Update 24th July 2024:-

STOP PRESS - the main hall and kitchen will be closed from the 29th of July to the 2nd of August for the kitchen refit but the meeting rooms will still be available.

From the 1st of June 2024 all regular user groups represented on the committee now benefit from a 20% reduction in hire fees.

All other charges remain unchanged. See website for details.

The deposit for private parties remains unchanged at £25. This is charged in addition to any other fees and will be refunded providing the hall is left clean and tidy and no damage has occurred to the building or its contents.

Hirers booking the hall for private functions will be required to pay for their booking in full before the booking is confirmed.

Please note the free-of-charge "buffer zones" for setting up and clearing away for private parties have been removed. Hirers need to take this into account when making their bookings.

If a booking is cancelled more than 14 days before the event any payments made will be refunded in full. If less than 14 days notice is given the deposit will be retained. All other payments will be refunded. If less than 7 days notice is given any refund, whether full or partial, will be at the discretion of the committee.

Late bookings, i.e. less than 7 days notice, will only be accepted under exceptional circumstances and must be paid for in full at the time of booking. If the event is subsequently cancelled no refund will be given.

The minimum booking which will be accepted is one hour with increments of 15 minutes after the first hour.

The minimum charge will be the equivalent hourly rate appropriate to the user.

All booking requests will be considered on their merits by the management committee.

Bookings can only be made online via our website www.bowerhillvillagehall.org.uk

Hire documents will be emailed to hirers for printing so make sure you have access to a printer before making your booking.

In case of difficulty please email the Bookings Administrator at [email protected]

Registered users will have access to their bookings and invoices via the online booking system, but amendments and cancellations can only be made by the Bookings Administrator.

There is a contact form and links to our page and Messenger on our website.

Welcome to the new Area Board page!

Area Boards are a way of working to bring local decision making into the heart of the community. Residents and local organisations are encouraged to engage with their local Area Board by contacting their local Councillor or Strategic Engagement and Partnership Manager or by attending one of the local business meetings, community events, working groups or activities. We work alongside other organisations to make things happen in the community to address local priorities. An important role is to provide grants to community groups.

Community’s chance to help shape the town’s future

Everyone is invited to participate in the next draft of the town’s Neighbourhood Plan which will shape the development of Melksham over the coming years. The plan is being consulted on by Melksham Town Council and Melksham Without Parish Council for a seven-week period between Monday 16th October and Sunday 3rd December.

The current Melksham Neighbourhood Plan came into effect in July 2021 and runs until 2026. However, it has been reviewed, refined, updated with additions to run until 2038. Consultation will be on the whole plan, as there may be new issues or circumstances that affect current planning policies.

The Neighbourhood Plan is focussing on regeneration and in particular, the vitality of the town centre, bringing the former library and the Cooper Tires sites back into use. These housing and mixed development sites in the town centre meet the “Brownfield First” priority and many of the new policies in the plan are working to achieve a good balance of conservation and protection against delivering growth as we emerge from the cost-of-living crisis.

The revised plan includes new policies that seek to protect local green spaces and heritage assets, which the local community has identified as important in previous consultations.

Café operational one year on from Campus opening

The café in Melksham Community Campus is now open to the public for the first time since the leisure facility opened last August.

Wiltshire Council said the café never opened because they were unable to secure a suitable occupier in their usual tendering process on two separate occasions. The authority said it then changed the process, to search for a more local occupier.

The new café is being operated by FW Catering and will open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm and Sunday 8am to 4pm.

Police action over illegally parked trailers in Bowerhill

The Melksham Neighbourhood Police Team have agreed to contact companies illegally parking trailers along the road in Bowerhill Trading Estate.

The action follows pressure from Melksham Without Parish councillor, Mark Harris, who is calling for ‘robust policing’ over the illegally parked trailers. He is concerned speeding drivers could crash into the vehicles, following an increase in the severity and frequency of speeding in the Bowerhill area.

Wiltshire’s first carbon-neutral school planned for Melksham

Plans to build Wiltshire’s first climate-friendly school are under way, as Wiltshire Council announce work has begun to develop the long-awaited primary school in Pathfinder Place, Bowerhill.

The school will be Bowerhill’s second primary school and is expected to be the county’s first carbon neutral school, helping achieve Wiltshire Council’s business plan of being a carbon neutral county by 2030.

What’s a Minor Injury Unit? 🤔

MIUs are run by experienced clinicians and are available to treat non-life-threatening injuries, such as:

✔️ sprains and strains
✔️ broken bones
✔️ minor burns and scalds

MIUs cannot treat any minor illnesses, such as stomach pains, mild allergic reactions or pregnancy problems.

If you have a non-life-threatening injury, go to www.111.nhs.uk. Our trained clinicians will help you to get the right treatment, such as making a trip to your local MIU if necessary.

From tomorrow, a new contractor, Saba UK, will take over responsibility for parking at the RUH. As part of the new contract, all current pay stations will be replaced with new, easier to use payment machines, and more payment options will be made available too.

New barriers will be introduced in the main patient and visitor car park to improve traffic flow and give people the option to pay before they leave.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will log the time a vehicle has entered the car park. On leaving, all visitors need to do is enter their car registration number into a payment machine to find out how much they need to pay.

Parking for blue badge holders will remain free of charge and free parking will remain in place for those patient groups who need to make frequent visits to the RUH.

Parking charges have been frozen at £2 for the first hour. Two hours’ parking will rise from £3 to £3.30 and it will now cost £4.80 to park for three hours, an increase of 80p. This is the first time parking charges have increased in 10 years.

A 20min grace period will remain in place in the patient and visitor car parks and existing time-limited pick up/drop off points also remain.

Larger price rises will apply to people parking for four hours or longer, to deter non-hospital users from parking on site, taking up valuable spaces needed by our patients and visitors.

You can find out more information about parking costs and ways to pay on the Saba UK website: https://www.sabaparking.co.uk/royal-united-hospitals-bath-nhs-foundation-trust

If you have any questions about the new car parking contract, please email [email protected] or call Saba UK’s customer support team on 0300 123 5247.

Information on visiting the RUH by public transport, by bicycle or on foot can be found on the RUH website https://www.ruh.nhs.uk/finding/index.asp?menu_id=1
