Kat & Alex; hope you have a really lovely day 🤍.

Tumbling, frothy, lightly-cascading bridal bouquet for beautiful Kat. There is nothing like cosmos - in this case purity, cupcake and chocolate - to give a bouquet a bit of bounce.

… and swipe left for some darkly romantic Wuthering Heights vibes at Newstead Abbey.

wedding day morning set up.

… and no-one sees the 4 am starts, the 17 hour days, the sleepless nights, every weekend and bank holiday worked to make the flowers for a wedding beautiful. Just thinking of all my fellow florists and growers in the middle of this wedding season; literally living and breathing flowers - I see you 🤍.

Just a little note - if you have a wedding coming up in 2025 - especially the main wedding season months of May until September, please do get in touch as soon as you can if you would like me to make your flowers for you, the diary is becoming limited.

And this weekend I am at the beautiful for one of my gorgeous girls . Can’t wait to see you on Saturday 😘.

• hello monday, but •

… saying goodbye to the peonies for another year, and this one ‘etched salmon’ has taken over as a current favourite. A very fleeting appearance so book a late May/very early June wedding if peonies are your thing.

Although, on the upside we are now into garden roses and sweet peas … 😍

Table flowers for beautiful Laura 🤍

… I’ve been a little absent from the grid lately… wedding season mayhem. And it may be mid-June, and very near the longest day, but just like everybody else, my garden is so behind this year - and I need my blue nigella for next week so I could do with seeing a bit of sun 🤔.

Anyway, whilst my greenhouse is having a little glow up with new floor tiles, a look back at Harriet’s beautiful vine house taken when I did a workshop there. The greenhouse of dreams.

Have a fabulous week all. N x

small things, simple pleasures, perfect light. Forever in love with the togetherness and informality of a long table, both at intimate weddings and dinner parties.

I’m off to the Isle of Wight this week to help my florist friend Sian with a lovely island wedding. Hoping to get a glimpse of some sun and maybe the sea!

Have a lovely Tuesday evening all 🤍.

It is Tuesday isn’t it?

… and a week of ups and downs. Last week was my birthday, and a little escape to one of my favourite places … Chatsworth; a wet woodland walk and a lovely pub lunch. But then, my little black bear Indie 🐾 has been poorly - not even tempted to gobble down his favourite snack - cheese. I can’t bear to see him like that 🤍.

By the end of the week a sunshiny early summer wedding for Victoria & Richard. Frothy white florals and the cutest wedding guest - scroll through to the end of the photos to see who. Total gorgeousness.

And I must say a quick thank you to Liz who left a bucket for me filled with white sweet rocket & corncockles; anything frothy, frilly & delicate is my kind of thing, as you know 😘.

• double tulips •

I think double anything is better - double hellebores, double daffodils, double peonies … double vodka 🤣.

Quite the prettiest apricot-rose coloured double tulips I have ever seen - from who grow the very best British tulips. Variety Queensland.

And as we are into May, tulip season is coming to an end, and peony season is starting. I’m not sure quite how I feel about that.

But anyway, have a lovely sunny evening wherever you are 🤍.

• kate’s spring bouquet • my version of an all white, no foliage, bridal bouquet with beautiful silk ribbon by on the first really lovely weekend of the year. Lots of different varieties to vary the texture; simple and clean but still elegant and romantic.

Anna sent me so many lovely photos I didn’t know which ones to choose, and so there will be more photos to come. Sometimes, when I see photos like these, and I have such lovely brides like Kate, I realise exactly why I do wedding flowers, despite all the nerves and let’s face it, anxiety, of making it all perfect 🤍.

thankfully not the icy, cold, slushy kind, but the delicate, spring, flowery kind. Leucojum - like the winter snowdrop but bigger, with several little bells on each stem. They look rather cute fluttering over the side of a footed bowl I think 😉.

so difficult to say …

According to Greek mythology, anemones sprang out of the tears of Aphrodite, and they were seen as a symbol of love and passion in Victorian times.

With their dark sleepy eye centres, they are my second most requested flower after peonies. I also love the delicate late summer bouncy Japanese anemones, either in white or pale blush pink, with their sunny yellow centres.

• 14 february •

… no red roses, instead snowdrops; in fact, I would actually prefer a bunch of hyacinths 🤣. I love them. That you can only buy them in the spring makes them so much more special.

We are midway through February and that must mean that spring is on its way … I’m done with winter. It’s just too cold, wet and colourless. Unless it’s snowing. Then I might feel more enthusiastic about winter. I definitely felt glimpses of spring today, I think.

Anyway, whatever you are up to this evening, have a lovely one🪻.

anyone who has had a final consultation with me will know that I always spend a little time talking through ribbon choices for bouquets (more than a little some might say 🤣).

Sometimes my brides ask me what I mean by trailing ribbon, and so I thought I would post a few photos, so you can see just how beautiful it is:

• a study in snowdrops •

and a slight seasonal shift.

I’ve been feeling a bit off balance since Christmas, and a new year is a good chance to review and reflect.

Some of the things I love most about flowers seem to have become lost amidst the busyness of the wedding seasonal year; seeding, growing, gathering, photographing. Selecting a beautiful home-grown cut dahlia, which you cannot buy in any shop, and then curating it into a bridal bouquet is something very special that I love doing for my brides, and I know from all the lovely emails and cards I get, something they value.

I remember Sarah saying that growing even a few home-grown flowers makes you a better florist, and she is right.

And so, to keep to that, I have made the decision to focus a little more of my time on the cutting garden, as well as my current brides who are already booked in. And I might sell a few seasonal posies from time-to-time, we’ll see.

… and I don’t know about you, but I’m so glad to see the back of January 🤣.

• pantone : apricot •

‘peach fuzz’ is the 2024 Pantone colour of the year - apparently chosen each year to express the mood of influencers in art, design and fashion. Will we all be seeking rosy pouts, warm cheeks and peachy manicures?

In floral terms it looks really beautiful alongside soft blush + pastels, giving a real warmth to the colour palette.

I’ve spent the week talking flowers (again! 🤣), and trawling round muddy, windy fields with a mucky cockapoo - how is your weekend looking for you? Hope it’s a lovely one 🤍.

soft walnut brown and gentle whites; earth tones. No snow here yet … instead a hint of sparkle on all the dead seed heads in my still untidy & bare garden under a pale sky.

January is a time for planning - both for the garden and also chatting to couples about their exciting wedding florals. This year I am planting dahlias, cosmos, rudbeckia, corncockles, seeding cornflowers, and also my favourite caramel creme brûlée phlox.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, and stay warm ❄️.

• hello 2024 🤍 •

… I have a very strong urge to tear down the christmas decorations, open all the windows and clean the house from top to bottom 🤣! And whilst I don’t really make any new year resolutions, I do plan to find joy in the little things; to spend more time with people who make me happy.

Talking of happiness, I’m at this Saturday, 6 January, for the first Wedding Open Day of the year, and I’m planning winter whites, with sparkling dried honesty and miscanthus grass from the garden - a very lovely way to spend a winter afternoon.

22/12/2023

• celebrating • the passing of the shortest day of the year and the start of the festive season with a mistletoe martini (or two) … and perhaps a couple of nurophen 🤣.

I am very mindful that for many this time of year is not the glittering, snow-covered gingerbread version of chrismas which is often depicted; the societal pressure for it to be perfect is all-consuming. And, to be real, there is usually a meltdown at some point (well there is in this house 🤣). And so I hope that wherever you are, you enjoy a peaceful few days.

Love to all - and see you in 2024 🤍.

Late October and an ivory + blush bridesmaid bouquet with notes of velvety blackberry; a sprinkling of karma choc dahlias and chocolate cosmos (still flowering even though it’s nearly November).

Hope you all have a lovely evening, even though as I am writing this, it’s pouring with rain (again)! 🤍
