Done!

Still super happy for having had the chance to DJ at Bulgeum for the second year in a row, I feel like it's time for me to hang up my TJ boots.

It's been a fun ride, from the Winter Tango Marathon in 2015 until now, and I have tons of people to thank (for starting it, keeping me company during the journey and let me end it on a very special, high note). I will do it privately, though.

See you everybody on the dancefloor, somewhere, at some point!

4ᵗʰ and last release of the 𝗣𝘂𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹, 𝗺𝗶𝗱 𝟰𝟬𝘀 series of Listening Guides for dancers: 𝗔𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼 (1944), composed by Pedro Laurenz and Pedro Maffia around 1927.

The 𝗯𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗲 structure (same as La cachila) is the simpler among the 4 songs of this "tanda": A1, B1, A2, B2 and A3 (the variación).

It is, like Adiós Bardi and the other pieces we analyzed so far, a 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 of Pugliese's instrumentals in the 40s:

▪ long and articulated phrases
▪ emphatic 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶 of bandoneons and violins for the main melodies
▪ heart rending countermelodies by the lead violin (sections A2 and B2)
▪ strong dynamics (alternation between 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲 (𝒇) and 𝗽𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 (𝒑))

and, again, a little bit of 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (in the second phrase of A2).

3ʳᵈ release of the 𝗣𝘂𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹, 𝗺𝗶𝗱 𝟰𝟬𝘀 series of Listening Guides for dancers: 𝗔𝗱𝗶𝗼́𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶 (1944), composed by Pugliese between 1936 and 1944.

The 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗲 structure (quite unusual for a piece composed well after the 20s) is very complex: A1, B1, A2, Bridge, C1 and A3 and the composition has it all.

It showcases the typical richness of Pugliese's mid 40s pieces: long and articulated phrases, emphatic 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶 of bandoneons and violins for the main melodies, syncopations, heart rending countermelody by the lead violin (A3), strong dynamics (alternation between 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲 (𝒇) and 𝗽𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 (𝒑)), moments of refined counterpoint and even percussions (briefly, at the end of the Bridge).

While awaiting to be allowed to dance again, I thought I'd spend some time and finally actualize an old project of mine: a series of listening guides for tango dancers.

Here you go, with the first release, about 1944 Pugliese's recording of his own, iconic, composition: 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗼 (1924).
