Our Charity of the Year, Veterans’ Growth, who you may have seen in the horticulture section at our shows this year, are hosting a number of events throughout the next few months at their site in Westfield, near Hastings, East Sussex 🌱
Paid for events are free to veterans and their family members, please let them know when booking.

Some examples are:

🍰 22nd November – Coffee & Cakes – come along for a drink and the opportunity to buy some homemade cakes from their newly opened ‘Harvest Hub’: 10am-1pm

We would like to add our voices to the many tributes being paid to Brian Williams, much loved Chair of our Society from 2008 to 2011, as well as Chair and member of our Equestrian Committee for many years and a recent member of our Nominations Committee.

When Brian and his wife Jane moved to Mallions Farm, Staplefield in 1980, Brian, a practicing solicitor, established a small suckler herd and together with his wife Jane became involved in showing and breeding quality show horses, successfully breeding Horse of the Year Show champions. The South of England Agricultural Society therefore combined two of Brian’s passions – farming and the countryside and the world of equestrian showing, and Brian was dedicated to raising the profile of the Society and all of its objectives and running a great three day agricultural show which showcased the best of farming and horses.

His commitment to the Society spanned many years and in his latter years he concentrated on identifying and nurturing new committee members and providing wise advice when asked and for that we are very grateful.

We send our condolences to his family and the wider equestrian community of which he was such an active member in many different roles, he will be much missed 🕊️

There was so much going on at the BASC South East stand at our last weekend, with game cooking demonstrations from Game And Flames plus Langstone Wildfowlers and Sussex Police fi****ms unit, as well as the BASC - The British Association for Shooting and Conservation gun fit and eye dominance services. And as always, they ran the fantastic gundog scurries which are so popular with our visitors.

Massive thanks to their team for all the hard work involved.
