screen and get ready to introduce old and new players alike to the chaos of your imagination. 🤯

Whether it is a dungeon crawler, a monster of the week or a story you have been writing for the past 5 years. Bring it to Geek Retreat Bristol, find your party and see where the story takes you.

We are looking for DMs to run one-shots on Tuesday and Thursday evenings so that the community can meet each other and get to know one another and we can introduce new players to the game.

All of our Community DMs receive 2 free drinks and a meal for each session they run. They also have first dibs on any limited edition alt art covers we have access to.

There is no big commitment from you to run each week. how it works is we will ask all of the Community DMs if they would like to run something that week and if they do, let us know and we will advertise your game and find your players.

Our Community DMs will also have access to the DM Chat in discord where we will organise the tables each week and also where you can discuss ideas and ask for help and advice amongst yourselves without the prying eyes of your players! 🤣

It is finally here, after a bit of time building the server it is ready to share with you all. 🥳

We have tried to make sure that everybody in the community has a space to be heard but just in case we have forgotten something or you think we can make the server even better, we have included a feedback section for anyone that would like to add their suggestions.

What a whirlwind the past 4 weeks have been, from getting the keys to renovating the space in 2 weeks to having the doors open for the first 2 weeks meeting everyone from the community.

Here is what the weekly event schedule is shaping up to be, there may be some amendments to this as we go as we are still finding our feet but here it is.

We are still waiting on stock/organised play approval for a few of the games so while this is happening there won't be an entry fee on the following games and will be casual play sessions:

Just want to say a massive thank you to all of the community that has taken the time to come and meet us at the store and supported us over the past 2 weeks. We wouldn't be there without you and I hope we get to meet even more of the community in the next few weeks too.

Hello everybody! My name is Liam and I am the new owner of Geek Retreat Bristol. I opened my first Geek Retreat store in Newport back in April 2022 and we have been able to build an amazing community that has become a family there. We want to be able to bring a community space back to Bristol after the unfortunate closure of the store there.

I grew up in and around Newport and later in life, I spent a lot of time in Bristol after a few of my friends went to UWE to study and my brother moved to Clifton to live. I’m passionate about opening Geek Retreat stores as I have seen first hand how the stores become like a second home to the community. How it becomes so much more than just the games. It is the friendship, the camaraderie and the sense of belonging that they give people.

From conversations I’ve had with a few of you over the weekend, I know a lot of you think that this is a way of riding the coat tails of the previous owner and making a quick buck. I’m here to assure you that nobody is here to take anything away from the previous owner and what they done for the community during their time of owning Geek Retreat Bristol, they have obviously built a lot of trust and respect from all of you.

Geek Retreat is and always will be for me a passion project. This is in no way a quick cash grab like some of you seem to think it is. I’ll openly tell you that I haven’t taken a salary from the Newport store since we opened. All the profit we have made has been reinvested in the store to grow the community and invest in new games etc.

I'm excited about the investment in new stock and games, and I'm committed to looking after and growing the communities that make Geek Retreat special.

I know that there is a lot of animosity within the community at the moment because of the misinformation a lot of you have been told by the previous owner, and I understand why there is so much bad blood towards Geek Retreat Head Office in particular because of this.

To clear up any misunderstanding and to give you some history on what transpired and why the store closed; the landlord did in fact try to sell the property on the basis that Geek Retreat Bristol would remain where it was under its existing lease – this is why you would have seen for sale signs on the property.

The landlord was not able to find a buyer and made the decision to take the property off the market. So I can confirm that the property was not sold as you may have been told and this was not the reason for the store closing.

The reason Geek Retreat Bristol had to close, was down to the fact that it was no longer financially viable for it to remain open under the previous owners and the only people responsible for this were the previous owners.

And don’t get me wrong, Head Office isn’t perfect… and no business is, we all make mistakes from time to time. I can tell you for free that I butt heads with them all the time and if for a second I thought they were doing anything nefarious in any way I certainly wouldn’t be taking the personal risk to open another store. I can assure you that they do in fact have the best intentions for both their store owners and theirs communities at heart.

We are hoping to reopen the store on Saturday the 27th July and we hope you can all be there to celebrate with us.
