It’s going to be a late one tonight setting up Friends of North Baddesley Infant School fireworks event! We’ve been very busy setting up floodlights, festoon and speakers - in fact the rig is going so well we’ve earnt ourselves a quick pitstop and a recharge with a cup of tea and a few hobnobs (other biscuits are available) - see you all tomorrow for the big show!

I promised exciting pictures of cables being pulled in late in the evening! A few from the start of the Southampton Christmas Market build this week! Now I’ve been spotted on top of various shops including Poundland and Primark. Matt was also looking rather pleased after we managed to fly a nice heavy bit of 125A cable across the highstreet to a tree 💪 And last of all we do love it when a tree sprouts a 63A supply for us to use 😂 more exciting updates to come soon…

When our temporary electrics need a permanent supply we have solutions! Of course one of the big benefits to us being “proper electricians”, is we can actually install “Big Sockets” as they are known, ready for us to rock up and plug in some temporary gear when we need to! we have just done a lovely little installation at North Baddesley school ready for some of their events this side of Christmas! Of course lots of “big red and big blue sockets” being installed everywhere we go for Christmas lighting and markets too!

Well the weather was certainly a bit nicer yesterday… We have been in Southampton planning for a new job coming our way this winter! More of the not so bright and sunny pictures of us installing cables at 11pm coming soon…

And we’re off! Always a moment where we have to make sure we have absolutely everything for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Dash in the Dark IOW event! Tomorrow we setup the same event on the island we did two weeks ago on Southampton Common. We’ve got 2 vans of gear and we’ve still got the important designated tea urn cable in the case, the rest of the gear isn’t as important as that. Huge PA system, trussing arch, moving heads galore and most importantly a packet of bourbons.

Darker nights are definitely coming…. This week we’ve been back at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College lighting up the campus for their open events. Over 600m of led festoon lighting and 50 LED par cans were used to light the communal areas of the site. The events were a great success and the lighting provided both an atmosphere and functional use throughout the grounds!

We’re going to be back making a noise at North Baddesley schools fireworks this year! Friends of North Baddesley Infant School do a fantastic job organising this event. It’ll be our 4th year providing the site power, lighting and of course our impressive PA system for the fireworks show from Pyrotastic Fireworks which is to be set to music from films… We’d better get to work on making this 15 minute music masterpiece then!

Some photos from Saturday with the Southampton Dash in the Dark raising money for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance! More than 800 runners took part and have raised over £25k for the charity, we love being involved in providing all the power, sound and our stunning light show as it brings us so much joy, even more so when the sun comes out in the afternoon too!

Definitely not an attempt at an Art Attack special, just enjoying the lovely warm evening still festooning! A certain colour combination, which could only be used for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance for the Dash in the Dark events coming up. This Saturday we’ll be on Southampton Common lighting up the night sky, followed shortly by the Isle of Wight event.

Festoon, festoon and more festoon… darker nights are coming, so we’re making the most of the sunshine today with testing & prepping a load of festoon for up and coming events and installations! Shout out to our local friends, KES Power & Light Ltd for always helping us with new products and repairs to our existing stock!

Happy September everyone! Now we have another string to our bow… not made very publicly obvious as this stuff does just appear at some of our events. We provided this 100v line PA made up of weather-resistant music horn speakers and some long throw horns for the large car park area for East Tytherley Country Fayre. We can semi-dry hire this equipment, so we setup, test and show the client how to operate and then return to pack up after the event. We have a bespoke control unit made for operating, complete with a wireless microphone, cd and solid state player, making this the perfect system for an outside event like this one… We were delighted to hear today that the event was such a huge success and our PA could be heard all across the land!

I finally managed to have a week off away from all the cable and lights… but looking back a couple of weeks ago we were providing all temporary power, generators and loads of lighting in this garden for a huge private festival! We loved the lighting the backline of trees to make it feel like something from Glastonbury, to give you a scale the first photo is over 300m away from the trees!

That concludes Southampton Mela Festival 2024! Having been involved with Art Asia since 2016, Mela has always been an event we provide power and lighting services for. This year the site has been rearranged which gave us new challenges to overcome, but we got there… it’s been lots of long hours but it was totally worth it for a very successful event Saturday! Miles of cable, 6 gennys, more distribution units than you can imagine to power 3 stages, over 20 caterers with some demanding as much power as a fully equipped restaurant kitchen! Not to mention last minute festoon and flood lighting additions due to a later show time finish this year! Now to unload/load tor the next one and try and get some sleep in between…

Power and Generators galore this week! Dont think I’ve had one day of not moving them around from site to yard to site again… Today we start building Southampton Mela Festival with only 2 days to go until the huge one day show is open in Hoglands Park Southampton! Lots to do, but I did have time to squeeze in a quick visit to Sparsholt College this morning, to do a simple generator and power install for an event tomorrow and get some nice countryside views on the way too!

Summer? What’s that then? 🤦‍♂️ It’s been a very wet de-rig of Street Food Circus Southampton today. All we can do is hope for better weather and look back on the few sunny photos I took Saturday afternoon… Even Poppy wasn’t impressed with the wet lights and cables today when she came down to visit her Dad.

Despite the weather tonight, Southampton Street Food Circus is a go! Working long in to the night yesterday installing hundreds of meters of festoon, uplighting of trees and lots and lots of power of course! Here are some photos of the setup before the gates opened tonight. Tickets are still available so come and enjoy some great tasting food (sampled by myself) and good music tomorrow or Sunday!
