Wow! Definitely back to Yorkshire reality!

This morning’s dark skies and rain is definitely a shock, we’ve gone from beautiful Scottish blue skies and sun to persistent rain! Normally the other way round in our experience 😂 but what was a lovely surprise was the abundance of bright flowers still growing in the garden despite the battering. It’s definitely been a slow first year growing solo, lots of lessons and proud moments, think I might start growing veg too, I’ve really missed being able to pick my own, there’s nothing better.

Autumn Equinox 🍂

A time to reflect on the blessings and lessons of the year, and to express gratitude for the harvest and other things in life

My favourite place in Scotland, as far as the road takes you, up a different part of the Glen, lies a stunning waterfall with deep pools where this little man swam to his heart’s content last Summer when I wished then that I was brave enough to join him. So much has happened since then with many lessons and heartache but to be able to pause from life, finally have a week’s break, in what has been the sunniest, lightest and fun time in the Highlands - priceless.

As was taking that plunge this year with him 💦bloody freezing, but amazing, thanks to the breathing expertise learned from I did it!!! No photographic evidence needed, it will stay with me forever 🫶🏻

What’s my favourite thing to create?

Natural floral design totally makes me happy 🌿 the wilder the better, this is the essence of Florence & Wild, a design that shows a flower or greenery how it grows in nature with its natural curves and uniqueness.

I also adore colour and adding little pops here and there to give it my signature style.

This stunning hanging install and table setting was created mainly with foraged foliage and hints of autumn added so beautifully at Retreat last year. My heart was full when I saw the brief for this design.

And just like that…..Autumn 🍂

I’ve had a little break this weekend with the family being deafened we had a great time, it’s been hot, then rained, been attacked by wasps, screamed ‘till we went faster on the waltzers 🤢🤣 and my highlight having my photo taken with transformer Bumblebee 🐝 A much needed change to prepare us for our upcoming holiday.

So, today I’ll be catching up, checking up on the garden later and judging by this morning’s darkness and posts on here, we’ve officially moved towards the next season.

Here’s a gorgeous low bowl full of Autumn wonder, to celebrate. I do love this season, the colours, the richness and all the beautiful florals, how about you?

‘Something nice & Autumnal with gorgeous dahlias’

This scrumptious collection had an impressive addition of a beautiful sunflower🌻 as a little nod to summer before we go into the depths of Autumn.

I planted some of these along with the colossal ‘Dads’ version, they’re just about peeping, along with the Cosmos and sweet peas that have been flowering for the past few days. Everything in my garden is late but it’s all part of the journey 🌿

After a busy few weeks I’m looking forward to a little respite and my first holiday of the year to my favourite place 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 that I adore at this time of year.

Soft, romantic, blush pinks

A subtle touch of pink, those gorgeous menta and quicksand roses plus a whimsical collection of delicate seasonal flowers, for Hayley & Ian’s special day. Little pops of wild as you’d expect from Florence & Wild to complement the theme 🌿

It was my first time at and it’s such a gem of a place with fabulous staff running everything like clockwork, what a team!

Test driving pockets 🌿

These fiddly, fun, flowery pocket squares are an absolute delight to create, of course we have to give them the sturdy test drive first to make sure they’re snug and can withstand the day ahead.

The first pic was my lovely flower friend’s creation full of colour, fit perfectly in my dungaree pocket and passed the ‘snug test’.

I love them, they’re like a mini collection of the Bridal bouquet, a perfect match.

Attention to detail 🌿

If ever a vision was perfectly matched to a Venue, then this was it.

I had the absolute pleasure of freelancing for Karon at this stunning place. I can totally see why the couple chose the Venue and all the creatives collectively, oozing with English charm and elegance and pure professionalism of everyone involved.

Behind the scenes you also get an insight to the absolute hard work, perfectionism and respect of everyone and how each person has a unique and important role to play. It takes a team to create a beautiful Wedding Day and I for one, was 100% impressed, attention to detail goes a mile in my book…. plus the fact that front of house remembered how I took my tea from the day before and how I devoured a packet of wotsits kindly given by when we were finished, exhausted but happy. Absolutely Bob on. It’s the little things that mean a lot.

My new favourite weirdo 🌸

Not mine this time but lovingly grown at I can’t remember what she’s called but I always love it when I receive a surprise bloom in my wedding buckets. I love it’s spiky underside with tiny pastel pink fluffiness on top 🌸 or ‘spiky pale pink floweranium’ as she is now known!

It’s a misconception that Florists know every type of flower, do you know every kind of ingredient that goes into your perfume? Probably not. You just know it suits you and you get complimented as it smells so nice.

Having a great relationship with a flower farmer means just that, Meryl’s flower knowledge is vast and she knows what my flower ‘fit’ is, guaranteeing some ooohs and ahhs on your Day.

Floral style 🌿

Never one to conform or replicate, what is my floral style? ‘I will always be wild’

I’ve been doing lots of soul searching recently and I was on the tip of calling it a day, people just baffle me with expectations and disloyalty and outright rudeness. It’s hard work running your own business, navigating what is your dream with the reality of actually earning a living and being proud of what you create and a chain that can be undone in a fleeting moment.

I’m going to be blunt. Don’t come to me if you don’t love my style, I will politely decline. Don’t send me an enquiry and never respond to my reply, I will remove your ghosting. Don’t expect me to do anything for free.

I am unapologetically me, I love what I create, I love working with beautiful flowers, I love working with other unapologetically unique creatives who stand firm in their beliefs too. Loyalty and trust is everything to me.

I will be totally transparent, genuine, passionate and honest about what I can and cannot achieve, I have always worked like this - what you see is what you get, thankful to my Yorkshire working class routes.

So….. back to my style, expect colour, expect texture, expect a just gathered natural look and lots of beautiful and sometimes unusual florals and lots of ‘wild’

Here’s lovely Karon a true inspiration and fellow trained Florist, specialising in Weddings and Workshops based in North Yorkshire. I love freelancing for her, her palette and flower choices are absolutely stunning! It’s so important to learn and grow in this industry, I still find it crazy to see venues sticking to the same packages and traditions, just because it’s ‘easy’, with so much choice on offer, so many flower choices, so many British growers, stylists and clever creatives, you can totally have a day that’s going to be unique for you 🌸

Have you ever thought, I wished I’d have done something different?

If you’ve seen my stories today, you’ll see a very private part of me that I vowed to not bring to this page, it’s human nature but people view you differently if you’re a Widow. Hey ho.

10 years ago today I married my soulmate and best friend, who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness just 3 months earlier in April ‘14. I was more bothered about supporting him than the finer details of getting married and organised it in 3 weeks.

My flowers were ordered from a very traditional florist and my (very unhelpful) request was, ‘Just greenery and white with a bit of sparkle to match my dress’ - we had no colour scheme, no bridesmaids just a very intimate wedding at the beautiful

So they delivered what I asked, Cala lily, rose, fern and bling in a very traditional tight posie and foam filled candelabras with huge white hydrangeas for the long table - things that I totally don’t associate with now.

So today, I gathered from the flower garden and created a little anniversary bouquet and buttonhole to remind me just how far I’ve grown. (I love how the suns rays are beaming on the first image).

I love sharing the beauty of flowers, I get really passionate describing their individual stems, wobbly bits, aromas and overall wildness.

To capture their essence is something of a challenge especially when you work alone, just having that extra pair of hands to hold a bouquet, to faff, to adjust, to create perfection is great, or you can use a mirror!!

The joy of flower crowns 🌿🌸🫶

Had the most wholesome afternoon with some potential apprentices I totally forgot what it’s like to be 8 year old, you were all absolutely amazing girls & boys, remember to send me pics of your sunflowers!!🌻

We talked about sustainability (was totally impressed at the knowledge of said subject ‘It’s about making less impact on the environment’ said one bright little button 🌿♻️

We talked about working as a Florist, Weddings, Funerals, flower types, flower growing, bugs, caught a few tiny spiders and all did the ‘smell the mint’ test.

We talked about naughty Frank 🐾

And mostly had lots of fun learning how to play with flowers, thank you so much for inviting me to your beautiful school.

Bit late in the day, it’s apparently so, hiya 👋 I absolutely love being a florist and also here I am on the right having an absolutely amazing time freezing my t*ts off in that other shire linked with a red rose, learning old but new breathing techniques and confidence with the beautiful soul Kay - the other, yet totally connected side of Florence & Wild - you can’t have one without the other.

It’s also and the love of my life is sharing this with me. Without this beautiful human I would not have had the confidence to start my journey with 🙏🫶it’s her birthday tomorrow and I wanted to say, I absolutely love you Cathy to the moon and back, looking forward to many more days like this ❤️

It’s British Flowers Week 🇬🇧

I can’t believe how quickly this has come round again, halfway through the year already. I’m trying my hardest to bring you beautiful flowers grown by me, it’s bloody hard work! Total respect for all British growers, their dedication is immense and totally under appreciated. What I’ve learned so far…

🌿 You can never have too much compost

💦 Rain water is an absolute precious thing

🌱 Not all seeds have the same quality

🤓 My brain can’t cope with all the advice and tips

🙏 I beg my seedlings daily to grow

🥹 I wished I’d helped my Dad more and learned from him

🐾 A springer spaniel was not the greatest choice for a gardening partner

🌻 ‘I’m off for and hour in the garden’ = 12 hours flat of hard graft, wanting to wee, forgetting to drink and not even noticing that it’s got dark 😂

🫶 I potted on my corncockle yesterday, one of my favourites and the flower in my logo, lots of praying to come.

🇬🇧🌺 Try and buy British if you can, behind every bloom is an army of growers who’ve put their heart and soul into every step.

Nigella 🌿

I saw my first homegrown flower yesterday. Feelings of joy and then frowning because the stem is so thin and weak. The Nigella in this design were imported, super sized and incredibly strong, they also cost an absolute fortune and were at the beginning of my floral journey 4 years ago.

Having the luxury of being able to hand pick flowers from my adopted plot of land to add interest and a bit of a wow to my designs is my dream. I’m turning into a bit of a gardening bore but I don’t care 😂

Nigella represents harmony and love.

The flower is a symbol of the bonds that bind people together.

I’ve had a little break from the pressure of posting to social media to concentrate on growing and you know what? Nothings changed. The bond that binds us together continues to do so 🦋

Purple/deep blue anemone were the focal flowers of this casket arrangement, alongside a stunning gathering of Yorkshire flowers and foliage, colourful and beautiful as ever from

I also added my personal touch of the family’s garden roses, my mint and salvia and tiny cardboard pots with bedding plants that can be planted once the fresh flowers are done.

As nature intended 🌿

A beautiful combination of Yorkshire grown bright flowers and foliage. This foam free design was inspired by a country cottage garden and is a style that is my favourite to create.

It’s quite a challenge and a little trial and error selecting flowers that will withstand being placed into moss, the reason why traditional florists use floral foam is it’s ability to retain water and even the finest stems can be inserted.

However, the downside of foam (other than it’s toxicity) is that it’s single use plastic once the stem is placed it’s harder to manipulate to create a natural feel, hence the reason a bed of chrysanthemum is usually used to cover the foam rather than lay flowers how they grow in nature. The base isn’t able to be used again whereas I encourage the moss base to be deconstructed and flowers added again, again and again.

For Dad 🌻 A lovely new customer wanted flowers for his Dad's grave who had recently passed away. We got chatting and he'd taken over his Dad's allotment and was trying his hardest to do him proud. It seemed so inappropriate and especially in this heat that one of my weekend bunches just didn't feel right to me, especially as they were girly pink palettes. So I collected a lovely jar with sunflower, rudbeckia, scabiosa, sea holly, allium sphaerocephalon, dwarf lupin and clary sage instead, so with the exception of sedum and eucalyptus parviflora all homegrown. From one Dad's allotment to another - Flowers with a touch of Yorkshire 💙

Don't think I'll ever forget this 🤪 Starting your own business totally takes you out of your comfort zone. This was me 'trying' to do a serious video to review my experience training with @tallulahroseflowerschool I might be laughing there (think it took 40+ takes with lots of swearing) but I got there in the end. My heart was in serious meltdown as the final submission was shown publicly along with other also nervous students on Instagram, it was scary then felt absolutely bloody great. I felt so proud. Today's Mood 🌿 I'm not feeling that cracking if I'm honest, caught a non covid 🐛 from the plane so after I've finished my heap of washing I'll be pottering in my own garden today 🌞 and taking it easy. I'll open up my shop when I'm 100% Here's a pic of last year's 'flower plot' at my Dad's allotment, we've both learned so much in a year and it's so precious having Dad and Daughter time, hopefully in a couple of days I'll feel well enough to see him in person 🤧 Loving seeing such beautiful British Flowers on my feed too this week 🇬🇧, there's just something that feels more natural, flowing and colourful about British flowers, coupled with the fact that it's more likely that the florists follow sustainable practices which brings me joy #nofloralfoam

🌞 Sunshine in a bunch 🌞 We have our first flowers 💐 😍 ! Beyond excited to see our dahlias, freesia, lime nicotinana and cornflowers included within this bunch. My favourite nigella are almost here, it's just great after all the hard work and love put into growing to see them appear!! Sustainable Farewell Flowers for a lovely lady 🌿💙💛💗 Lots of bright yellows and a touch of blue. British sunflowers, avalanche roses, bright yellow gerbera, solidago, little pops of tanacetum and specs of lysimachia from @gtflowersleeds with stunning foliage supplied by @yff_95 The bingo card is wood fixed with twine onto a mossed living wreath which will be placed on the gravestone when all the main Flowers are recycled. The base is a mossed wooden chitting crate which can be used again. 100% recycled ♻️ 100% foam free. Loved creating this, thank you Paula R for entrusting me x

Good morning people 🤣 another snippet of my fabulous BAFTA performance 🤣🤣 No flowering or Tearoom for me today, I've been invited by @macmillancancer to attend Harrogate Flower Show, I'm a regular donor and they were a massive part of my life in 2014 so it's great to be able to go and share something positive connecting us.
