One of 6 trailer loads harvested yesterday - filled with delicious colour and scent. Stars of the show are the dahlias, supported by phlox, helichrysum, scented pelargonium, snapdragons and alstromeria. All the flowers have been taken back to the barn, quality checked for a second time, counted, recorded, stems recut and placed in cool clean water to condition over night. This weekend we open our gates to everybody to celebrate British Flowers Week and to share our beloved farm with you.
🛍 We have a range of fabulous stall holders; perfect for finding gifts and plants for your garden. We have an art exhibition from Marta Lichocinska in the barn which will be decorated with seasonal flowers from the field.
💐 Katie and the team will be giving floristry demonstrations throughout the day.
🍷 We have a range of food and drinks available and we recommend bringing a blanket so that you can have a picnic and enjoy the fantastic views from the barn.

Our week at Featherstone’s… thank you for all your valentines orders, we’ve been really busy in the barn and on the field this week, so many seeds are bursting into life, it’s been a joy to start the hardy annuals and be pricking them out already!

Wreaths are such a symbol of Christmas, welcoming you home, bringing smiles to the face of passers by and letting your visitors know you are welcoming them in to Christmas.
Natural foliage wreaths created with a mix of luxious leaves from local growers, workshops to create your own, or all the ingredients you need to make your own available from Featherstone's.
We've spaces left in only two of our workshops- Friday 24th at 2pm & Saturday 9th at 2.30pm all other workshops are now fully booked.
If you want to make your own wreath then our farm gate stand will be up and running from Thursday 24th, with foliage, the accessories, moss and more, as well as some ready made wreaths.
Our market is open 1st, 2nd and 3rd of December and we will also have an extensive array of foliage for you to purchase for decorating your house.

All our wreaths are made of locally sourced foliage, our accessories are either reusable or compostable and we've saved our orange slices from doing an extra trip around the world by buying wonky fruit and drying it at Featherstone's HQ #sustainablechristmas

stems were harvested from the field today, with more going back to the barn tomorrow. Producing this many stems week in week out requires a constant cycle of sowing, planting, watering, feeding, harvesting, selling, clearing out, replanting and caring for the soil.
The high heat has made harvesting a.little.more stressful but luckily our lovely big cool barn is the perfect place for all those cut flowers to rest, chill and drink before they start heading out the doors in the morning.
These blooms are destined for a huge variety of places, retail bouquets, buckets of flowers for events, flowers for florists to work their magic, and more.

We have really made the most of the sunshine today on the Featherstone’s Flower Farm…. 100s and 100s of plants have been planted into the beds…. From snapdragons, to rudebekia, to malope, to tanecetum just to name a few…. And the earlier sown crops are about to bloom…. Slightly feels like the calm before the storm when we will be harvesting 1000s and 1000s of stems each week - here comes summer!!

We've been busy at Featherstone's HQ this week planting out thousands of seedlings, sowing, arranging, delivering, harvesting the first of the tulips, admin and rescuing bats.
We are excited to announce that we will be throwing open the gates on Saturday 29th April for you to come for the day. There will be the pop up shop and cafe, plant and flower sales, demonstrations, and art from our artist in residence Tamsin.

Despite freezing rain, slimy soil and countless weeds we have finally tackled Block 12, one of the perennial patches in the field which has needed attention for quite some time.
We've weeded all 210m of bed, planted a few more perennials in the ground, mulched everything with compost and laid the paths. The compost will help keep the weeds down, feed the soil life and in turn help feed the plants. We saw such a difference between the health of the mulched plants versus those which weren't mulched last year, so we are hoping to have got all of our beds mulched by May.
We are really excited to see this plot be productive this year, perennials take a year or two to get going so we couldn't harvest much from here last year. There's a phrase for perennials; They sleep, creep then leap. As many of these went in during 2021, hopefully we'll see them 'leaping' this year.
