We want our community to change for the better!
We aim to create social change by demonstrating that everyone has strengths and skills to offer their world. We want to inspire others to work towards a more sustainable, inclusive community. We all have a calling and a purpose we can serve that provides self-fulfilment.

We aim to help individuals with additional needs develop growth-focused mindsets. We use a mixture of methods that bring about an inner resilience, challenging people's perceptions of themselves and their own capabilities of shaping their world.
By giving a safe and encouraging space individuals can develop themselves without fear of “failure". This way people are not discouraged from trying again if things don't turn out 100% the first time around!

This week we're sharing our four core aims for everyone to get to know what we work towards.
Our first is EQUALITY!
We believe in equality for all. We aim to help individuals with additional needs, and who feel marginalised, to feel more empowered and have increased self-worth.
We believe that everyone has something to contribute and a place to find!

You'll have probably heard that Uppertunity is hosting a formal ball in March of next year! We're really looking forward to this event, and we've spoken to some of our members to see what they're looking forward to!
We are looking to raise funds to help cover the costs, and to help keep ticket prices as low as possible so that cost is not a barrier. Due to the location, we are paying per person, which includes carers. Therefore tickets will need to be purchased for carers as well. The fundraising will help cover this, ensuring this too is not a barrier. Our members will also be part of fundraising activities including a sponsored walk and raffle prizes at our Burns Lunch in January.

So much has happened since our last birthday!
We performed our second play, "The Greatest Show", and Unique Beats began production of a long-form film featuring Gio the alien!
Early in 2023, we converted to a charity.
Serendipities was mentioned in National Geographic's places to eat in Dundee.
In June we took part in Big Garden Open Day, working with Art Night to get people involved in Dundee's Gardens.
To celebrate our progress we held an open-to-all pot luck garden party in partnership with Fighting for Fairness! This included the showing of Unique Beats first short film, Drama Cafe.
Sadly, we had to close our physical shops for Serendipities and ReBoutique in August due to rising costs.
We continue to work towards our mission from our Dudhope Castle base, providing catering and smaller upcycling services in-house. We have also set up a new service for those who wish to gain new skills, called UppSkills!
Thank you for all your support the last 8 years! 🧡
If you would like to be involved with Uppertunity as a client, volunteer, funder or director, please get in touch. We are only able to achieve what we do with the collective support of others!

"I love the fun & laughter at the groups. I enjoy interacting with everyone"
"I've become more capable and I love helping with everything"
"I love meeting my friends. I have a better social life."
"I keep coming back because I get to try new things."
"I've learnt to be proud of myself."

Every week we have a range of therapeutic and creative groups including textiles, recycled crafts and performance arts. Members explore their creativity, build friendships and social skills, and are encouraged to try everything themselves!
We also have our volunteering groups were practical skills such as gardening, cooking, clothes making, light woodwork and event organisation are developed and things made for our mini-cafe, catering and event stalls!
Growing Places, our volunteer gardening project is open to anyone 16+ who wants to get out and involved in Dudhope Castle Gardens! We build large planters, take care of the beds year round and experiment with making the garden a fun sensory experience.
We provide hot food, cakes and barista drinks to the tenants and visitors of The Circle, with the help of our volunteers and clients!
Our catering service provides environmentally conscious food for events of all sizes, and our team can be hired for serving at events. This gives our team and volunteers an opportunity to refine their hospitality skills and gain experience outside of our kitchen.
We will also be organising monthly large social events to bring our community together!
If you are interested in volunteering, or otherwise want to get involved with Uppertunity, get in contact!

As you know, Uppertunity runs Serendipities Café on Union Street & ReBoutique upcycle shop on Castle Street. Costs have been continually going up in the last year, and we’ve had to look at how we can make sure we’re doing what we started out to do. We’ve had to make the difficult decision to close both ReBoutique & Serendipities as of August.
Although we are a charity, we don’t receive funds to run either premises. We’ve tried our very best to cover expenses, but can no longer carry on.
Our priority now is all the people involved at those two locations. We are supporting our staff team through this process and are looking at how we can keep offering meaningful activities to the 40 wonderful volunteers. For some, it will mean losing a routine and safe space, but we’re confident we can regroup and find activities at Uppertunity's main base. Our outside catering service will continue, which was always done in-house at Uppertunity.
Our last day at ReBoutique will be Saturday the 19th of August, and Sunday 20th August at Serendipities. On the Sunday, our full menu and specials board will all be pay what you want. We want to welcome everyone! We’d love you to come and celebrate all that we’ve achieved over the past 4 years. If you'd like to keep in touch, please follow Uppertunity online, where we'll continue to share news of our journey. We are working through our lists to try to personally contact all of you who’ve been part of this journey with us over the last 4 years. We know we won’t reach you all, so please know you’ve played an important role in creating opportunities for our wonderful clients.
This decision was not easy, and we have been looking at different options for months. We need to make sure our main base can survive. We are continually seeing increased demand for our services. There are still unknowns for us to navigate and we may be calling on you, our community, for support, particularly with help to move our equipment into

Are you looking to make a difference to climate issues in Scotland? The Scottish Government is asking people for their views on how we can best tackle climate change in Scotland!
Significant change is needed in the years ahead and this will impact on our daily lives. The places we live will need to adapt to the changing climate and to find a sustainable path to reducing emissions. The transformation needed can only be achieved with the endorsement of, and active engagement with, the public.
The workshop is taking place on 19th of July at the Steeple Church, Dundee! Join the guestlist to receive more information about this event!
