Bridal prep is such an exciting and special time for a bride to be and it also happens to be one of my favourite times during a wedding day.

I love the excitement, the nervous anticipation as everyone is getting ready for the day’s events. It is always an honour to witness and capture this time for my brides.

So do you need a photographer with you for the whole of the morning?
Only today I was reading that a bride to be was expecting the photographer to arrive at the same time as the hair and make up team, which happened to be 6:45am!
This is absolutely not a good idea and here is why I come to that conclusion.

When you are wake up on the morning of your wedding, are you looking at you best? Do you have your hair styled, do you have polished skin, are you suitably dressed and confident?
Will you be happy to have these moments in your final gallery? Or would you rather have photos where your hair is styled, your make up complete and you are wearing something that makes you feel confident?

You have to remember that your photographer is a stranger to most of your bridal party and having photos taken for most people is anxiety inducing, so why increase that by having them there too early
Do you really want the nervous energy and overthinking that comes when someone is taking photos at a point in the day when you really are not ready?

Having them arrive a few hours ahead of your ceremony start time is more than enough and if you have any concerns, speak to them ahead of the day.

If your energy is high, your guests’ will be too.
What you give out is what you will receive, so be fun and fabulous, it will reflect well on your guests, your overall experience and your photos/video.

Amy & Tom were married mid July at the beautiful .
It was a stunning Summer’s day and everything was perfection for this fabulous couple.

The season’s warmth and extended daylight ensured we were able to get out for some portraits both before and after the wedding breakfast, providing a more diverse portfolio of images for the newlyweds.

It’s not always possible to capture portraits later in the day, especially as the nights draw in, but where possible, allocating some time later in the day, especially when the light is softer and less harsh, will provide more flattering results.

If your wedding is in the Autumn, or Winter and daylight is limited, having 2 hours between the ceremony and wedding breakfast (if all at one location) will help fit everything nicely so that you don’t feel rushed and have the time to spend with your guests.

Ten images from Mr & Mrs Key’s recent wedding at

It was such a beautiful wedding for Callie and James, and despite the very wet weather the couple had the most perfect day.

As always, Swancar Farm provided spacious interior options for photographs during inclement weather, which isn’t always the case elsewhere. This meant that we didn’t have to step outside at all and nothing was lacking.

It was such a special wedding, with this adorable couple!

These recent photographs are from the beautiful bridal preparations for Samantha.

Preparations can be such a special time for a Bride to be. It is certainly one of my favourite elements of the day!

During your preparations I capture so much, including those special details.
I will always begin by capturing the details, including: dress, shoes, perfume, flowers (please try and have them there for my arrival) and any other items that are of sentimental importance to you.

Once these are documented I am then capturing the final stages of make up application and any other moments that are happening.
Once dressed (which I also document), it’s really important to plan time for some portraits.

Timings at bridal prep can easily overrun, so it is a really good idea to have them set out so you know when you need to be complete with hair and make up, and the time you have to be in your dress.

The last thing you want to be ahead of the ceremony is rushed or stressed and being organised will help stop this happening.

What an incredible wedding day at Peak Edge Hotel and Red Lion Restaurant for Bianca & Curtis.

It was such a fun and fabulous wedding for this lovely couple and both Dean and myself had such great day.

Such a wonderful wedding day for Daniel and Sophie recently married at Mosborough Hall Hotel

Blue was the colour, but definitely not the mood, especially considering it was the day when England qualified for the next round of the Euros (but enough of that)!

I also photographed Sophie's Sister's wedding last year and was delighted and honoured to be booked once more and have the opportunity to spend more time with their wonderful family and friends.

This couple were such good fun and thoroughly enjoyed their day at this beautiful venue.

It’s quite normal for me to turn up to a wedding having never met the couple before.
As most of my couples are busy professionals it isn’t always possible to find times in our schedules to meet up and even Zoom can be tricky to organise.

So when you arrive on the day and meet two of the most wonderful individuals, with such a great and positive outlook, you wish they were in your life for more than just one day!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Lee.

The sun was certainly shining down on this couple. After an atrocious week of weather, they were gifted a perfect day.

It was also a please to return to Cuckney House for preparations and then on to Hazel Gap Barn for their wedding ceremony and celebrations.

I bet most people had no idea just how much of an issue it is for photographers and videographers when we are working in some places of worship!

Far too often we encounter extreme hostility whilst trying to do our job and capture precious memories for our couples.

Because of this there is now a movement for change, including a petition that is linked in the original post.

The incredible Rachel London Photography, created this reel with the intention of highlighting just what we would have surely missed if photographers and videographers had been banished to the back of the church, only re emerging to get a 'set up' shot after the ceremony is over..
It's happened for far too long where we as professional service providers have been made to feel unwelcome in certain places of worship. It's certainly not all of them, as I personally have worked alongside some incredible people, but it is becoming more and more apparent, the unease our presence creates for some church officials.

I too have heard the stories of some disrespectful 'ninja' photographers, getting up close, moving around and pulling focus during these sacred moments, and sadly some photographers and videographers do set a bad example, however they are the minority, and the majority of professionals are fully aware of the sanctity of the occasion unfolding before them, remaining discreet and respectful throughout.

So how about we all recognise the times we now live in and the importance of documented moments to preserve all the cherished memories, so together we can strive for change that restores the harmony meaning everyone is happy.🙂

Winter weddings can be tricky for many reasons.
Lack of natural light, bad weather, limited alternate indoor space for photography etc.
However, if I get an enquiry for a Winter wedding at , then 100% i’m all in!

This venue has it all, at any time of the year and in any weather!

More recently Sean and Georgia were married at HGB and yes it was Winter, it was chilly and the light was fading fast, but did this limit any of their photography requests? Hell no! This is because their chosen venue has more than just a picturesque outdoor setting. They have stunning spacious interiors, great natural indoor light and beautiful features that enhance the internal photographic opportunities.

I can’t lie, has always been a favourite since my first visit in 2017 and this is because I know I can always deliver here and meet a couple’s expectations, no matter what the conditions.

So if, like Sean and Georgia you are planning a wedding at the time of year when the weather’s unpredictable and daylight is short, please bear this in mind and check out what alternatives your venue is offering if you are unable to go outside for any photos.

Currently editing the last handful of 2023 weddings, which begins with Rebecca and Matthew at .
