Congratulations Sophia and Angelos! Their wedding reception last month was at and now the happy couple are back from their destination second wedding and have their painting, I’m happy to share it with you here.

As the setting of popular television series Downton Abbey, it’s a very well-known, iconic building, so I didn’t want to simplify it too much. However it has a lot of lines and recesses in the way of windows and decorative detail, so I adopted a more illustrative style, using a liner paintbrush, allowing more flexibility.

Sophia was phenomenal in her fabulous peacock-blue wedding gown and Angelos quite the cool cat in his long coattails and pinstripe trousers. What a beautiful pair, I loved painting them!

A fabulous ceremony exit Corey and Dan’s wedding was full of unique, personal touches, from their musical friends’ performances to the flock of hanging origami cranes, lovingly made by themselves.

In our video consultation, they mentioned how the ceiling beams create an Art Deco style setting to the room, so I made sure to feature these in the painting and aimed to get their matrix looking mathematically sound. I also wanted to show the texture of the skylights’ frosted glass. Similarly, I love how the real texture of the canvas shows the texture of Dan suit. So, instead of applying thick paint in my usual impasto style, I ran my brush over it lightly to show this up.

On a similar note, IMHO the best way to improve as a portrait artist is to challenge yourself. So from of all the photos I took of this gorgeous pair, I chose to paint the one where Corey was tilting her head back, laughing and looking at Dan. You must foreshorten the face correctly to achieve a credible head-tilt!

Ria and Aran’s beautiful wedding 🧡 This part in the ceremony is Saptapadi, which means seven 'steps before fire'. Each step, aka phera, is a circuit around the sacred fire, which represents the fire deity Agni, the primary witness of a Hindu marriage.

I love that this couple chose a large canvas size, 20“ x 30“ so I could paint so much detail, including their RA monogram, beautifully embroidered within a heart on Ria’s sleeve.

Perspective is key in creating the illusion of a 3D space on a 2D surface. Each of the four pillars were completely covered in flowers, so I made the back ones darker to differentiate them from the front ones. Texture is also key, see the reel below for how I applied paint to show the fluffy carpet.

This beautiful couple looked so contented, I hope I captured this in their portraits.

Ludmilla and Adrien’s romantic fairytale castle wedding! Such a beautiful couple in a beautiful setting - feeling blessed!

Their 16” x 20” painting was completed at the event.

I worked all morning and afternoon, painting the castle and entertaining a lot of interest from the general public. It was great to spread the word about Live Painting and to hear stories about Hever Castle that people had learnt on their visit.

In the afternoon, I moved to the Loggia in the Italian gardens for the ceremony, where I composed Ludmilla and Adrien into the foreground and added a bit more detail to the castle. It was a gorgeous setting, I loved painting out there though when it got chilly I moved indoors to the Guthrie Pavilion to paint with the guests during their wedding breakfast.

It was a long day but a dreamy one in a fairytale setting and I was resolute about completing their painting so they could keep it at the castle with them.

Charlotte and Amy’s wonderful wedding at Hellingly’s Blackstock Country Estate was such a joy to paint. It was so lovely to be around such warm, cheerful families and friends and wanted to show the love of both sets of parents in the painting.

I spent a lot of time painting the wooden beams, though my challenge was the light source, with doors on both the left and right of the ceremony, the shadows cast inwards instead of in one direction as one may imagine from a single light source. However, this serendipitously caused a lovely shaded area around the brides to create a strong contrast for their colourful confetti.

Simran and Harry’s first dance was spectacular! A runway lead to the dancefloor with fireworks and dry-ice… they were truly sensational, Simran’s beautiful gold adorned with feathers flaying-out as they danced. I’m so happy they chose this special moment for their painting!

The decor was incredible too, the most challenging part of this painting was the decoration on the right, which was foreshortened because I was viewing it from an angle. I must’ve painted it about five times before it looked right to me!

The most magnificent thing of all was their joy, which was wonderful to behold and I hope I have conveyed it here. I’ve included some progress videos by the lovely Mark Faduola

I’m so thrilled to have recently reconnected with the wonderful Melanie Cantor - author, presenter and agent to the stars. We first met at London’s Fresh Art Fair in 2003, where she purchased one of my 8 x 6ft paintings and gave me confirmation that I could be a vendable artist.

Melanie has also collected a couple more of my pieces over the years. I remember being in total awe of this charismatic, highly successful wonder-woman who was interested in my work and I’m so happy that she’s still inspiring people today with her books.

A magical day This romantic setting was perfect for the culmination of a wonderful love story!

The multitude of different textures in nature fascinate me - on tree bark, water, grass, stone, wooden structures - and I paint with MANY layers to achieve the like. I feel very honoured to have been asked to paint this stunning wedding ceremony at Stockbrook Manor. The South Indian Hindu décor looked sensational, the deep colourful roses reflecting M’s deep-pink saree. I’ve painted a special moment, M and S stepping-out from their wedding Mandap as newlyweds. Congratulations to A and A! I painted their first dance live at their fabulous wedding reception. I loved how her beautiful teal dress splayed out in folds as he spun her around…and the way she tilted her head back to smile at her new husband over her shoulder.

The diamond-shaped dance-floor was adorned with their unique bespoke logo, their initials in gold, mirrored and intertwined with gold specks splaying from it like paint. You’ll need to scroll to see this as I’ve composed the couple centrally, obscuring their logo so much that only the gold flecks remain visible in the composition.

I was asked to paint this piece as an anniversary gift from K to his beautiful wife. He sent over some photographs of their stunning scene and we discussed what would make the best composition for a painting. I used a cool grey to offset the warm peach and pinks of their outfits, unified by the green foliage.

Happy Leap Day 2024! Since the 5th century BC, it’s been “Ladies’ Privilege” day, when women are permitted to propose to their lovers. According to Irish folklore, St. Brigid wanted the church’s blessing for women to propose to their partners who were dragging their heels! St. Patrick agreed that this could happen - but only every 7 years. St. Brigid bargained him down to every 4 years, on February 29th.

If you’re proposed to today, you’re permitted to decline but don’t ruin the 25-century-old tradition, treat her to a pair of silk gloves as compensation!

Leap Day has recently become a popular wedding day (contesting even Valentine’s Day). If you married on 29th February, you may be celebrating your 5th wedding anniversary 20 years later!

I painted this for the Buckle Bunker Studio to celebrate 3 years of production, fundraising, live-streaming & parties!

Here’s Marlo (left) with Danny, who founded the Buckle Bunker as a place to share a passion for Drum’n’Bass music with friends…. & over the past 3 years, it’s grown into a whole community.

The studio serves as a platform for both upcoming & established DJs & MCs to do what they love; parents bring their artistic teenagers, who are getting into DJing/MCing to help & encourage them to showcase their talents. From time-to-time some of the scene’s big names also pass through the doors to partake & to support the good cause. Including legends DJ Brockie (Steven Dunkno) & RatPack.

The studio also participates in regular charity work, notably Raving 4 a Reason (check out the amazing work Hazel Verleta has achieved here) but is also part of a wider network, bringing like-minded people together in these tumultuous times, through a love of music 🎶🫶🥁🎤🎵🎧

What a wonderful wedding reception at Stock Street Farm Batn, Coggeshall. Our beautiful bride here made the table décor with seasonal wildflowers & pumpkins, which suited the rustic vibe of the barn. Part of a disused circus tent made a fantastic backdrop for this scene, complimenting the wooden beams & parquet floor 🎪
Even though they are posed here during their first dance, this beautiful sweet young couple look so in love that it appears that we (the viewer) are looking candidly upon an intimate moment between them.
Thanks to our bride’s sisters, who hired me as a surprise for both the happy couple & their guests, whose interest in the live painting I’m also grateful for 🥰

A special moment by the fountain after their Beautiful nikkah ceremony. I arrived early to take in the scenery & admire the deer, which I added into the composition as I saw them. The fountain looked so majestic, reflecting H & T’s regal-looking pose, heads tilted in admiration for one-another. I enjoyed recreating the textures of the stone, both paving & fountain. H & T looked resplendent, her dress adorned with the most incredible, intricate detail.

What a wonderful Christmas wedding reception Tim proposed to Kate in front of the Christmas tree last year & so their painting alludes to at least two amazing Christmas memories, with many more to come now they’ve tied the knot. Winnie & Stanley, their furry companions, were a valued part of the wedding party & so it’s only right for them to feature in the composition. I enjoyed chatting to guests about how the painting was progressing & was so happy when Kate’s mother remarked that I’d captured a likeness as “she does tilt her head like that!” - thank you, I’m appreciative that I got to join in with such a merry occasion.

It’s a pleasure to share this painting of Grace and Ethan on their magical autumnal wedding day I wanted to paint them in a candid pose to suit their down-to-earth nature (and general coolness!) I loved mixing paints to replicate all the different shades of green I could see amongst the foliage.

It was so lovely to return to to paint at Manisha and Theepan’s stunning Hindu wedding ceremony. I love this part when they exchanged garlands, they looked so happy and I aimed to capture this joy in the painting.

For a personal touch, I painted Theepan’s late father into the composition from photographs, as though he was there sharing this special moment with them. That’s one of the magical things about painting, materialising a vision without limitation. It was a wonderful wedding, thank you for having me paint your beautiful families.

Studying Fine Art in Leicester really broadened my horizons as an artist. From a background of life drawing at Southend College, new doors were opening as we were encouraged to dispel with the figurative and embrace the abstract!After years of fixating on Leicester’s city walls (graffiti, bricks, concrete, posters ripped off and postered over again) I still love experimenting with possibilities of paint and favour impasto style, due to the textures I can create by applying thick paint layer-over-layer. My method’s not ideal for live painting, due to the lengthy drying time when applying thick paint (plus that I’m essentially painting every part of the canvas about four times) but I make do by turning my attention to another part of the composition while the former’s drying. Thank you Kean Booth @keaneboothweddingfilms for sharing your film footage of me painting @southfarmweddings in April. Kean is a a very talented film maker. As an artist, I appreciate his mastery of light, colour and composition. I know how much time it takes me to make an Instagram Reel, setting images to music (a LOT) and I’m in awe of the work that must go into such high quality films as his. Here’s me painting in Ilford again, always nice to visit my family’s Manor!

I’ve been painting with a palette knife today, when you’re painting bridal dresses with a lot of fabric, this is a great way add texture. So far I’ve painting this piece with a Ben Nicholson style abstract background, though it’s crying out for some extra detail over the top (I’ll most likely post more videos later of me doing this!).
