Kobi pronam 🙏
The dawn of 9th may is very special not only for Bengal but across the globe as we remember kobi guru on his birth anniversary.
We believe that he is always blessing us omnipresent in our being, but on this auspicious occasion we present something very special only for our beloved robi thakur. For us Bengalis he's no less of god. But more than we worship his work, we fall in his magestic writings with each passing year, and every year we feel we don't know him enough, thus the quest to discover him begins soon after rabindra jayanti.

Indian-Contemporary dance has not had a bigger worshipper than the legendary duo - Uday Shankar and Amala Shankar....

Shrimati Amala Shankar, who was an exemplary Indian danseuse and choreographer, left for her heavenly abode this month.
She was one of the most pioneering female artists in the history of Indian Art and Culture.
For years, she has propagated the magnificent art of Modern Indian compositions, performing at reputed stages across the globe.
In 2011, Amala Shankar was awarded the Banga Bibhusan by the West Bengal government, for her contribution in the field of arts.

The legacy of the Uday and Amala Shankar Creative Dance Style, has passed through generations, and stands to be the most unique among all Indian Dance Styles.

Here’s sharing with you, a humble effort at paying homage to the immortal legacy of Shrimati Amala Shankar, with special narrations by Guru Pradipta Niyogi, Shrimati Shukla Kolay and Shrimati Subhra Mandal.

This video is a collaboration between dance institutes - Rigchhandam, Sahana and Beliaghata Sankalpa.

Years have passed, and Rigchhandam has been an integral to the journey of many little dancers... When they grow up their places aren’t vacated. Following their footsteps are those next in line, waiting to unleash their creativity!

With the blessing of Smt Subhra Mandal, we present our 6th choreography of this series.. It is a folk dance, which was previously performed in 2011 at our programme Ananda Alaap Angina by the present Senior Advanced girls, and now presented by the Saturday Junior batch!

Our 5th presentation is a light hearted, exuberant choreography, A Fishermen's dance and the track is part of our music for our next production.
The three participants are Nisha Arong, Ahana Patra and Kankanika, who have started their journey at Rigchhandam at very young ages !

The editing has been done by Koeli Mitter Dalmiya.

Rigchhandam has had quite a journey in the last few decades.

With the love and care of our Dance Director, Smt. Subhra Mandal, little girls have grown up to become accomplished dancers.
Presenting a Thumri performed beautifully by Aparajita Roy, who started her journey at Rigchhandam at five years of age.

The thumri is sung by Smt Deepabali Dutta, the renowned young classical vocalist, which Rigchhandam has previously performed at the International Music and Dance Festival held in Samarkand 2011.

Under the circumstances this year, our annual program had to be deferred, and it was disheartening...

However, creativity has different ways of expression !

We decided to host Rabindra Jayanti together, with performances from corners of New York to South Africa to India..This Live Streaming experience got us virtually together in solidarity and celebration !

A total of 479 views on YouTube in the last hours !!! Kudos to the joint efforts of all members of Rigchhandam !
