Club Liberty UKG

Club Liberty UKG London's Best Kept Secret.. Launched by Dj Martin Larner at the Legendary Club Colosseum, Vauxhall, London on Friday 5th Sept 1997.

Friday September 5th 1997 saw the launch of one of the UK’s biggest club nights at the now legendary Club Colosseum in Vauxhall, London. Over the next 3 and a half years LIBERTY established itself as London’s premier weekly House & Garage event running every Friday until Dec 2000. The brainchild of then up and coming Garage Dj Martin Larner, the night soon gathered a reputation as the place to go

to hear cutting edge upfront UK Garage in the main room, steering away from the commercial side of the scene to focus on the more underground sound of UKG it is responsible for establishing the careers of the likes of the So Solid Crew, Pied Piper, Martin Larner, Maxwell D, Tee Bone, Mc Charlie Brown, Mc Sparks, Mc teller & Spin E B. It was a main testing ground for new music, in part due to the phenomenal sound system of the Club Colosseum and can claim 1st plays on tracks like ‘Da Click – Good Rhymes’ ‘So Solid – Oh No’ ‘Wookie – Battle’ & ‘MOC – Do You really Like It’ amongst others. During it’s time at the Colosseum Liberty hosted some of the most talked about UKG parties ever with the mighty Garage Nation, A One Night Stand, Public Demand Records, Emotions & Rhythm Promotions joining forces for sell out events. In 2000 Liberty opened the biggest nightclub in Ayia Napa, Club Abyss, returning to the island in 2001 to take over Club Ice. In 2004 after 4 years of club tours around the UK and the Garage scene in a state of transition Liberty took the bull by the horns and started it’s 2nd residency, this time at Studio 33, again in Vauxhall, London, running every Saturday for just under a year before the club was sold, with UK Garage in the main room, Soulful & deep house in room 2 & Old Skool Jungle in room 3 with full capacity every week. From 2005-2010 Liberty teamed up with the legendary Sidewinder to put on monthly events in London, Birmingham, Cambridge & Swindon, continuing to fly the flag for UKG both old & new, and in 2008 & 2009 Liberty went back to Ayia Napa to take over Club Play every Wednesday, In 2010 Ibiza was our international destination of choice. Back to London and more events over the next 3 years before, we took a well earned break from promoting and now we are back with some amazing parties & events.. We hope you can join us to celebrate our amazing Journey!

Art of Party London

A few month's back i was contacted by VICE on behalf of Desperados and asked to get involved in a project they were doing called the Desperados Clubhouse celebrating 90's club culture and in particular my Liberty event at the now legendary Club Colosseum in Vauxhall, London and to share my story of how it grew alongside the rise of the UK Garage scene at the time and how i felt it influenced me personally and people that came in their thousands to party with us every Friday for over 3years.

I asked for Matt Jam Lamont to get involved and speak about the era from the birth of the scene in 93/94 onwards, El B to give us the producers angle and DJ Cartier as someone that was not involved at the time but is now a major force within the scene.

this is how it came out, enjoy!
