This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week. 1 in 7 people (more than 15% of people in the UK) are neurodivergent, yet many workplaces still do not accommodate those with different brains.

Neurodiversity brings many wonderful skills and traits to the world of marketing and PR, yet many employers still discriminate and don't offer flexible work environments.

Our MD did a thing! Nikki is featured in the new PR Bootcamp book by Angelica Malin talking about how to plan a successful press event. Here are her top tips:

⚡️ What's the so what? Why would press want to attend your event? Ensuring the event is newsworthy, has a unique reason to attend, or has a product available for review is vital. 
 
⚡️ Target the right journalists and influencers. There's no use inviting hundreds of people that don't write about your topic or sector. And along with media contacts, think about inviting relevant influencers. 
 
⚡️ Make sure you have key spokespeople available for interview or comment. Share details with the journalist about who will be available beforehand and what they can contribute.
 
⚡️ Location- Think about the location and how to make it as accessible as possible. Along with accessibility, you will spark interest and motivate attendance by holding the event somewhere beautiful and unique. 
 
⚡️ Be creative - Journalists and influencers are craving experiences again, so how can you make it extra special? Think about food and drink options and entertainment, or create beautiful décor and Instagrammable elements. 
 
⚡️ Make sure that you have press materials to hand. Even if you've sent them out beforehand, have print-outs or digital assets available to share quickly if requested. 
 
⚡️ Use social media to promote and maximise your event's reach and share photography and video with your media list afterward. 
 
⚡️ Connect with your guests post-event. Follow up with influencers and media to gauge feedback and gather post-event press coverage.

Fashion-forward or fashion fail?
Couture or cancelled?

It’s Paris Fashion Week, and one brand in particular sparked a huge debate on social media over the last few days. Making headlines on Monday, American designer Daniel Roseberry caused a stir after styling supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Irina Shayk, and Shalom Harlow in embroidered wild animal heads.

There has been outrage from all corners of social media on whether the 'Inferno' collection was nothing more than a creative embodiment of the nine circles of hell or whether the faux-taxidermy stunt glamorises trophy fashion, a highly unethical fashion accessory.

It’s a hard fail from us. The message is wildly off and just not what you expect to see for the purposes of shock value in fashion in 2023.

How do you choose a PR agency?

There are thousands of PR firms, all promising incredible results, and value for money. It can be time-consuming and overwhelming to sift through Google results and select a shortlist so here are a few questions to ask yourself that can help quicken up the process.

⚡️ Does the agency have relevant experience and a good mix of clients?

⚡️ Do you like each other? We all know this business is about relationships, and having a good rapport can do wonders for morale and results. That doesn’t mean you have to be in the pub together every night (although that’s always a bonus), but it makes life easier when you actually like each other.

⚡️Have clear objectives. It’s worth knowing exactly what you want to achieve before finding the right agency.

⚡️Set realistic budgets and expectations.

⚡️Value expertise and build trust. Trust is the number one element in any great relationship, and that goes for the client/agency relationship too. Trust will build bridges and pave the way for fantastic results.

⚡️Creativity is key. Creative PR stunts and experiential campaigns can create a huge splash with the right media and customers. Look out for the fantastic storytellers; they will bring your brand alive.

Hosting an impactful press event can be challenging as there are so many elements to consider.

From thinking about how to get your guests to attend to location and promotion… here is what you should be thinking about when hosting a successful press event 👇

💜 What's the so what? Why would press want to attend your event? What's the news or hook? Ensuring that your event is newsworthy or has a unique concept or product available for review is vital in motivating journalists to attend.

💜 Make sure you target the right journalists and influencers. There's no use inviting hundreds of people that don't write about your topic or sector. And along with media contacts, think about inviting key influencers who can promote your event across their social platforms.

💜 As well as having a solid news hook, make sure you have key spokespeople available for interview or comment. Share details with the journalists about who will be available beforehand and what they can contribute.

💜 Location, Location, Location. Unless you're gifting journalists an all-expenses-paid holiday to Ibiza, then think about the location and how to make it as accessible as possible. By holding the event somewhere beautiful and unique, you will spark interest and motivate attendance.

💜 Be creative. People are craving experiences again after spending so much time at home. So how can you make it extra special? Think about food and drinks options and entertainment, or create beautiful décor and Instagrammabale elements.

The diary of a Senior Account Executive at Purple Riot 💻 By Jess Woodhouse.

It’s been two months since I joined the team at Purple Riot, and what a first two months it’s been.

From standing in as a model at a client photoshoot (thankfully, it was just the back of my head) to landing national coverage about finding the G-**ot, a day in the life of a PR and Marketing Exec is truly unique!

Working with such a fab and varied range of clients really does ensure that no day is ever the same. One day you’re at a photoshoot in a bar for a B2B client; the next, you’re brainstorming campaign ideas for s*x positioning cushions… yes, really.

Here are three things that I’ve learnt so far:
1. How to develop ideas into an in-depth strategy considering both PR and Marketing.
2. How to pitch to potential new clients – I presented to a potential client for the first time and MIGHT of embarrassingly pronounced GIF incorrectly. 🤦🏼‍♀️
3. How to be confident in me – Whether it be sharing ideas within the team or speaking to a client on a call, I’ve learnt to embrace my personality and let this come across naturally.

For anyone considering taking the plunge and starting their career in the PR/marketing/events industry, my advice would be to just GO FOR IT! Embrace the weird and wonderful opportunities that come your way and absorb all the help and guidance from those in your team.

I’m very lucky to work closely with a small but senior team and am learning new skills every day.

There have been some clever responses to ’s show, a real-life story about a man faking his billionaire status and scamming women out of millions of pounds. 
 
Brands and social media users alike were quick off the mark to piggyback with a mixture of funny meme-based content and powerful ads from the likes of JMW doing the rounds. 👏
 
There's been a lot of debate about whether brands should be making light of this particular topic given the victims' trauma. What do you think?
