The Tithe Barn is the HQ of Featherstone’s, and an incredibly special place.

In our initial business plan, we thought we would need a working space about a 1/4 of this size - 3 years on and we are regularly heard saying “we need more space!” as will fill it with the harvest.

Being a Tithe Barn it is perfect for keeping the flowers cool while they condition and is a wonderful space to work in when we are creating designs for weddings and events or hosting workshops.

Few facts, figures and history for you:

🌸 The roof is 11m high to the apex (we have measured!)

🌸 The tile order was placed around 1460 meaning the barn is nearly 600 years old.

🌸 King Charles I & II held court here

🌸 Oliver Cromwell hid in the barn on his way to Wi******er

🌸 Apparently there is a gold bar buried in one of the walls!

Happy weekend!

It's been a productive week on the farm, we have had a rare week with no events, so we've managed to get lots of field work done. We've been clearing out beds, preparing them for planting out the biennials for spring flowers. We've been weeding, collecting seeds, and pricking out seedlings in the hope of a kind autumn bringing us extra harvests. We've planted out various late summer annuals, such as millet and scabious.

For next week's Bouquet of the Week we have selected only stems which will dry, meaning you can either keep them fresh for a week or keep fresh for a few days then hang somewhere dry and out of direct sun to keep them going for months!

Continuing our third birthday celebrations we thought we’d show you a few photos of the field in full flower (these are ...

Continuing our third birthday celebrations we thought we’d show you a few photos of the field in full flower (these are from the end of June).

That patch of bare Earth has been transformed into a hugely productive Flower Farm by us and our amazing team, family and friends.

A few facts and figures for where we are now:

🌸 This year we have cut 80,000 stems to fulfil orders creating gift bouquets, filling weddings with colour and scent, helping families to say farewell in a natural way, and bringing the joy of seasonal, sustainably grown flowers to local businesses.

🌸 The field now has 150 tonnes of mulch added to improve our soil - shifted by us and our trusty tractor Kubby.

🌸 In use we have 3 km of beds, with more being created all the time!

🌸 We now have over 40,000 plants on the field (and this is only going to increase over the winter with exciting sowing schedules ahead for 2025 crops!)

Thank you all for following along and supporting our journey, Jess and Katie x

Our incredible staff, family, friends and colleagues who make this job so exciting and rewarding. For this week's bouquet of the week, the theme has been inspired by our wonderful farmers working so hard to get the harvest in and the beautiful golden fields we are surrounded by.

It is created from zinnia, coreopsis, dahlias, sunflowers, strawflower, helenium, nigella pods, amaranth and cosmos. These are (some of) the fabulous seasonal flowers which are available from the field right now.

Creating an entrance way is one of our favourite parts of designing an event. The first impressions for your guests really set the tone for the rest of the celebration.

Here, our clients wanted the space to feel like a party, filled with flowers and colour, but not like guests were arriving at a wedding.

Using differing height plinths, varying containers, lanterns and potted plants we created this entrance way to lead the guests to the party (and the first glass of champagne!) 🥂

P.s. Flower wise - this event was at the very end of June.

If you are planning a celebration or event next year do get in contact - May, June and July are booking up quickly!

Over the past week, our field has transformed into a vibrant display of late summer colours. The lush green of spring has given way to the rich hues of high summer, with bronzed grasses and the bold, hot colours of dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers, snapdragons, phlox, and echinops.

We'll be bringing this taste of summer to Stockbridge's annual Trout 'n' About event. Come and find us on the high street near Hoxton's Bakehouse.

Late July, and everything is blooming with a whole new range of shapes and sizes. This week is a bumper snapdragon week, and the helichrysum is loving the slightly cooler damp weather. The bright blue of the cynoglossym is very welcome after our cornflower has just gone over. Bright colours are coming from all corners of the field.

We're still busy harvesting nearly every day from the field, trying to get a few thousand stems cut by lunchtime. It's busy work, and we filled three trailers full of flowers yesterday, which were all equally pretty!

We supply flowers to a wide variety of places, including gift bouquets to say thank you, Happy birthday, or thinking of you. To hotels, restaurants and bars, and to other florists who enjoy using the best of locally grown blooms.

Last Saturday we had the absolute pleasure of working with Wilds Events to create a beautiful wedding for K & D on the incredibly beautiful riverside at The Greyhound on the Test. It was the most glorious summers day, and as we arrived early in the morning the swans were nesting on the bank with their cygnets and there were many trout in the river, giving the wedding party plenty to fish in the morning!

We can't believe it's the last day of June!

Summer has properly started now, and we see that reflected in the flowers. Zinnia, dahlias, sunflower and scabious are all beginning, and we say goodbye to some of our beloved spring flowers such as ranunculus, sweet rocket, and anemones.

Now we are focused on irrigation, sowing biennials for next spring, planting out the tender annuals such as nicotiana, celosia, and the next successions of zinnia and cosmos.

We are looking forward to all our high summer events coming up!

We have glorious colours coming from the field at the moment, we've been cutting roses, zinnia, dahlias, sweet peas, and even the odd chrysanthemum!

Our harvesting list is now over 100 varieties long, which does sometimes make it rather hard to know what to choose! We love including those extra special ingredients to make our bouquets and arrangements unique to both time and place.

This week, we've had at least many different favourite flowers. Campanula lactiflora, or milky bellflower, is brief in appearance but so beautiful. Achillea millefolium (yarrow) and its range of colours from soft yellow and peaches through to bright cerise makes the prettiest row on the field and is incredibly productive. We love it so much we now have 200ft of it! Larkspur is always so delicate and light, and sweet peas, well, they are just other-worldly with their heavenly scent.

We would love to know your favourites from the garden right now!

We are entering into another beautiful period on the field. Full of new varieties as we say goodbye to the last of the spring flowers and welcome in the summer blooms.

The polytunnel is too hot now come midday. Watering takes priority and the nights are consistently warmer. Achillea and cosmos have started along with the first zinnia, strawflowers and the summer snapdragons. Its exciting times here, the British grown flowers are simply divine.

Our Story so far...

Heathercroft Meadow is a small-scale flower farm run by friends, Michelle and Jess. The idea for the farm was born in January 2019, inspired by a piece of land in a stunning location. Follow us as we go on our exciting journey from a mossy field to blooming pastures!

Flowers grown by us are freshly picked and locally delivered, saving thousands of travel miles. We grow in as eco-friendly a way as possible using organic methods and as low waste as possible. Flowers will be wrapped in biodegradable, UK made, brown kraft paper, plant ties will be natural and added to the compost after using.

What sets our flowers apart? Our flowers have a beautiful natural movement to them and they are full of scent. We also use grasses and seed heads in our arrangements making you feel like you’ve just been walking through a meadow. Because our flowers haven’t had to travel anywhere then we can give you something a bit special. They are cut straight into water and are as fresh as can be giving you the longest vase life possible.

In 2019 we broke ground, put up fences and began trading in July. We had a true abundance of flowers which our customers loved. We had a stand at Trout ‘n’ About, Stockbridges annual Food and Produce festival, ran 6 successful Christmas Wreath workshops in December and supplied flowers and arrangements to many people for their homes and special events.
