Well, she was a weekend...and I think you will all agree that as it ALWAYS is, poker was once again, the winner.
With so much poker going on around the country this weekend, we are so thankful that you chose to come and play the game we love at our venue.
We'd like to congratulate all those who cashed this weekend and a special congratulations to Alex Baxter who managed to take the dub in both the Welcome Turbo and The Sunday Freezeout.
But this weekend belongs to Issa Metri, our 2023 UPW Main Event Champion. Metri went into Day 2 as the chip leader and didn't really let go of his lead much during the final two table battle. Heads up was a short affair when Metri called off Chad Ellwood's all-in pre and flopped most of the world with 10-4 , 2 clubs versus Ellwood's A2o. A club on the turn gave Issa Metri a winning flush, the trophy and the winners check.
With this weekend over, for those of you travelling, we hope you do that safely.
We have big plans for next year and can't wait to get things started for that.
Until then, once again, thank you all for your continued support and we will see you all next time.
- Dave, Duane, Jo, Vicky, Peter, Karen

Chad Ellwood moves all in from the big blind and Issa Metri decides to call with 10-4 suited. Chad has A-2 off. Chad flops an ace and Issa has flush and gut shot straight draws. 6 clubs seals it for Issa as he completes his flush and takes down the 2023 UPW Main Event Championship after starting the day as chip leader. Congratulations Issa!!

Chad takes second place after starting the day with the second lowest stack and survived a few flips early on. Such a great comeback from him.

Darton Tangihaere with AK vs Tom Dunn Pocket 10's. The flop looks good for Tom on a Q-5-4 board. Tom picks up a flush draw on the turn but his 10's are enough with Queen on the river.

21/10/2023

Chad Ellwood is all in with K4 spades and against Pit Boss Jaye Gee and his pocket Jacks.
The flop is dry and looking good for Jaye 2-7-2 rainbow. The turn is 6 of spades giving Chad his flush draw. 9 of spades on the river and Jaye Gee finishes in 6th place.

The very next hand Chad Ellwood moves all in and after flopping trip Aces. Issa has picked up another flush draw and just like the hand before, completes his flush by the turn. Two bug hands for Issa leaving two short stacks with very little options

After a hearty breakfast in the bistro, watching the AB's trounce the Argy's, 295 runners ascended the steps to the Kensington Room at the Petone Club to play some cards.
About 10 hours later, we had found ourselves our top 17, when two players found themselves out in the same hand. John Wylie bubbled and Phillip Taankink finished in 18th place.
With that said and done, here are the Final 17, their table and seat allocations and their chip stacks in order.
The club will be open in the morning for 'that other semi-final' with the 'Boks and the English. Cards fly in the Main Event at 9am, so if you could be up there by 8.45am so we can get photos and other housekeeping done, that would be fabulous. The Sunday Freezeout game starts at 10am.
There is no livestream of the Main Event this year but Tahu from will be posting updates on this page from 9am.
Looking forward to seeing you in just less than 12 hours.
