In our view no party is complete without a reveal. It’s the final act of the evening. You’ve had the reception, sat down to a delicious dinner with gorgeous tables. The lighting is moody and just as you think you’ve seen it all, the band strike up, smoke starts to seep out from under the curtain and then slowly but surely the curtain is pulled back to reveal the main act of the evening. Just had the best time putting on this ski themed party for twins 18th last weekend. We happened to be blessed with snow too which made it even more magical. did a superb supper of lasagna followed by sticky toffee pudding. and his team creating the amazing lighting as usual complete with our very own ski bobble hat lights over the bar. Working in -4 Conditions was also a challenge. Huge thank you to all involved.

May was a busy month for us here at Apollo. Starting with 3 separate family celebrations over one wonderful weekend.
Drinks reception on the Friday, 60th Birthday on The Saturday and a Celebration of Life on the Sunday.
The weather was amazing, allowing the guests to make the most of the beautiful surroundings along the banks of the river Test.
Sunday lunch was the main event with guest sipping Pimms and being fed delicious canapes by while being entertained by the brilliant before sitting down to a delicious two course lunch. This was followed by speeches and a sing a long and then cake cutting which set off indoor fireworks. A really happy occasion. A big thank you to all involved. .fireworks

We had the pleasure of organising a wonderful lunch party in Wiltshire last Saturday. The weather cheered up just as guests arrived which meant rolling up the marquee walls and not having to use the heater which is always a good thing. Guest sat down to a two course lunch of slow cooked leg of lamb marinated with garlic and red wine jus. Vegetarian option was goats cheese filo pastry, welted wild garlic , sun blushed tomatoes and goats cheese with chard grilled asparagus. Pudding was Lemon meringue roulade with raspberries and pistachios and Rhubarb Frangipani served with mixed berries compote and whipped cream. I think the last guest left at around 6.30pm. Thanks so much to all involved.

I wanted to continue our theme of spring which I promise is just around the corner!
One area of party planning that often gets forgotten is the night club. It’s got a dance floor and lots of disco lighting and possibly a star lit roof. However, it’s an area that guest will hopefully spend a lot of time in, so we believe it should always be part of the theme?!!
Here we look at a backdrop which was part of a Hockney themed party. It was based on The Ploughed Fields by Hockney. Cut out and lit from behind, it created a really fab look and of course a wow factor as the nightclub was revealed after dinner. Always leave a little something for later, as it re energises the party. Swipe left to see original.

I think we all need a little sunshine in our lives right now. Which reminded me of a lovely 70th birthday lunch party for family and friends we did in July a few years back. Very simple but effective. Long tables, allowing more guest to be involved in the conversation with limewash Chivari chairs and then simple Jam jars of flowers placed evenly down the tables, provided by the hugely talented . The client then put down his own rugs to give a more homely feel to the occasion.

As is nearly upon us, I couldn’t resist this fabulous joint 18th and 21st birthday party we organised a few years back. 150 guests sat down to a delicious 3 course dinner followed by dancing to the early hours. So much red and gold, but the candelabra adorned with fabulous rich red roses said it all. Turning a beautiful table into a gorgeous one. The red rose is popular with Valentine’s day because the red colour is associated with passion and romantic love. Therefore, we’d like to be the first to congratulate you should you have just got engaged. It goes without saying that we’d love to hear your stories of proposal, the more romantic the better.

Something to ponder over the weekend of things to come. A beautiful spring styled marquee with hand painted roof linings, simple wooden tables and gorgeous flower arrangements consisting of a ravishing selection of blue and white flowers and delicate scented foliages and herbs. Including paper whites, astrantia, senecio, hyacinths, rosemary and sage plants, hellebores, blue and white hydrangea heads, all in interesting and varied containers. The tables were punctuated with terracotta pots filled with fat pillar candles and moss and tall glass storm lanterns. Simple yet effective. As we head into February and with Spring just round the corner, I was reminded of an event we did where the daffodils totally played their part. We up lit their little pompom trees surrounded by gorgeous daffodils
Such a clever flower that never disappoints and comes in all sizes and of course variations of colour.

Here’s a quick look back to last Saturdays Hawaii Five Oh! Party.

After a day of biblical weather the rain finally stopped just in time for guests to arrive at our little tropical island in the heart of Haslemere, Surrey.
Guests were greeted by waiting staff in Life Guard T shirts and were adorned with leis as is the custom in Hawaii. Once inside our tropical paradise, complete with palm trees, wooden circular bar and surf boards, guest enjoyed delicious cocktails expertly made by the incredibly efficient professional bar staff who were bought down from London especially for the occasion, and just happened to be nephews of the birthday boy. To complete the family party, the delicious food was provided by the birthday boy’s sister, a Master Chef finalist!! Nothing like keeping it all in-house. The magic mirror kept guests amused all evening, including the bands lead singer having his picture taken while mid song! At the allotted hour the band arrived on stage, playing the Hawaii Five O theme tune as we drew back the reveal to the nightclub. It was then party on!! And boy did they party.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a wedding for 200 or a Lunch party for 50 guests, We’ll always give every type of party our utmost attention making sure it’s remembered for all the right reasons. A quick flash back to an amazing wedding we organised the 23rd of July. It was the hottest week of the year making the build a testing one with temperatures reaching 30 degrees in the marquee. 4 days to build culminating in the most amazing day. Not only the wedding of the incredibly patient and beautiful childhood sweethearts Katie and Hugo who had waited over 17 months due the pandemic, but also to see so many of our industry colleagues back at work. It was smiles and plenty of laughter all round as we got back to doing what we love. There were 27 different suppliers involved along the way so grateful to be back at work. So many never actually seen on the day but without whom it would not be possible and I thank you all. It really was the best day ever!

Keeping on the theme of hats, these fabulous bowler hats were for a James Bond themed party we organised. A nod to Nick Nack the evil henchman in The Man with the Golden Gun.

On the subject of lighting, this was for a Hockney themed party a few years ago now, different areas had different seasons throughout the year. Reception being Spring. The lights were made from real bark on an old lamp frame and painted blue. Created by the by the brilliant team Marquee by It’s always lovely doing things out of the ordinary.

Being a party planner is all about having lightbulb moments. These clever lightbulb candles were used as table centres when we organised Osrams 100 year anniversary party held at Pinewood studios back in 2006. Coincidently it was also Pinewoods 70th anniversary and a great match as Osram were the fist to supply the film industry with powerful enough lighting to light their film sets. .

Very sad news of hearing the Death of Prince Philip. We had the pleasure of organising an event back in 2015 that he attended with Queen and The Duke of Cambridge. I would love to have known what he was really thinking! RIP the Duke of Edinburgh.

A cast back to when Christmas was normal. One of our favourite clients, who house we decorated for their annual Christmas party. Sadly not this year. With the fantastic news of various vaccines coming to the end of their trials I really do believe there is now light at the end of the tunnel. I for one can’t wait to re engage with our fabulous clients and look forward to making 2021 the best ever!

As a party planner we have to be able to wear many different hats and more so than ever in this current climate. In recent months we’ve had to add a new hat of councillor and in some cases provide a shoulder to cry on. We don’t really know when it’s going to get back to complete normal, but what we do know is that we can and will adapt our ways of doing things. Our job is to advise and plan according to what we are currently allowed to do and make sure it amazing, seamless and totally stress free. If we have to wait another 3 months, so be it, but it will be so worth it. Just as long as everyone abides by the rules, we’ll get their quicker. Here at Apollo its business as usual with lots going on for next year which is great. So if you’re thinking of having an event in 2021 and just want to run the idea past us or need some help or advice, please get in touch as we loved to hear all about it.

Wishing a very Happy Birthday to HRH The Princess Royal.

I had the honour of meeting her on a couple of occasions. The first picture was taken at a wedding we organised a few years ago for another member of the Royal Family, but the great thing about it was that the Princess Royal is wearing the same outfit she wore to Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding in 1981!! The second picture is at the anniversary of the Magna Carter signing we organised in 2015.
