It’s been a very busy few days creating these costumes!

I struggled to find what I needed from all deadstock sources on this occasion - who are your go to deadstock sources?

Brief: create 3 different sized costumes of the same design from 3 provided reference pictures in 1 week.

Next stop box, electrics & lighting, then moving in proper!

My new studio is in a fascinating place, and I’m thrilled to be surrounded by creative folk again. 🤩

I’ve also been working on repurposing some theatre costumes for a Christmas production. 💖

CLEARING OUT THE CLUTTER!

It’s a jumper & a coat…

It’s two items from a HUGE collection of garments & shoes that have barricaded me into my bedroom. Two items that I’m keeping.

The final pile, after I literally cried over parting with my shoes, was the hardest. Unless I had THREE good reasons to keep them they were going into the bag & out of here.

In ‘22 I broke my ankle after being accidentally pushed over by someone disembarking a boat. 🤦‍♀️ Sadly my ankle never fully recovered & most of my heels have now left the building.

Apart from some - that may have had ONE good reason to keep. 😉 ‘Take them from me & I’ll kill you’. 🤣 Next level love, memories & joy just looking at them all rolled into fierce attachment.

Most of the items I had purchased from charity, eBay, borrowed from my existing stock, been gifted, only few had been bought new - they were mostly shoes. So back they go into the cycle. ♻️🌍

Sustainability is at the ❤️ of what I do.

What do you do to be more sustainable?

Here’s some of the things I do:
• save and categorise textiles/fabrics that are not used in the construction process
• design with no or minimal waste
• design to include textiles/fabrics offcut from other designs
• design with modularity & transseasonality
• design for size fluctuations

This is not an exhaustive list - but as you can see, a lot of it stems from the design process.

I still have a long way to go, and my focus on achieving a fully sustainable business is aided by further ongoing training.

Next month I am taking part in the FREE Skills Bootcamp in Organisational Sustainability.

There are so many valuable free assets out there to help your business and practice become most sustainable.

The end of an era!

I made my last post on the this week, and on the 17th September I handover to the new committee.

I’m so grateful to everyone who supported us over this past year, and I’m so grateful to every member of the committee and the society. 🙏

Looking forward to seeing where the new committee take it!
