Who is this workshop for?
Everyone. Clown training is beneficial for anyone interested in performance. Learn how to connect with the audience and show your beauty. Individuals wanting to find out how they can be more interesting on stage or in real life may participate. Clowning is especially good for actors. Famous actors who have their works inspired by clown training include: Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush, Sacha Baron Cohen and Anthony Wong.
About the workshop:
Learn how to be present on stage and read the audience. The clown nose is the smallest known mask in the world, leaving the wearer extremely vulnerable but open to the audience. Participants are expected to break down their ego and embrace the self before being able to find their inner clown.
The teacher will share with participants exercises and training from the lineage of Jacques LeCoq and Philippe Gaulier. Rediscover the joy of play and theatre through the concepts of Le Jeu (The Game). Participants will also go through the Wind Dance training developed by Odin Theatre to help condition and engage the body.
Through the 6 sessions, participants will work towards discovering their own clown and put up a short showcase that will be open to friends and family. This workshop is limited to 12 people to ensure everyone gets sufficient one-on-one attention from the instructor.
Workshop Structure:
- Participants will go through Le Jeu games and exercises to get familiarised with clowning performative vocabularies.
- Participants will go through the Wind Dance, a physical exercise aimed to condition the body, mind and help the class gel together as an ensemble.
- Participants will be guided in making short clown performance pieces.
Worshop Objectives:
- Develop a lightness when on stage.
- Learn to embrace risk-taking and failure as part of the performance.
- Learn how to activate the mind and body to be present.
- Discover the performer's beauty.
About The Public Showcase:
Participants will be allowed to invite guests in the last session as part of an open class to view their works.
