Despite the unpredictable weather, our team, contractors, and suppliers are still hard at work on-site and actively preparing for this weekend! 🛩️🎉
We understand that many of you are eagerly anticipating our plans, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding the weather. ☂️⛅🌦️🌧️ The weather is still constantly shifting, and it's still too early to make any definitive predictions. Today, multiple weather websites advised it’d rain, and apart from a light mist this morning, it’s been a steady but cloudy day. We, no doubt like yourselves, are vigilantly monitoring the situation.
There are numerous variables in play at the moment – from the amount of rain to wind and gust conditions. Our team are diligently working while keeping a keen eye on the skies and the forecasts.
📢 Stay tuned to our page and website for updates. We know this isn't much of an update compared to our last one, but our stance hasn't become much clearer. We'll be sharing another update tomorrow.
Let's keep our fingers crossed for clearer skies, but in the meantime, let the excitement build! 🌈🛩️

Did you know? The Kittyhawk was the third most produced of all USA WWII fighters, after the P-51 and P-47, with a staggering 13,740 built between 1939 and 1944!
Now, let's talk about ZK-CAG, the Kittyhawk coming to Wings! 🎉 It was a true hero recovered from a Papua New Guinea wreck, undergoing urgent battlefield repairs.

Wings Over Wairarapa Air Festival has a new date, the Masterton based festival that attracts tens of thousands from across Aotearoa as well as international visitors will now take place from 𝟐𝟒-𝟐𝟔 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑.
The festival was postponed this month due to the response and on-going recovery after Cyclone Gabrielle as well as the ongoing unpredictability of the weather.
Board Chairman and former Defence Minister Ron Mark shared that “after the decision to postpone it has been a priority for the team to work with our key stakeholders to secure a new date. With today’s announcement we can get planning underway again to deliver a world-class Air Festival based right here in the Wairarapa. Our board and management team are both humbled and grateful for the incredible support that we have received from our partners, stakeholders, ticketholders, and the wider community.”
The festival takes place every two years, drawing crowds with a large aircraft display. It was scheduled to take place from February 24 to February 26.
Wings General Manager Carla Steed, confirmed “ticket holders will automatically have their tickets transferred to the new date, whilst those who are unable to make the new date will have a 14 day window to request a full refund. We really appreciate the support we have received, and hope that the community continues to get behind the festival.”
As well as the spectacular air display programme, Wings Over Wairarapa Air Festival also features the Take Flight programme – an interactive STEM education programme that provides engaging activities and demonstrations to school aged children on the Friday and is also available for all visitors on Saturday and Sunday. The aim of the programme is to inspire and engage tamariki and rangatahi to consider STEM pathways, with a large focus on aviation and aerospace.

All tickets remain valid for the new dates announced. Please note, tickets already purchased will have February dates but the all-important QR code will continue to work.

Kia ora,
It is with sadness that the board of the Wings Over Wairarapa are announcing that they have postponed the Air Festival which was scheduled to be held at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton from February 24 – 26 2023.
The Festival was set to draw in the crowds in February with the biennial show delivering one of the largest displays of aircraft in New Zealand.
Board Chairman and former Defence Minister Ron Mark, shared how difficult the decision has been for organisers to postpone.
“The board and management team has been reviewing the evolving situation with the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle on the nation for some days. Being cognizant, of the level of devastation, and loss of life that has afflicted our neighboring regions and their communities, of where the priorities of the New Zealand Defence Force need to be at this time as well as the ongoing unpredictability of the weather, this is the right decision.”
“The health and safety of pilots, staff, visitors and all those involved over the three-day event continue to be our priority. Our thoughts are with those people who have been impacted by this severe weather event. Kia kaha.”
Ron Mark said, “an early postponement would also enable those attending time to adjust travel arrangements.”
Wings General Manager Carla Steed, says as soon as a new Festival date has been confirmed it will be shared with the public.
“We will be in a position to announce a new event date by 5pm, Sunday 26 February. We will not be processing refunds until the new date is announced and hope that people can still attend this incredible aviation event. When the new date is announced, ticket holders will be given the option at that point to transfer their tickets or request a full refund. “
“If you are scheduled to visit the Wairarapa for the weekend we highly encourage you to do so with so many attractions to see.” says Steed
Where to from here?
A new date will be announced by 5pm, Sunday 26th February 2023. When this new date is announced, ticket holders will be given the opportunity to transfer to the new event. While a new date is being finalised, we won't be processing any refund requests.

TAKE FLIGHT ANNOUNCEMENT - HARVARD 66
A chance to get up close and personal with a World War 2 Fighter Trainer Aircraft. It's a 1943 North American T6 Texan known more famously as THE HARVARD.
This particular aircraft was flown in our Royal Airforce for many decades before being retired. It's still in full flying status and during the air show it will be within the flight line meaning people will be able to see up close what's it’s all about.
And for those few wanting to get a once in a life time experience a crew will be there to sit you into the pilot seat of the cockpit while you get your hand on the controls!
