Cupids in Nooses : Anti-Valentine's Festival

Cupids in Nooses : Anti-Valentine's Festival Here lies Cupids in Nooses - Anti-Valentine's Festival. Until we meet again. WHAT
We'll be hosting live music interjected with poetry, prose and comedy.
(1)

The last 2 years have been a resounding success so we are back to offer more of the same and more of the other. WHEN
Held over Anti-Valentine’s weekend Fri 10th/Sat 11th/Sun 12th February in the year 2012 at the Rude Shipyard (89 Abbeydale Rd) with the launch party held at Hagglers Corner (Queen Road) Sheffield. They’ll be tears in jars, broken hearts, dead flowers, fancy dress, balloons, cake, me

als for one, cupids in nooses, literature and our world famous poetry competition. WHY
Bored of industries commercialising love and turning our feelings into commodities, we decided to go against the grain and hang Cupid. Don't buy us flowers, cards or take us to the movies just because Interflora, Hallmark and Disney say so. We've got plenty of love and good times to give at Cupids in Nooses. Sod the schmaltz, we just want to have fun. We are combining the Anti-Valentine festivities with the launch of The Rude Shipyard Co-operative. The Rude Shipyard Crew will be taking over the place and transforming our loved cafe and bookshop into a workers co-operative. LINE UP

LAUNCH PARTY
We are particularly gleeful to announce that we are launching Cupids in Nooses 2011 with THE HEARTBREAK HOEDOWN! On Friday 10th February at Hagglers Corner with the amazing Cut a Shine causing feet to move and hearts to pound. We also have The Hot Soles, The Payroll Union and Drop The Bomb DJs to create a right stonking knees up - this is going to be all about the dancing. There will be live music and DJ's until the wee hours. Cut A Shine is a London based troupe of traditional musicians, dynamic dancers and crazy callers determined to spread the word that the Hoedown is a’happening. From Spitalfields to Sheffield, from Amnesty to Bestival, Cut A Shine are putting ceilidh dance back on the map – whether at sell out dances across London or the top summer festivals. This “Anarchic Hillbilly Barn Dancing Squad” host a rip-roaring, thigh-slapping, pavement-stomping, exhilarating, heart thumping, blood pumping barn dance show. Whilst the banjo and the fiddle set the tone, the callers instruct any audience through do-si-do’s and strip the willows, until all are involved! See you at The Hearbreak Hoedown! WORD LIFE POETRY:
This year’s poetry section will be hosted by Sheffield’s beloved Word Life Poetry. They will beckon listeners with their plethora of talent. It is bound to be bountiful. Hey Cupid, Pass Me That Cupcake
“This Valentines, I chose to party while also indulging in one of my big love affairs – cake! Held at the wonderfully-eclectic bookshop & cafe,The Rude Shipyard, Sheffield, Cupids In Nooses was a lively two-day festival of live music, a poetry competition, high teas, magical interludes with a touch of burlesque thrown in for good measure. Billed as an Anti-Valentines event, there was still lashings of heart and soul going round, especially as Cupids in Nooses raised money for Sheffield Committee to Defend Asylum Seekers (CDAS) through donations. Keep on spreading the love!”
