📢Congratulations to students in Upmo Retail; Jemma, Christie, Greg, Sophie, Kerri and Abbie who received their accreditation in Ready for Retail through Borders College. 🎉
The qualification gives an overall breakdown of all the skills required to prepare students for work in the retail sector.
The students worked on modules such as Customer Service, Basic Work Skills, and Health and Safety. Each student completed a workbook and were assessed on each module to complete the course. It was also an opportunity for them to work on their literacy and numeracy skills.
Regular Pop-Up shops held in St Margaret's House, running stalls at local markets and role play in the workshop setting, provided them with experience to put what they learned into practice.

Our annual sponsored walk is back again, Thursday 5th September, around Holyrood Park.

There's a maximum capacity for this year’s walk, and we will check bookings at the start point. There is not an option to sign up on the day, and bookings must be made in advance.
This event is for Upmo students only, with the exception that if the student does not attend Upmo on Thursday and requires 1:1 support, their parent/carer may attend with them.

Here's the first post in a series to share some quick animations created by our Students, telling stories in a series of frames with audio, as well as handmade sets and characters. This first story features two fictional characters, with a sudden twist involving kryptonite tea! Description: A stop-motion animation of two characters wearing costumes - one in a superhero cape, and the other as a queen.

Upmo Grow | Strawberries

🍓 It's strawberry season! Our students and staff have been planting and tending to delicious strawberries in our garden at Jock Tamson's Gairden in Duddingston. They have also been busy making improvements to this fantastic outdoor space, all while looking after the garden in full bloom.

Upmo Campus Launch

Upmo’s exciting plans will create new opportunities for adults with learning disability and autism, and help us deliver our ‘curriculum for dignity’. Attending the launch at Upmo’s new HQ and Employability Centre at Links House in Leith, Ms Sturgeon said: “It was inspiring to meet so many dedicated staff who are committed to not only improving the lives of the young adults they work with but the wider community too. “We want everyone in Scotland with a learning disability to live healthier lives, enjoy choice and control over the services they use, and be supported to be independent and active citizens.

Coding Lego Robot

The Friday IT/Coding workshop have built this Lego robot and are currently learning how to use an app on the iPad to code instructions to remotely control the robot. This week the challenge was to code a set of movements, and along the way, tell the arm to move, pick up the block and have the robot push it to the finish line. Well done!! They’re super fast learners!!

Our Story

Upmo is an Edinburgh-based charity providing support and opportunity for adults with learning disabilities and autism. For more than a decade, we’ve been combining tailored support services with an increasingly respected curriculum of creative workshops, educational activities and vocational programmes.

We’re often asked what drives us, and the answer is simple – a passionate belief that every person in society should be given the opportunities they need to develop their potential and play an equal, inclusive and rewarding role in their communities.

Every week, we encourage our students to build confidence, use imagination and develop life skills through music, drama, art and other expressive and physical activities. We also offer trainee placements as part of our growing work experience programme
