Celebrants are the heart of the funeral service. We sit with grieving families, listen to the most wonderful stories and relay those life milestones and memories with love, understanding and above all compassion. A lot of hours goes into writing a funeral service so with this in mind why doesn’t the co-op mention the important role a celebrant plays?

one of the biggest chains of nationwide funeral directors (Kate T was recently on Radio 4's The Bottom Line with their CEO) has produced a comprehensive report into funeral trends... But they seem to have forgotten something...
😮There is no mention of funeral celebrants!!
😮The report lists florists, vehicles, dress codes and music choices... But who is creating and delivering the service? Not a word on them!
😮They list alternative locations for funerals and celebrations of life and living celebrations....
😮Whilst you won't need a funeral director for a celebration of life or living funeral (there's no body) - you would be wise to have someone to structure, write, deliver and stage-managed the event, be that family member, faith leader or, of course, professional celebrant. ♥️
😮And remember you can book a celebrant directly (no need to go through a funeral director)
♥️Also, there are as many different types of celebrant as there are dead people...
♥️Coffin Club's amazing Celebrant-plus celebrants range from committed atheists, to interfaith, pagan, unspecified spiritual and beyond. We have celebrants with additional skills and qualifications such as end of life doulas or grief counsellors or who specialise in living funerals ♥️
♥️We actually feel really sad that celebrants, who are the heart of a funeral service and an important source of support for bereaved people, were, once again, entirely overlooked.😕
Come on, Co-op, could do better.

Shout out to amazing Lincolnshire celebrant for alerting us to this injustice!!

Last Journey:
There is a train at the station
With a seat reserved just for me
I’m excited about its destination
As I’ve heard it sets you free.

The trials and tribulations
The pain and stress we breathe
Don’t exist where I am going
Only happiness, I believe.

I hope that you will be there
To wish me on my way
It’s not a journey you can join in
It’s not your time today.

There’ll be many destinations
Some are happy, some are sad
Each one a brief reminder
Of the great times that we’ve had.

Many friends I know are waiting
Who took an earlier train
To greet and reassure me
That nothing has really changed.

We’ll take the time together
To catch up on the past
To build a new beginning
One that will always last.

One day you’ll take your journey
On the train just like me
And I promise that I’ll be there
At the station and you will see:

That life is just a journey
Enriched by those you meet
No-one can take that from you
It’s always yours to keep.

But now as no seat is vacant
You will have to muddle through
Make sure you fulfil your ambitions
As you know I’ll be watching you.

And if there’s an occasion
To mention who you knew
Speak kindly of that person
As one day it will be you.

Now I can’t except this ending
And as it’s time for me to leave
Please make haste to the reception
To enjoy my drinks, they’re free!

This is thinking outside the box!

Everyone has the right to have their send off exactly as they want it.

We get swept along with what the funeral directors would like us to have, when the reality is, you can have pretty much what you want, including your own choice of celebrant!!

Start those conversations with your families. Do they really know your wishes for your service when the time comes?

Alfie Watts opens up about the death of his mother when he was just a young boy and his role as an ambassador for other young people who find themselves in his position.

Grief is an emotion that needs to be fully processed before we can start to learn to live without our loved ones. Wrapping our children in a bubble to protect ultimately can do more harm than good.

Open up, talk to each other share your grief. As my granddaughter is fond of tell me “sharing is caring”

For all the dads that will be forever in our hearts ❤️

For all the dads that will be forever in our hearts ❤️

Today, we honour all fathers and father figures. For many, this day can bring a mix of emotions, especially if you're grieving the loss of a beloved father.

It’s important to recognise and embrace those feelings. Remember, it’s okay to feel joy, sadness, and everything in between. On this Father's Day, let's find ways to celebrate and remember the special men who have shaped our lives.

Here are some ways to honour your father today:

Share Stories: Take some time to share your favorite memories and stories about your father with family and friends. Keeping their memory alive through storytelling can be comforting.

Create a Tribute: Light a candle, visit their favorite place, or create a small memorial at home to honour your father.

Engage in Their Favourite Activity: Whether it’s a hobby, a sport, or simply enjoying their favorite meal, doing something your father loved can bring you closer to their memory.

Reflect and Write: Writing a letter to your father or journaling your thoughts can be a therapeutic way to express your emotions and keep their spirit alive.

We wish everyone a peaceful and reflective Father's Day.

There's one thing I never understood
since the day you went away.
How traffic keeps on moving, and
night still turns to day.

How does the wind keep blowing
and leaves fall to the ground.
How the clocks keep on ticking,
even though you're not around.

How people go to work,
or are shopping with their friends,
picking clothes to suit, and
caring about new trends.

Social media is still working
and used by everyone.
How come no one notices?
Do they know that you are gone?

Sitting at a bus stop,
the bus is running late.
Time still moving forward,
but I'm stuck on a date.

People standing chatting,
everywhere you look,
yet I'm still on the page,
of the day that you were took.

The minutes turn to hours.
The days turn to weeks,
yet my face is always wet,
from my tears on my cheeks.

I will never understand,
how the world keeps moving on,
because mine has been stood still,
since you have been gone.
