There are various types of internet scams that can target you financially. The most common type are investment scams which usually seem too good to be true and claim big profits with little to no risk of loss.
Crypto Scam - When you're looking into digital cryptocurrency companies and start-ups, experts recommend that you confirm that they're blockchain-powered, which means they track detailed transaction data. Some of the more common crypto scams are executed through imposter websites, fake mobile apps, bad tweets and other social media updates and scamming emails.
Ponzi schemes - A scammer will claim to be offering a legitimate investment, in reality they are taking money from one victim, keeping it, then using money from other victims in order to pay the first victim back.
Affinity fraud - preys on groups that trust each other, e.g: members of religious, social or cultural groups.
‘Boiler rooms’ - these are often teams of scammers who cold-call strangers offering non-existent and overpriced investments. They will later claim the investment has failed.
If this seems common sense to you, it may not be to others, especially children, the elderly or those who don’t use the internet very often. Help them out by warning them.
