Raised here in the 90s before i was sent to my grandma to start school and since then I didn’t reconnect with the kids and the families here. Almost a decade ago, i started documenting this neighbourhood that raised me, and so much childhood memories been made here ( to be shared when I’m strong enough)

This panel will approach the issue of ‘identity’ through a multi-perspectival discussion of artistic and curatorial practices from the Majority World. Panelists are invited to focus on museums and other spaces and models of display in the built (and natural) environment, the visual and material culture of colonialism, racism, and asymmetric power relations, physical and epistemic violence, and the issue of memory.

I'm so happy to announce this great news 🔥.

For the past few years, it has been my dream and wish to see the thriving and recognition of Photography, an Art, which continuously serves, and stands by humanity, but is rarely acknowledged as deserved. My initial step of taking a camera, capturing images and sharing them was the first, while the establishment of the Kigali Center for Photography , as a hub to recognize and yet continuously inspire rising photographers and society was another successful step.

I'm so honored to announce the first edition of Kigali Photo Festival curated by Kampala-based independent curator Robinah Nansubuga under the theme “In Search of Relevance: Locality and Remediation” due to take place from 7 June 2019 to 16 June 2019 in Kigali, Rwanda.

www.kigaliphotofest.com

This is an artist-led festival founded by photographers—myself Jacques Nkinzingabo and a big brother I have known since the beginning of this journey , Mr Kibuuka Mukisa — to bring together other photographers from around the continent to build, support, and help communities in the crucial task of educating audiences about photography, and understanding of inclusiveness and authenticity within context.

Kigali Photo Festival is the first of many interventions by Kigali Center for Photography and supporting partners to bring together, grow and engage with photography as an art media on the continent.

Thanks to the team that have committed their heart on this and believed in us:

I realized it takes a time to decide which one to post first but it takes seconds to realize who match with your feelings as a photographer.

People ask how do i choose a person to photograph and i always find it hard for me to answer this.

it’s that face has something special to me , that beauty of the person or smile . ( If you’re Photographer, how do you answer this? )

This Photo were taken during the Assignment for WaterAid in Bugesera, we visited many secondary schools learning more about WaterAid ‘s programs to provide clean water in the schools.

First time i visited Gihembe refugee camp was in 2014 for volunteering work for my friends who were donating food and other materials to this Camp.

Went back recently for Poetry Competition in this Camp , a great initiative by . transpoesis creates a platform for poets in the camps through workshops and competitions.

I’m glad that i had opportunity to work on this competition, I’ve learned a lot . I learnt that we get inspired by the society we’re living in and the experiences we make/meet/ have/get.

Capt: An elder watching a group of refugees running to their shelters and room for the competition after heavy flog shifted the competition inside the hall , Gihembe refugee Camp.

Being on Assignment makes my career more interesting. Meeting people and learn from them and bring smile to their face is also something i enjoy most with my work.

Friends have been asking if I’ve stopped or took a break for photography because currently I’ve been sharing my music career ( side ) than photography but the truth is i took a break for while because the images we share on social media have / might have an impact to our lives as human beings.

For the next days i will be sharing unpublished images from Assignments, or Personal projects i’ve worked on.

This Photo were taken during the Assignment of Oxfam for their partners “ Cards from Africa “
