Thread Snake Records, the tiniest psych-folk snake in the world, presents to you...

Another Thursday night at MB, with:

Leo Plazer, a London-based singer-songwriter with German roots who has been performing across London over the last 3 years as part of Folk duos and, more recently, as a solo act.“Some singer-songwriters stand out because of their voices, others through the originality of their songs, or maybe the groove they find on their guitar. Leo combines all three. Her songs are original, sharply observed, and beautifully sung and played.

Ben Jones, a folk/indie singer-songwriter from the South Coast who finds inspiration in the fusion of traditional and contemporary folk music. His heartfelt lyrics and melodies reflect a deep love for storytelling.

And Jack Benfield! A multi instrumentalist and producer born and raised in London. After many years of touring and recording in various projects, Jack has now turned towards composition. Starting from scratch and experimenting with open tunings, over the last 30 days Jack has composed all the pieces of music he will perform this evening.

Join us for the launch of Simon Culleton‘s novel Shadows of Fathers!

Shadows of Fathers a brilliant story of a father’s fight to stay close to his children. One father’s fight to stay close to his children in a journey that crosses geographical, cultural and emotional borders.

Simon was born and bred in Essex England, where he lives with his two children. His love for writing began when he wrote a short story at age 17, while sat in a derelict car, which went on to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4. He loves to travel and has worked his way around the world, undertaking jobs from snow clearing in Sweden, to construction work in California, to working as a farm-hand on an Australian sheep station. Simon has a passion for chronicling everyday people, including interviewing war veterans in his earlier travels, which extends even to himself: he has maintained a personal daily diary for over 40 years.

Join us for the launch on Tuesday 28th November! 📚 Brought to you by Stairwell Books

We are so sooo excited to hosting the launch of ‘Chapters’ Tim Key’s new poetry book on Tues 7th!

This event SOLD OUT pretty quickly, but look at the link in our bio for any returns to secure yourself a ticket!

Tim Key will be making a very mild launch of the first print of “Chapters”, his new poetry anthology. The print run is quite small, so the launch will be, too.
But the book will be there, he’ll sign whatever, and he’ll read some out and have a short conversation with Katy Wix.
Emily Juniper, who Tim has designed the book with and is a phenomenon, will hopefully be there too. She might even sign some books if we’re lucky.

“Chapters” is published by Utter & Press.

About The Book

Tim Key (Alan Partridge, The Witchfinder, Tim Key’s Late Night Poetry Programme) launches his new poetry anthology.

“Chapters” is his least ambitious project to date. A slim book of the crap he’s been churning out over the past eighteen months. Poems about men getting stuck in webs, poems about the ancient city of Canterbury, poems about canoodling with a rose.

A prolific sod, he’s selected ninety of his trademark vignettes and packed them off to Emily Juniper for her to fling onto pages and shape into a book. Discussions ensued about what, if anything, the point of it all was, and a healthy debate as to whether it should be broken up into chapters and, if so, why.

All of these discussions are documented in the leftover space around the poems. The result is a splurge of words which very occasionally shine a light on modern times. It is the third book Tim and Emily have generated together.

Áine is a 23 year old singer/songwriter based in London, who started gaining traction on TikTok in 2021 whilst posting covers and original songs from her university bedroom during the pandemic. Her videos attracted the support of other artists, such as Sam Smith, Little Mix and Ed Sheeran and her TikTok now has over 270,000 followers. Since then Áine has graduated, moved to London and gone on to achieve some big milestones. She has amassed over 5 million streams on Spotify alone in just 20 months and her third single ‘Handmedowns’ was BBC Radio 1’s introducing track of the week in January 2022.

She has received constant support from the BBC Introducing team – especially in Cambridge where she has been interviewed many times and who play her songs regularly. Áine also played the BBC introducing stage at Latitude festival last year, before also playing the main stage at Wilderness festival and the Brighton Dome for The Great Escape this year.

Live music is one of Áine’s favourite elements of this career, having supported Sam Smith at the Royal Albert Hall and been on tour with Hozier, Henry Moodie and James Bay to name just a few.
Áine has also supported the likes of Maisie Peters, Nina Nesbitt, the 502s and New Rules and has quickly realised live music is where she converts the most fans. Áine has played 3 headline shows in London at The Lower Third, Omeara and Lafayette, in under a year and all of which sold out quickly – the first of which sold out in just 2 minutes.
Coming up this summer Áine will be playing Barn on the Farm, Boardmasters, 110 Above and All Points East festivals. As a topliner Áine has worked with artists such as Mimi Webb, Cate Canning, Georgia Webster, Elle Coves and Arthur Hill.

Bity Booker

Bity Booker is an Italian/Australian psych-folk singer songwriter and illustrator based in London, England.
Bity performs her original songs and folk songs with classical guitar and voice.

Her music and illustrations have a strong connection with the natural world and animals.

Bity’s latest EP ‘Dreaming in the Morning’ (2022) was recorded at home on a tape machine, the songs are a dreamy ode to nature, about that instant when alone with your mind in the woods, you become one with the trees and the birds and everything seems to fall into place, quietly.
‘Both her art work and songs seem like love letters to a simple yet profound, mystical sensibility last seen in the wild in the early seventies.’ From the Margins blog, February 2022.

How does it feel to grow up in a country that no longer exists?🇩🇪📚

Everyone has heard of the Berlin Wall. But few people realise that there was also a long stretch of barbed wire fence, complete with mines, armed guards, dogs and watchtowers, that ran ‘like a scar’ down the western border of the country known as the German Democratic Republic.

Yet ‘Never Mind, Comrade’ isn’t about how awful life was behind the ‘iron curtain’ during the 1980s. Yes, we learn of a world ruled by ideology, restrictions, half-truths and superstition, but there is also a magic and humour within the book. Claudia Bierschenk sensitively conjures up a child’s curiosity, not just the clear-eyed innocence of those years, but also how deeply children think and feel about ‘adult’ concerns.

One Planet. One life. Let’s do it well.

We started in 2019 as a bookshop, creative studio and events space in the heart of Bermondsey, a vibrant and artistic neighbourhood in South East London, famous for its craft beers. Due to the pandemic, we had to close our doors, still in the infancy of our business. Then Jonathan had a great idea: to get a license to sell liquor, which would keep us on the go, but not only that - aiming to become the best place in South London to taste local craft beer and other products, all locally crafted. Ever since then, we’ve supported local producers and social enterprises that give people a fair payment and a meaningful job, whether dedicated to environmental or social causes. We are proud to have created, from the collective hard work of our dedicated team, a place to act locally and think globally, through the fantastic international literature we curate every week. Morocco Bound is about to bond with the local, and share with the global, which we plan to do by offering a book club, poetry nights and craft beer tasting club. Join us, and we'll cherish a world beyond.
