Due to a change of circumstances and after much thought, I have made the decision to close

This Coffin Club will close on 15th August 2024

It’s been an honour sharing valuable information about death and dying.

I hope it’s been useful and that you all feel empowered to make informed choices for your final farewell and that of your loved ones.

🌟Friday Fun Fact🌟

Did you know for the past 12 weeks I have been training with the fabulous from BBC’s Sort Your Life Out?

I’m currently working on my case studies and once they’re done, I will be an Accredited Professional Organiser.🎉😃

I’ve had such an amazing experience working with some fantastic individuals and I’ve learnt so much.

I also really dislike “Let me know if you need anything”🫣

A funeral wish list is not a legally binding document and we all know too well that things don’t always go to plan.💥

But they can be useful in letting your loved ones know what you would like to happen when you die, and what matters to you.💥

I’m super excited to announce that next week I’m off to train as a Professional Organiser.

I’ll be taking a break from my Celebrant work for the next 3 months to pursue this passion of mine.

This has been on my bucket list for such a long time and I finally get to tick it off! ✅🤩🥳

I am so excited and extremely grateful for this amazing opportunity!🙏🏽💙

You don’t have to be a Pallbearer💥

You don’t have to be an Adult💥

You don’t have to be very strong💥

You don’t have to hold the coffin on your shoulders, in fact the coffin doesn’t have to be lifted💥

You could have the coffin placed on a Wheel Bier (a small trolley) and wheel it in instead💥

If you decide you’d like to assist with your person’s coffin, let your funeral professional know and you will be guided through the process on the day of your person’s funeral💥

If you are the only family member who’d like to do this, you will be supported by Pallbearers💥

And on the day of the funeral, if you change your mind and decide you can’t do it, then that’s ok too💥

Ok… so, the day of your person’s funeral arrives.

You suddenly realise that you can’t read the eulogy.

You don’t feel strong enough to stand in front of everyone and read all those words.

It’s ok …🧡

No need to worry.

Because together, before the day of the funeral, we’ll discuss any concerns that you may have.

And on that day, I will be there to hold the space for you and step in, should you need me to.

Or, you may decide to choose a family member or friend to support you.

Either way, you won’t have to do this alone.

Today I had the honour of holding the space for two of my dearest friends and my Godson, as they said farewell to mum, mum-in-law and granny.❤️

Doreen was known for being quirky and I think she had a hand in disrupting the music on the cd player, as we listened to her favourite songs.❤️

That brought a welcome smile and a bit of laughter to this sad occasion.❤️

The sun came out to greet her as she was laid to rest in a place of her choosing, next to her dear mum.🌞

Farewell Doreen, I’m so glad I met you, all those years ago! 🙏🏽❤️

Feeling the grief today, remembering this day 18 years ago, the day my mum died.

I was just 7 weeks away from having my son, my youngest and today I am reminded that he will be 18 in a few weeks time and mum won’t be here to celebrate his milestone!🥹

Mum was the heart of our family, the mum AND the dad to her children!

I’ve heard it said that grief never ends. It doesn’t end, it just changes shape from time to time.

Not sure what that shape is today, but whatever it is, I’m just going to lean into it!

I’m feeling a mixture of joy, sadness and a sentimental yearning to return to those days when life was so simple and carefree, although I didn’t realise how simple they were back then.

But I am also filled with joy and gratitude for what was and what will always be….

I was and I will always be the daughter of one amazing woman, my mum, my queen - aka Miss Gwen! 🙏🏽👑

Thank you for the lessons mum, I’m still learning from you everyday and I’m passing on your wise words to your grandchildren!🙏🏽❤️

You told me to use my voice! I am using it, mum, I am!!🥹

Love you, Mum.🕯️👑

Absolutely!💯 🐾

Dogs are the family we choose.💥

They have that extraordinary ability to sense emotions and their presence at a funeral can provide that extra solace and comfort to family and friends.💥

Personally, I think they deserve to have the opportunity to say goodbye to their owners!💥

Remember, not all venues are dog friendly, so it’s important to do your research if you want your fur baby at your final farewell.💥

Here’s a photo of our mischievous, nosey, crazy, fur baby. Her name is Bonnie and she’s the sort of girl who needs to know what‘s going on all the time and she doesn’t like being left out.💥

I would definitely want my Bonnie to come to my funeral!💥

A living funeral, also known as a pre-funeral is a funeral/celebration of life for someone who is still alive.💥

A living funeral gives families and friends the opportunity to say a personal goodbye to their person, before they die.💥

When someone dies we often hear the phrase…”I wish I had told them..”💥

The living funeral is the perfect opportunity to do just that, “tell them” and express all you want to while they are still alive.💥

There are no rules when choosing to have a living funeral. You can have the party of all parties or you might choose a quiet intimate ceremony.💥

The choice is yours!💥

💕Ｇｒａｔｉｔｕｄｅ💕

Thank you, 2023!🙏🏽

This year I’ve had…

Enough rain to appreciate the sun.💕

Enough sadness to appreciate joy.💕

Enough tears to appreciate laughter.💕

I’ve met some wonderful couples and families through my work as a Celebrant and I am beyond grateful for being chosen to hold space for them in celebrating their love of marriage and the life of a loved one.💕

It really is a huge deal for me to be chosen to be your Celebrant. So, thank you all so much!💕

As always, I’m forever grateful to the hubster Jeremy for looking after me and our family. I couldn’t do what I do without you.💕

And, thank you to my famalam for putting up with my jokes and my dancing! You are the best people on this planet.💕

I have 3 favourite highlights of this year. The first was a mini break abroad with Jeremy, just the two of us. First time on our own in over 20 years of togetherness! 😘💕

Another highlight has been launching the first ever Coffin Club Coffin Club West Northants in Daventry, Northamptonshire. If you haven’t already seen this, go check it out and let me know what you think. 🙏🏽💕

And the greatest highlight this year, has been witnessing a miracle unfold before my eyes, the birth of my beautiful Grandson….!😲💕

It just doesn’t get any better than that!🔥
Thank you, to my amazing daughter Kamilla and to all my Grandchildren!🙏🏽💙

Now, I’m not one for making New Year Resolutions, however, I will remind myself everyday that I am enough, because I am!💕

Suggesting that someone has got to stay ‘strong’ when they are grieving, diminishes their need to take time to heal.💥

I can remember hearing these words a few times after my mum died.💥

I was 34 weeks pregnant at the time and I had no desire to stay strong, it was the last thing I needed to hear.💥

If you are grieving, know that you don’t have to be strong.💥

And if you know someone who is grieving and you’re not sure what to say, that’s ok.💥

Instead, you could show up for them, be present, let them know you care.💥

But please don’t tell them to stay strong.🙏🏽💥

But for those of us who are grieving, there is nothing we crave more than peace and quiet, with time to be still and reflect.💥

It’s absolutely ok not feel ok.💥

So, if you need to, give yourself permission not to celebrate, not to buy gifts or even decorate a Christmas tree.💥

Do what you need to do for You!💥

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a bit of fun and laughter while celebrating the life of your person.💥

Funerals don’t have to be a somber affair.💥

You don’t have to wear black.💥

You could decide to play all their favourite songs or share their funny stories.💥

You might choose to serve their favourite dish of fish and chips with ice cream for dessert.💥

Whatever you decide, if it feels right for your person then it won’t be wrong!💥

Flowers have been a vital part of funerals for over 60,000 years.💥

In ancient times flowers were traditionally used to cover the unpleasant odours of the decaying body.💥

Flowers are a sign of honouring the dead and showing sympathy towards the bereaved family.💥

Flowers also symbolise respect, sympathy and love to the deceased.💥

While flowers can bring a little comfort, it is also important to know that flowers are not compulsory.💥

And it’s absolutely ok if you choose not to have any flowers for your funeral.💥
