THE PEWSEY BELLES LADIES CHOIR

The choir members have one aim – to have fun singing together. They bring their enthusiasm to rehearsals and to many fund-raising events throughout the year, in summer and in winter, in fields, under canopies, even – sometimes - indoors! Occasionally they enjoy sharing a stage and a song with other local choirs.

They sing a range of songs dating from the 15th century to the present day. They sing for the love of it and are blessed with a talented musical team to support them.

NICK HARPER

Son of the legendary UK singer songwriter Roy Harper, and Avebury Rocks founder, Nick was born in London but raised in Wiltshire. Having played the guitar from the age of 10 and surrounded by the likes of Keith Moon, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Dave Gilmour as he grew up, it was no surprise when Nick made his recording debut on his father's Whatever Happened to Jugula? in 1985.

Nick's talent and energy entranced Roy's fans and it was inevitable that he would begin touring and recording in his own right. The 1994 EP Light at the End of the Kennel was swiftly followed by his powerful 1995 debut long player Seed prompting The Independent to describe him as "hugely talented".

After a chance meeting with Squeeze frontman and songwriter Glenn Tilbrook in 1996, Tilbrook was so impressed that he offered Nick a job playing with and supporting Squeeze and promptly signed Nick to his own label, Quixotic Records. Following tours in the UK, USA and Japan, Nick recorded the 1998 album Smithereens with Tilbrook as producer. He teamed up with Tilbrook again on 2000's highly acclaimed album Harperspace. This is the album that confirmed his position at the forefront of a new generation of British Acoustic Performers.

To call Nick a superlative singer/songwriter could put his highly lauded guitar talent in the shade, and to call him a guitarist's guitarist might slight his distinctive, soulful voice and passionate songs. Not forgetting the wild ride that is one of his live shows - from personal introspection to biting political satire via a charmingly caustic wit that would make Groucho Marx proud. He often segues from his own compositions to well-loved covers he makes his own - he takes on Presley, Zappa, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin, Monty Python and Public Enemy (yes, on an acoustic guitar). He also has the alarming ability to break guitar strings almost by sheer force of will… and then change them without dropping a beat.

TALK IN CODE

The band’s name is derived from the idea that everyone relates to songs differently, each taking their very own meaning (or code) to cherish from the lyrics of a song. Supported by carefully crafted shimmering soundscapes and delivered with soaring vocals, their lyrical themes have a sense of mystery intact that helps the band stay true to the roots of their name.

From the heart of the South West this quartet bring their many influences to the table to deliver the sound you here today. Rather than citing whole collections of any one artist as influences, it’s individual songs that inform their song writing from way back to present day chart toppers!

BREEZE

Breeze is a 4-piece band playing mainly rock covers from the 60’s to the present day. We comprise of Ozzy Rockstar Osbourne (lead vocals and rhythm guitars), John Man With A Van DeRosa (bass, vocals and ace van driver!), Dennis Get Off My Land Ford (lead guitar and farm owner) and Rob What You Snaring At Cooper (drums, vocals and drum tutor!). We have been playing for many years as a 5 piece covers band in and around the Swindon area. Due to personnel changes, Rob joined us about 3 years ago and we now function mainly locally for friends and family functions. We started a small festival some years ago which started as playing to raise money for a local playgroup in our village hall. This developed to larger venues in the farm barns and eventually to the farm garden and then to the fields where four years ago we had Katie Tunstall and Vintage Trouble as headliners. The name for our festival is Summerbreeze (the clue is in the name! All monies made from our festivals over the years have gone to various charities, some local and some more international. We welcome this year’s prospect hospital event to Liddington Warren Farm and hope it is a great success.

DREW BRYANT

Influenced by Bowie, Lennon and Morrissey, as well as lesser known artists such as Jonathan Richman and Fred Neil, Drew offers intelligent perceptive lyricism and spins that into an amusing and yet emotive sound.

Zig zagging up and down through the octaves his live performance is delicate and engaging, often coaxing his audience into a hypnotised silence.

BYRON UK

In early 90’s suburban Britain, after driving from Kenya to the UK and being one of only three mixed race children in a 10 mile radius, son of a Brixton father and German mother Byron grew up in what could be described as absolute pandemonium!

Byron has the soul of a poet and the unrelenting fight of a modern revolutionary, his aim is to inspire and make a change on a deeper level by sharing his life through music with no restrictions.
