📣 AUDITION SUPPORT DAY

⭐️ A day at Laine Theatre Arts packed full of advice and guidance for improving your audition skills. Classes in Classical Ballet, Jazz and Singing with members of the College faculty who are part of our regular audition panel.

⭐️ Applicants will learn about life at Laine and both students and parents will have the opportunity to ask questions.

⭐️ Though this day is geared specifically to the audition process at Laine, much of the guidance is generic and as such will benefit participants in all their auditions.

An incredible show weekend with such innovative creatives and awesome talent!

🌟 GPDC SHOWS 2024 🌟

Such an incredible weekend last weekend for us at our annual GPDC SHOWS; with our dancers and performers showcasing to nearly 400 PEOPLE in our 3 SHOWS across 2 DAYS 🤩✨

A huge thank you to everyone that came and watched us… We appreciate you all so much and we hope you enjoyed the shows! 🎭

To our performers; what an amazing credit to GPDC you all are! 💜
It was inspiring to see you all shine on stage with such amazing talent and versatility, across the 47 different show pieces too showcasing so many different styles and specialities 🙌
You all worked so incredibly hard in the build-up to these shows and the awesome feedback and response could not be more deserved for our ‘best shows ever’ 🥳

So proud of you all! 💜
Also a huge thank you to all of our SHOW HELPERS… Without you, the shows would have not been able to happen 🫶

Huge Congratulations to this incredible young lady Maia Wain my Speech and Acting student who is bringing home from Florida the crown and title of Royal international Miss Junior Teen! Many people have misconceptions or no understanding of what an achievement it is for a young person to stand on the stage with confidence and deliver all that is required at this level! When you know you know.🙌

Last Friday Our Lydia had her last lesson with me prior to taking her grade 8 Gold medal Acting Lamda exam on Sunday before she heads off to continue her training at a full time college.
It’s always sad to say “Goodbye for now” when you’ve coached and nurtured a student weekly for many years but also such a joy when you know and understand that you have helped lead them on to following their dreams!
This weekend was the first of two Lamda exam weekends with 50 of our students treading the exam boards! Showtime! 🙌🎭🎭💕

It’s 50 years of the prestigious Laine Theatre Arts day! Was there any more of an exciting a letter to receive through the post than the one I’ve saved since 1991 when I was 16, offering me the coveted opportunity to train there for 3 years after auditioning the week before.
Although I can’t be there today. I’m Lucky and grateful to be a proud lainey! graduating in 1995, With Acting as my forte I’ve been proud to shout “I’m a lainey” from the rooftops! I was there with - Miss Valerie King- I still use her words in my articulation warm ups and loved assisting her on a Saturday , Barbara Evans those incomparable routines and incredible facial expressions, and Jerry Jazz - Mr Show business himself, the kindness and expertise of MT Specialists Maureen and Gwynn Hughes and the ever important discipline from Miss Laine is with me forever. I’ve been fortunate to have returned to Epsom many times since over the years and also met up with laineys all over the world, many of whom are lifelong friends.
Congratulations to the original Golden girl herself Miss Betty Laine and Thankyou!
Thankyou Laine’s for giving me the Razzle Dazzle to get through the difficult times in life on stage and off aswell as, of course the FABULOUS ones!

📣 SUMMER AUDITION SKILLS COURSE 🎭💃🏿🕺🎵

29th July – 2nd August 2024

This intensive five-day course is designed to prepare students aged 14+ for the process of auditioning for full-time musical theatre training courses. Students will participate in a range of workshop-style classes covering fundamental dance technique and vocabulary, technical singing, acting through song, script work and improvisation, guidance for finding solo vocal material for auditions and for creating a solo dance routine.

Limited accommodation can be arranged in local family homes. Payment is made directly to the host family and includes bed, breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal.

Our fabulous Phoebe of Italia Conti Plymouth had every reason to smile and hasn’t stopped since last month when she won the Musical Theatre Acting section at The Torbay and South West of England festival of Speech and Drama.
Phoebe was our youngest entrant into a Lamda exam when at just 3 years old she gained a Distinction in her stage 1! She also already has film credits and loved her time on set! Keep working hard phoebe, you are Born to perform!!🎭🎭 🙌💕

As all the little Janes have been recording their self tapes this past week, for the Auditions for the upcoming National tour, of Mary Poppins we remember when our wonderful Elsie 5 years ago, made it through to the very last round and performed for Sir Cameron Macintosh in the West End.
4 trips to London and numerous rounds each day, we are so proud of you Elsie! 💕🎭🎭🙌🎭🎤🎤

So many wonderful performing memories of this fabulous Theatre! I remember the excitement whist it was being built! My Grandmother sold the first tickets in her boutique with a paper seating plan to show people long before the internet! I have the Promo shoot pic for The Sound of Music National UK Tour on Plymouth hoe! 1984! Directed by the first in house Artistic Director Roger Redfarn.I was so fortunate to be in one of the 3 teams of local children given the opportunity at an open Audition. Congratulations to our Italia Conti Associate School Plymouths Acting student Ethan for winning the Seniour 15-17yrs Acting Cup at the Torbay and South West of England festival of Speech and Drama this week!
Ethan continues to raise the bar for young Actors.
With consistent hard work, dedication, and seeing every opportunity to perform and evolve his craft as worthwhile, he deserves every accolade!

Already a member of the NYT, he is without doubt headed for even greater things and anyone who watched him walk on to the stage cool as a cucumber and deliver a breathtaking performance in Torbay this week will agree it was outstanding.
Now officially Plymouth and Torbay Seniour Acting champ!
The saying goes that “A hard work ethic beats talent every time and Ethan fortunately has both in bucket loads! 🙌
