We are excited to integrate the shared learnings, experiences and inspiring ideas that were brought back this year from Amsterdam Dance Event Green 🌟

It is so important for our team to represent and contribute ideas from sustainability initiaitves we are part of in Ireland, as well as receive input and reflections from the European and UK festival network ➰

One moment that really stood out to Áine, Sustainability Consultant at Native, was at the Green Contracting panel discussion where Meegan Jones posed a question as to who was in the room, and was positively surprised that mostly sustainability officers, coordinators and managers were present. This is a role which, previously was new or few and far between and it is clearly gaining momentum - How awesome is that? 🥳

We were delighted to produce The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) annual conference at the The Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny Co Donegal.

¨Working Together for Nature¨ was the ¨why¨ behind the conference and we wanted to support NPWS employees to connect deeply with their collaborative vision for nature. To do this we assisted the NPWS in curating a fantastic programme of panellists and presenters; organising a field trip where participants got outdoors exploring the Donegal area; and incorporating plants in the presentation and conference spaces 💚

To celebrate the amazing work being done by the NPWS to protect, restore and regenerate native habitat all over Ireland, there were 27 key project posters on display at the venue, with time given to digest these and connect with colleagues 👏

At Native Events we know how powerful conferences can be in terms of communicating and upholding the integrity of an organisation's vision, as well as the connections that are formed.

When was the last time you made an invaluable connection through a conference or event? 🙌

The Guide to Plastic-free Festivals & Events has been shortlisted for the Pakman Awards under 'Best Single Use Plastic Initiative' category ♻ We are so excited for the awards ceremony tomorrow night!

Creating the Guide involved four reusable cup pilots, four carbon footprint reports and two industry consultations. We received wonderful feedback over the Summer season from people using the Guide to improve sustainability at their events. You can download the guide here: https://lnkd.in/eHyKtWuu

Thank you to the Regional Waste Management Offices and DECC for their collaboration on this initiative!

Don't miss another focused episode of The Green Room with Rediscovery Centre today 1.30pm on 103.2 Dublin City FM ♻

Step back in time with us today for a blast to a circular past! Tune in to 103.2 Dublin City FM at 13:30 as for our takeover of the Green Room.

Today we’re lucky to have Niamh joining us for a glimpse at repair in times gone by. Over 50 years ago, Niamh’s grandfather produced the RTE radio show Making and Mending, with a Q&A session addressing listener queries sent in by letter.

Though the original recordings are lost to history, Niamh has preserved her grandfather's meticulously typewritten and bound scripts, a thing of beauty in itself that offers a rare peek into a time when repairing was a way of life.

Our favourite segment, handtyped into the bound journal:
Coming into winter, the recipe for waterproofing leather shoes was much in demand.
“Boil together 1 pint of linseed oil,. ½ lb of mutton fat, ½lb of beeswax or paraffin wax and ½ lb of resin. Shred all the solid wax into the oil and powder the resin. Keep away from direct flame while boiling and still well. Use half the amount if you have a small family.” Similar recipes for waterproofing leather coats, including one that Donal says is 200 years old; turning unbleached calico or linen into oilskin and “showerproofing tweeds” are supplied!

Thank you so much to Niamh for joining us today for this very special segment.

It may not be by letter, but we’re carrying on the legacy from this 1960s radio show by answering your reuse and repair questions. Send your questions in to 857568452, and they could be answered on the airwaves as part of our Circular Living Agony Aunt special.

"It's as simple as trying to protect what we have left of our environment... but unfortunately there's a still a lot of misinformation, more fashion brands are attempting to incorporate sustainability, but unfortunately this seems to be more about an aesthetic approach, like making their collections from organic cotton - which is still mass production, destruction of biodiversity and the use of damaging pesticides to grow cotton fast..."

The Industry is the hot topic on this weeks episode of as host Megan Best chats with award winning designer Sarah O'Neill on the challenges facing designers based in Ireland - from funding to creative drain, manufacturing to ethics and how we could move from to a approach - championing home grown brands like McWilliam Bags and collectives like Dublin Independent Fashion Week
