The Baton Of Hope is coming to Cardiff on 1st July!
is a su***de awareness and prevention initiative designed to open up necessary conversations and prompt appropriate actions through a relay walk. Their specially designed baton will tour UK towns and cities for two weeks in Summer 2023.
The Baton’s Cardiff journey will commence in Bute Park alongside the River Taff. It will take a circular route, broadly following the annual half-marathon course through iconic locations across the city; and will be supported by politicians and councillors, the emergency services, port and maritime authorities, and professionals working in education, mental health, su***de prevention and wellbeing. And, most importantly, many members of the South Wales public.
If you would like to join us, we will be at Roath Recreation Ground from 2.30pm - 4pm on July 1st.
Last year, sadly, more than 6,300 people in the UK took their own lives. Globally, the annual figure is as high as 800,000.
Together we can reduce the stigma, get better at asking questions, listening, and directing people to the right help.

Ten years ago, this man was homeless. He was sleeping on the floor of an industrial unit where he worked - and only had a bucket to wash in. “I was a proud man,” he said. “I didn’t want nobody to know… Most nights, I’d just sit in town speaking to rough sleepers and when the sun came up, I came into work.” He eventually hit rock bottom and drove to the Severn Bridge, leaving a goodbye message on his phone as he walked to the edge. But, at that moment, his dog barked from inside the car. It startled him and he instantly thought; ‘What am I doing?’ Now, ten years later, that man is turning the same industrial unit where he used to sleep into a ‘community village’ - which will see shipping containers turned into a base for skills workshops, local businesses, a repair cafe, and wellbeing gardens.
