For those of you wondering what the milk cartons were for, here’s a quick update from last week’s post.
The cartons were secured to a metal frame which was then wrapped in chicken wire. The cartons were then used to provide a water source for the foliage and flowers which were pushed through the wire and into the carton filled with water. This is much more environmentally friendly and can be used again and again.

Foam free mechanics for Saturday’s wedding. I don’t use oasis for any of my arrangements. It’s very bad for the environment and does not biodegrade. Instead, the microplastics it contains get into our waterways and has a huge negative impact on our marine life.
These single use plastic milk cartons are not single use anymore. They’ve now got a new purpose in my floral mechanics ☺️
Want to know what this is going to be? All will be revealed later in the week 😉

It’s wedding week!
Five more sleeps til and tie the knot 💒
It’s going to be a busy week for me prepping for the big day, starting with the confetti which I’m busy boxing up.
Eek! Exciting!

It’s been emotional today burying my mum’s only brother, David.
I had the huge honour of doing the flowers, including the coffin topper and decorating the church - all without the use of oasis, floral foam, which has devastating effects on the environment. I have been following who have helped inspire me to create these floral tributes using only sustainable methods.
The coffin topper was made by my husband and is simply a wooden box containing 10 jam jars held in place with a frame to stop the jars moving and covered in chicken wire with a non slip mat on the base (see pics).
I have to admit my heart was in my mouth as they lifted the coffin out of the hearse but thankfully it all went smoothly.
All the flowers were grown by me with the addition of blooms from my mum’s and David’s garden. It just felt so right, so personal and so kind to the environment as the box can be used over and over again and definitely better than single use plastic.
In addition to that, I spoke to a local garden club this evening and told them all about it, hoping they too will spread the word on sustainable floristry.
Special thanks to Gill for working tirelessly to bring us all into the 21st century.

I’ve had a foraging day. Apart from the alchemilla and cornflowers, everything in this wild bouquet was picked from the roadside around Alkborough.
Sometimes we don’t appreciate what mother nature gives us. She has created something beautiful ❤️

Daucus, or wild carrot, my favourite flower in the garden at the moment.
It hasn’t been easy to grow. A mixture of wet weather, slugs and probably my heavy clay soil. Daucus is an umbellifer, from the parsley family. I just think it’s so pretty. I love it 🥰

Of course these particular blooms will be long gone but hopefully more will follow.
In another 5 weeks there’ll be plenty to pick for
Crikey, that’s flown by! Not long now 💒 🌺🥂

Farewell flowers today for a wonderful, intelligent human being who was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
I’m truly honoured to have been a part of your final journey. RIP Bri 💙 xx
These flowers were all garden grown here in Alkborough and have a zero carbon footprint. Bri would’ve loved that!

This is my new (old) flower cart which has been lovingly restored by my husband over the winter months.
It’s been sat in a garage for over 30 years and unfortunately had been eaten by wood worm. However, he managed to save most of the original features, the wheels, undercarriage, handles and sign writing.
It was originally a fruit and veg cart which stood on the roadside daily, selling the family’s home grown produce.
I can’t wait to start using it again.
I love it 😍

I was very upset to discover that my beautiful wisteria appears to have died 😭
It was covered in flower buds and for no reason they’ve all gone brown and there’s no sign of life.
It’s five years old and is on a south facing wall. It’s flowered every year since I planted it.
I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt but any ideas please

I was up with the dawn chorus this morning. It’s a chilly start but thankfully no frost!
I’ll shortly be heading out to the potting shed to sow more seeds for .
I’ve already sown lots of seeds and have them growing in the greenhouse but I want to make sure I’ll have enough. Sowing in succession will hopefully ensure a plentiful supply.
🤞🏼Fingers crossed, the weather is kind to us this year - no heatwaves, high winds or heavy rain pleeeaaase 🙏

PS, I’ll be listening to the on BBC Radio Lincs at 12.20 today. Jayne (one of the presenters) will be joining our gardening club this evening to talk about something I’m also passionate about, sustainability and fruit & veg 🥒 🌽 See today’s story for more details.
Happy Wednesday!

I’ve been busy pricking out seedlings and potting on into bigger pots this afternoon. It’s still chilly outside and I’m conscious that if I plant out too early these will be zapped by Jack Frost or gobbled up by an evening slug army! To give them a better chance of survival, they can stay in the greenhouse a bit longer.
The plants you see here are ammi major and ammi visnaga.
I will be doing a further sowing of ammi to make sure there is enough for towards the end of April 😉

More rain overnight. It’s wearing a bit thin now! We need some ☀️ 🙏 When the sun comes, I’ll be praying for rain 😆 Us gardeners are never happy!
Anyway, I thought I’d share with you the view from my bedroom window, now that the log stack is complete. I’m not sure I’ve located it in the right place though as I can’t see my lovely glasshouse from my living room window anymore 😕 but there’s one thing for sure, I won’t be relocating it!
Enjoy your weekend. Hope it’s a dry one! ☔️😎xx

Happy Mother’s Day to all you lovely ladies out there. It matters not if you’re a mum yourself, you’re still very special.
Here’s my mum. She’s nearly 85 (she won’t be happy I’ve told you that 😂) but she’s absolutely marvellous. She goes to the gym 3 times a week, still does everything herself including a big garden, still sowing and growing. She’s been a huge inspiration to me and I love her dearly.
Have a special day ladies, whatever you’re doing 🌺🌼 xx

If anyone has one of these spring feeders, please take it down asap as they can be death traps for birds.
The feeder was given free when with Peckish Complete Energy Ball tubs for birds. Peckish recalled the feeder in June after reports of birds being harmed, but some are still available in shops.
